I liked the designs of Carol Doak's star blocks but was disappointed with these 12" blocks. There are only 2 that I might use. The book has good information on calculating the amount of fabric needed for a strip or for a quilt. It would also be good to study how to produce paper pieced patterns. This is a beautiful book people who love foundation pieced quilts. I originally got it from the library, but liked it so well, I ordered it. The arrangement and color choices of the quilts illustrated are really beautiful and they really are exceptional. Carol Doak is known for her paper piecing books and this one is a real winner. The only thing that could make it better would be a CD to copy blocks into any size rather than to have to graph them.

Carol included instructions for inexperienced quilters, patterns, and color example of each block and pictures of sample quilts and variations. I good book if you are interested in learning paper piecing and you want star-inspired quilt blocks. Paper piecing is great for creating exact points; thus the star-type blocks.

I missed the point of the book. Some formulaic patterns for those who lack the imagination.
Kristel –
A good intro to paper-piecing. There are some really nice blocks in this book, but I find many of them too busy to want a full quilt of them.
