This issue had several good and very good stories, headlined by Roger Zelazny. Roger Zelazny - A Rose For Ecclesiastes - 5 stars - Roger Zelazny's first appearance in F&SF, with one of his best short stories. Very well written. Philip Winsor - Mama - 5 stars - A well written view of the advancing awareness (or gradually reduced awareness) of a young child becoming accustomed to his existence as a baby. It works. Isaac Asimov - Science: Welcome Stranger! - 4 stars - A discussion of the properties of This issue had several good and very good stories, headlined by Roger Zelazny. Isaac Asimov - Science: Welcome Stranger! - 4 stars - A discussion of the properties of the noble gases and why they don't react with other elements except in very rare circumstances. Lloyd Biggle, Jr. - Wings of Song - 4 stars - Antique collecting in the far future when the items which are very rare might be surprising. S. Dorman - Winged Victory - 4 stars - A fairly well written story about someone who is paranoid that he's being watched and followed. Then you find out who/what he is and that his fears are true. Ray Nelson - Eight O'Clock in the Morning - 5 stars - Waking someone up from hypnosis awakens an awareness of more than expected. A nice story. L. E. Jones - The Eyes of Phorkos - 4 stars - A beginning archaeologist, who is interested only in his own reputation and success, makes an important discovery. He destroys many other people until he finally succeeds in destroying himself. Grendel Briarton - Ferdinand Feghoot: LXVI - 3 stars - The build-up is OK, the pun is a little better.
