"Dear Mum and Dad, The New York School for Performing Arts is fifty years old this year! Ancient or what? We're going to put on a big show to celebrate. I found out that it's our favourite teacher, Madame Swirler's birthday too, and she's EVEN OLDER than the school! She must've kept it a secret so that we could surprise her, but when I arranged an amazing traffic-halting flash mob to sing happy birthday to her, she was even grumpier than usual! Maybe I should have arranged a confetti explosion too? Anyway got to go, I'll have to think of an even better surprise. Love you more than cake, Louie xx"

A unicorn, who is studying at a performing arts school, auditions for a part in a play. I found this book very amusing in places but the basic concept was far too surreal / wacky for me.

Review from my 10 year old who devoured Louie Takes the Stage after running off with it as soon as she saw it peaking out of the packaging. I got into it straight away, it didn't take time to start loving from the first chapter I was already engrossed in the book. I had finished it within an hour of starting!!! I would recommend this to lots of people who enjoy fun, entertaining, fiction books. I love unicorns and I really liked the fact that the main character is a Unicorn and all he is trying to do is help the other students in succeeding. Louie is a wonderful character that everyone should love!!! It has lots of fun illustrations and has a real 'pick me up and read me' cover. I would definitely read more of these books! -------------------------- Well thank you Rachel Hamilton, my daughter is not easily won over but Louie made a place in her heart, that's for sure :)

I read this to my son who is almost 7 but he found it a bit tricky to follow some of the jokes. I had to explain bits to him. My neighbours daughter who is 8 borrowed this book and she said 'it was really good and had an interesting story.' I think this book would be better suited to children aged 8 and over. My 8 year old son really liked the book. He said he loved the book cover and found it made him want to read the book. He loved the illustrations and laughed out loud at the bits that went wrong. He especially enjoyed the incident in chapter 5. He found the story interesting and liked that it ended with a letter.

From my small person I really liked this book. I liked Miranda the best, Louie was a bit of a tag along to Arnie. I liked New York and the stage school too. I am 9 but I think the book is better for younger readers. We got a copy of this book from TBC in return for an honest review

Louie longs to have the starring role in one of his school’s play. When the New York School of Performing Arts gets a chance to perform on Broadway, Louie’s unusual audition lands him the understudy part, not the big rol. Until Arnie, the other unicorn, breaks his leg. Can Louie shine on stage? The illustrations are detailed and delightful. The plot is simple, but appropriate for an early chapter book. The characters are engaging and draw the reader into Louie’s world. Fans of unicorns and fanta Louie longs to have the starring role in one of his school’s play. In this second outing, Louie finally gets the chance to star in his performing arts school's show. But before that happens, the kind-hearted and lovable unicorn is given bad advice about his audition by Arnie, another unicorn who considers him a rival. Meanwhile, Miranda, his mermaid friend, is fed up with females always being rescued and lobbies for a more gender-friendly rendition of the play. The same humorous asides and misunderstandings featured in the first book in the series are here, and it's fun to see Louie triumph despite Arnie's machinations. Even the school principal Madame Swirler seems to have a soft spot for him. I predict more encores and larger parts for this sweet actor who finally gets a role on stage.

{My thoughts} – This book was as entertaining as the first in the series. Louie is thus sweet unicorn that dreams of being a star. Since he wants nothing more then to be a star he is attending a performing arts school in New York. He isn’t the only unicorn attending the school. There is also Arnie. Arnie is a bigshot and whenever Louie goes to him for help or advice he is always disregarded or given really bad advice. The really bad advice is what helps make these books entertaining. I also like how it is written and that is has nicely added illustrations to go along with the story.

This book was incredible because the author used magnificent exaggeration and brilliant hyperbole. The story is about a unicorn in New York and dreams about going on Broadway. At the end he completed his dream as the lead on Broadway because the person who was the lead injured him self and went to the hospital. So that is how Louie the unicorn accomplished his dream.

My 9 year-old and 7 year-old sons have both read this book and it was a hit! They both thought it was funny and they loved Louie. I couldn't get a word out of my 7 year-old until he turned the last page - always a sign of a good book :) My 9 year-old and 7 year-old sons have both read this book and it was a hit!
