Kirby Swallow has been brought up by her Grandfather and is feeling somewhat alone after his recent demise. When her near identical half sister, Frances (better known as Frankie) comes calling, battered and bruised asking for her help, Kirby will put her own life on the line to help her. Kirby is a hard working, considerate and lonely cop whilst Frankie is a spoilt, selfish brat with very loose morals but now seems genuinely scared and very concerned after the disappearance of her mother and being attacked herself. Kirby can’t resist and agrees to wear green contact lenses to hide her brown eyes - the only physical difference between the sisters - and to go undercover as Frankie on the isolated ranch where she lives. Trying to act like Frankie, wearing her ridiculously high heels and striving to uncover the truth is going to be a real challenge for Kirby. What will make it harder is the attitude of others on the ranch to Frankie - no one seems to like or trust her. With so many potential suspects, her aunt still missing and more mysteries to resolve life is taking a definite change for Kirby - and the attractive ranch manager, Seth Maguire, could just be one challenge too many for her to ignore! With family feuds, everyone in the household apparently hating Frankie, the ranch going downhill fast after all the cattle and most of the horses have been sold, nothing is as Kirby had assumed. Get ready to meet some great characters - human and animal! There are so many secrets, motives and conflicts abounding that this is an exciting read with so many twists and turns it will keep you guessing till near the end! This is a great romantic mystery to escape into and I have no hesitation in highly recommending it to lovers of this genre. Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read this in exchange for my honest review.

Kirby, adrift in grief and loneliness since the death of her grandfather, has found purpose again with the reappearance of her half-sister, Frankie. Frankie needs help and has turned to Kirby for it. See, not only are these two nearly identical, but Kirby is also a cop, which makes her perfect to help by pretending to be Frankie. It seems Frankie, one of the heirs to Shaw Valley Ranch, feels someone is out to get her, a theory that seems true after the disappearance of her Mom, Charleen. As if Ki Kirby, adrift in grief and loneliness since the death of her grandfather, has found purpose again with the reappearance of her half-sister, Frankie. As if Kirby, the complete opposite of Frankie, isn't already stressed about the acting job she has to do, now she's also lost upon meeting Seth and curious as to what his statements mean regarding Frankie and her being okay with what happened, or didn't happen, between them. Are Seth and Frankie an item? According to Frankie, Seth wants to hook up with her, even marry her to gain the ranch, but Frankie is unsure of her decision. Is she telling the truth or spinning a story to suit her own purposes? Seth, the ranch manager, has his own goals he's working towards. He's also beginning to wonder why Frankie is acting so out of character. Did he miss the breaking news about an invasion of the body snatchers happening? It seems to be the only explanation for what's going on. Frankie seems nice, helpful, and being around her suddenly feels different. Why does everyone at the ranch seem to watch Kirby's, as Frankie, every move? Has Frankie been completely truthful with Kirby? What are the secrets that everyone seems to be hiding? Is one of the staff after Frankie? Is it someone that views her as competition for Seth's affections? Or is it due to her place in the family? Will Kirby figure out what's truly going on before it's too late? Will Frankie's Mom, Charleen, be found safely? How long can she handle playing Frankie, and being subjected to everyone's views on Frankie's "too friendly" behavior? Can she trust Seth and tell him the truth? Or is he using her for his own gain? Who is behind everything that's going on? Is Frankie worthy of Kirby's sisterly love? Will Seth and Kirby get a chance at HEA? If you like a lot of mystery and romance tied together, then I recommend this book. As for my own personal preferences, while the blurb intrigued me, I just could not get into the book. Everyone's catty attitude toward "Frankie" got annoying. I did not care for Seth. He wasn't hero material to me. All he came off as was a horny guy out to bang any woman he could, or it seemed that just about every woman who came in contact with him either wanted, or in the case of the former housemaid, Angela, had already been with him. I can't even remember if he had actually done anything with the real Frankie or not. I truly hope not as I don't like it when a main character has been with a sibling, or any family member, of the other main character. It seemed like, without it specifically being said, that Seth is essentially a manwhore who only requires that his partner is breathing. For me, all of these mentions regarding all the females wanting, or previously having, him or his thoughts regarding sex, how badly he needs or wants it, and how he uses it as a distraction when necessary, just bogged down the story. I felt a lot of it was completely unnecessary for the story and it honestly made me dislike Seth. Instead of coming off hero-like, he essentially came off as a jerk. He had some redeeming qualities here and there, but overall, they didn't negate the cons I saw in him. I'm giving the book 3 stars because I felt the premise was interesting and the story does keep you guessing as to who the culprit is, but it just wasn't for me. I couldn't get into it and didn't find the romance between Seth and Kirby believable as it seemed liked she was just another in the long line of women he's been with. I wasn't at all invested in them as a couple and it wasn't until the ending of the book that I felt like he actually had true feelings for her, but by then, it was just too little too late for me. I understand how his past may have shaped the man he is now, but I view that as more of an excuse than as a reason. To be honest, due to my distaste for Seth, I started skimming the story. I do encourage you to give the book a try on your own, as it could just be me and everyone else will love the book. My personal feelings in no way take away from the author's talent nor her style, and I am open to trying her work again in the future, but this story just wasn't for me. As is the case with us bookworms, sometimes our tastes don't mesh with a story and this was one of those times. Also, please be aware this is book two in the series, but I believe it's okay to read them as a standalone as there didn't seem to be any character overlapping between the two books. **I received a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**

