A story of a kid's day on a field trip to a museum. Or what seems to be a range of different museums. The story was just okay. The artwork was maybe a little better than the script. Short, small book. Nonsensical, mostly, which some kids might like. He basically makes a mess of everything. I didn't think it was as funny as the title suggested it would be. Included in their collaborative work are other titles in this series of picture books/early fiction titles involving protagonist Henry and his larger-than-life, incredible diversions. Henry has so far, had some spectacular (and some might argue unbelievable!...) adventures during his summer break, while getting to school, and attempting to finish his homework. Now, we turn to the museum! In this latest adventure, the story begins with Henry's teacher asking how he found their class trip to the museum. Henry immediately dives in with letting his teacher know that it "wasn't exactly what he expected" as he was "charged by a triceratops" as soon as he set foot in the museum! From there, Henry (and his constant canine companion) experience one tremendous, funny, or bonkers experience to the next. Cali has a sharp and funny sense of humour that plays so well in his storytelling; Chaud's finely detailed, bright, eye-catching and funny illustrations capture Cali's stories so well. Cali and Chaud's series of stories featuring Henry are good fun and should appeal to readers who enjoy wacky reads or stories by authors like Jon Agee, Ole Könnecke, Gemma Merino or Margery Cuyler. Reluctant readers who enjoy funny reads and might find themselves scared off by heavier text in early readers or early chapter books- but don't want to necessarily read "picture books"- might find themselves reaching for A Funny Thing Happened at the Museum.. and other titles in this series. I received a copy of this title courtesy of Raincoast Books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and comments are my own.

The fourth of a series of books about hapless Henry and the excuses he delivers to his teacher. This time, he and his dog miss the bus to the museum (one is to presume a museum of natural history, however there are also works of art on display). Benjamin Chaud's detailed ink and watercolor artwork include many sight gags which add to the book's humor. While this book has its moments of garnering snickers, I felt as if it was not totally fresh and that I had been there, done that. It is a fun book with plenty chuckles for readers who pour over the art.

A boy gets separated from his class on a field trip to the museum and encounters some outlandish experiences as he tries to catch up to them. More fun than Night at the Museum. The detailed illustrations are amazing. This is such a fun read. I can't give this book enough praise. Kammisin Overdrive'i, et kas seal on mõnd toredat pildiraamatut, mida lugeda, ja leidsin ühe selle sarja oma, mida ma veel kohanud polnud. Benjamin Chaud' illustratsioonid on ikka viimase peal! Henry went on a field trip to a museum. His imagination runs wild. Oh he brought his sausage dog. I found it is the strangest thing. Basically he messed up the whole place and he was all by himself during his visit while his class marched on. Strange yes. Funny not so much.

A fantastic way to put yourself into the shoes of a child who can see all the wonder and possibility of a museum using their imagination.

Something happens to Henry when he's trying to get somewhere, and outlandish explanations are provided for whatever happens. When his teacher asks for his impressions of the museum that the class visited, he seems to have had more than his share of adventures, including dealing with secret stairwells, dinosaurs, and volcanoes. When he enters a secret room and straightens up a few things while adding his own unique touch, the result is unexpected, and fits the ending quite well. As his teacher suggests that he has the makings of an artist and he denies it, others are paying attention to what he's left behind. Many young readers will enjoy this one since it features a boy getting into all sorts of mischief on a field trip and getting away with it, but I liked the previous three titles dealing with what happened to the main character's homework, what happened on the way to school, and what happened during one extraordinary summer, but all four are filled with colorful illustrations and quite a lot of exaggeration--or maybe not.

Odd book about a boy who arrives late to his class field trip. Henry thinks he will able to catch up quickly to his group but many obstacles stand in his way - created by Henry. Why is this book odd? It doesn't fit in easily to a category. Few words. Picture book type illustrations with clues that young children will not understand. Henry is obviously an elementary student.
