My first thought when I received this book was that it’d be a great gift for Chris, a colleague at work. [Nothing better than a gift that costs nothing :)] But first, the review. So I read it at record speed, noting the following: From the title to the colors to the content, the book is touted as a book for guys. But a lot of the content could be relevant for women too. While I get the rationale behind a devotional just for men, especially in a book culture where there are a lot more books specifically for women than there are for men, I’m not a fan of segregating daily devotional material by gender. Just my very subjective preference :) That being said, if you’re a trivia buff looking for great stories with details about people and events, this book is perfect for you. The title is almost like God pleading, “Please, just give me one minute of your day.” How could anyone say no to that! This book is a great baby step for a man—or a woman— wanting to invest in their spiritual health. Having made these observations for my review, I presented the book to Chris. “Thanks,” he responded. “But does it come as a podcast?” “There’s a Kindle version,” I offered. “Hmm. I prefer listening to my devotions while driving to work.” [Note to publishers: While Chris is just one guy, he just might be representative of many men out there—Under a minute is great, but even better is being spoon fed an audible version ;) *sigh* MEN!]

This book is an excellent devotional for men, such a quick, easy read to get ones day started off right with such short, but thought provoking things that pack quite a punch and are sure to get you thinking. I was surprised how well put together it was and how well written it was. I loved how this book tried to help one get a vision for ones life, too often we do meander through life without doing the things are really meaningful and this book helps one get refocused. “Those who fail to plan plan to fail.” One of the ways in which a man can be very susceptible to failing is by not having a vision. Sometimes this happens due to changes that need to be addressed and sometimes it happens because a man is not intentional about having a vision. In his book, A Minute of Vision for Men, Roger Patterson gives one minute motivational readings for each day of the month to help men find motivation. Making sure that they are staying within a vision for their lives is vital “Those who fail to plan plan to fail.” One of the ways in which a man can be very susceptible to failing is by not having a vision. Sometimes this happens due to changes that need to be addressed and sometimes it happens because a man is not intentional about having a vision. In his book, A Minute of Vision for Men, Roger Patterson gives one minute motivational readings for each day of the month to help men find motivation. Making sure that they are staying within a vision for their lives is vital and each reading helps keep a man on focused. For example, it is presently the month of December as I write this and the focus on the motivational readings is the Christmas narrative. Patterson's goal is to get a man to think properly about Christmas and not be caught up in the commercialism and the angst of trying to get to places and parties and events, etc. Rather, he wants me to focus on the fact that God became man and enjoy and remember who the holiday season is about rather than what some have made it. I found the motivational readings for each day to be challenging but not so heavy as to be forgotten due to a level of reflection that is required. However, I also feel this could be a danger as it may allow some men to read it and think they're okay and not take time to reflect deeper. With that said, this would work really well with a Bible reading for a more in-depth devotional as a supplement to that and would, in my opinion, greatly help a man make sure his vision is proper and that being to focus on God and not on other circumstances. *I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