They cook up a plan for Kirby to take her place and catch a kidnapper. But things at the ranch are not what they seem! Hawt Damm! Stranger in my House is one of the best mystery, suspense romances I have read in a looooong time. I was reluctant to read it as it is the second in the series but I am so glad I didn't pass it up. There were so many twists and turns that I could not guess how the end would take place. Yet when the ending approached Miss Manning gave enough clues to help the reader solve it just as Kirby did. Blackmail, murder, lost mother, stolen goods, sexual tension, small town gossip, this novel seriously had it all! I loved all the characters except Seth. I mean he was a good guy but he whined a lot about the hand he was dealt. And after he pushes away his light (Kirby) does he see love can really happen to him. He constantly was hot and cold when he couldn't make up his mind about Kirby. And Kirby was great. She was not all that confident, prefers horses over fancy cars, enjoys a good old fashioned burger, and cares about everyone. She really is your girl next door type and a perfect match for Seth. I even liked Brittany and Miss Bea. Although this was light on romance the few scenes between Seth and Kirby were so full of heat that made you wish you had a cowboy of your own. I truly hope there will be more in this series!Great job Miss Manning! I was gifted a copy of this novel from the JeepDiva in exchange for an honest review.

When she arrives at the ranch things are different from what Frankie has explained. Everyone seems to hate her. It looks like the whole town could be a suspect. Frankie hasn't been good. In all the craziness that follows Seth is an ally. Even though Frankie warned her about him it seems that she cannot resist him after all. Soon she find herself falling for the sexy ranch manager who is too intelligent to keep buying her charade for long. She wonders what is to come out of all this mess.... I enjoyed reading this book. It is one of the best mystery novels I have read this year.

The ending had a twist that I did not see coming (for a couple of different reasons). That being said, I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys a good suspenseful romance. Review: I really liked that I kept guessing who was behind all the happenings and killings in the book. I hate plots being spoiled so I will try to give a good review without giving away everything. The book had a cast of quirky and not all that they seemed in the book. They are not being who they seem lead to that should they be trusted or not. I thought at points Kirby was being too kind, I know she is pretending to be her sister, but people were just plain mean to her and I would have given it right back. Seth is moody and sexy, and is bad and good for Kirby. I liked the tension and the will they? won't they? act on their attraction for each other. When they finally do act out on their feelings there is just the right amount of heat for the story. Also, I liked that Seth got personal stuff resolved in the story too. This is the second book in the series and other than being set in the same small Texas town I cannot see how it would hurt reading them out of order. I give kudos to the Author, she writes a good romantic mystery that I did not figure out until all was revealed at the end. 4Stars *I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

Another reason that I don't typically read mysteries is because they say that there is some romance involved but it really is only an emotionless hook-up between two characters. I'm so happy to say that this was definitely not the case with this story. There's quite a bit of getting-to-know-each-other and sexy times that really lets you connect with the characters and want a happy ending for them. I loved the way that this story was wrapped up. There's not any kind of feeling of loose ends or unresolved problems. Everything's finished just perfect enough to make it feel real. I would definitely read more by this author and have already recommended this book to someone.

With all the facts laid out whom will the finger point to or could it all be in Frankie’s mind? I really enjoyed the even pace book that had no trouble holding my attention. I know most will find this as delightful as I have. This is the first I have read by this author but it won’t be the last. ************************

Let's start with the cover. AMAZINGLY SEXY!!! Now, the story line. It was great! It was set up well and some of the characters played their part well. Miss Bea, Mr. Shaw, Susanna and Frankie were great! Kirby, Seth, Manny and Brittany were not so great. Kirby should have been smart. She's an officer of the law. She was extremely naive and I failed to see intelligence, especially where Frankie was concerned. The way she let others speak to or yell at her was just too much. Extremely degrading. The only thing I'll say about Seth is, WHAT COWBOY WEARS KHAKIS AND TOP SIDERS? No, just, NO! The story would have been awesome if the characters matched the story line. The last chapter was the best as all the characters behaved like normal human beings. The last chapter is the only place I saw any hint of a real romance throughout the entire book. I'm sorry if my review sounds harsh. I didn't mean it that way but I failed to see what others saw in this book. Received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

This book was a pleasant surprise for me; having recently read several "suspense/romance" books that fell incredibly short I didn't have high hopes for this book. All too often you can almost immediately figure out the "who done it" and why in these types of books, but this was left me guessing right up until the end. It wasn't until about 70% of the way through the book did I even entertain the idea of the villain actually having been the one who was behind everything. But even then, I struggled greatly to figure out the motive since it didn't add up. Then BAM! The author drops a bomb on us that suddenly has everything making sense. The added romance between Kirby and Seth was a nice balance to the mystery plaguing the ranch. I appreciated that the author didn't simply add the romance into the story, but truly made it part of the suspense and mystery. I liked that Seth came with his own troubles and wasn't the perfect hero that some authors try to portray the man in the stories to be. ** ARC received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review **

An excellent romantic suspense that had my attention from the very first page. Kirby is a great character and she's willing to do anything for her half sister. The only real family she has left. So going to her sister's ranch and posing as Frankie seems easy enough. While she may fool most of the people, ranch manager Seth Maguire knows something is most definitely different with Frankie. He's never had this intense attraction before and he means to get to the bottom of what's going on. While Kir An excellent romantic suspense that had my attention from the very first page. She needs to find out who is trying to hurt Frankie. There seems to be more secrets and strange goings on at the ranch than there are horses. This one is full of twists and turns as the story progresses. Definitely an exciting read and one I would highly recommend.

Some romance, mystery and suspense. Kirby pretends to be her half sister Frankie to help solve the disappearance of Frankie's mother and who is trying to stop them from inheriting a ranch. When she arrives at the ranch, she meets Seth who seems to realize there's something not quite right about "Frankie". With all of the animosity that Frankie has garnered at the ranch, Kirby has a hard time trying to use her police skills to track down the people involved in Charlene's disappearance. I had a hard time believing that Kirby would be that naive to not suspect the actual culprit in this one. But I did enjoy all of the twists and surprises that would pop up. It was a sweet suspense story and I would definitely recommend it if someone likes some light mystery and romance. Quite enjoyable.

This was a fun, intense read! I'm not one for stories of deception, so Kirby acting as Frankie should have turned me away from the book, but it was done extremely well and the reason was justified for the reader. I did, though, feel a bit lost at the beginning -- it felt like we were starting a book as a continuation of another story. I enjoyed Seth's character and his reactions to Kirby, although at times I didn't get the strong alpha male vibe from him. I wanted him to fight just a little bit This was a fun, intense read! I wanted him to fight just a little bit more, and show us some of that testosterone he had. Some of the lead-ins for the whodunit portion didn't necessarily feel organic, but between the intensity of the beginning and the intensity -- romantically and in the suspenseful aspect -- I enjoyed this story. *ARC received in exchange for an honest review

She has to tread lightly though there are some who will not be fooled one of them being the male hunk in this named Seth. Does not stop him though and with the both of them together someone just might get it. That is though that Kirby doesn't get it first. Like I have mentioned I am impressed with the ability of this author and the mystery that keeps you guessing. I also like how she caps it off too.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. A wonderfully done romantic mystery, Stranger in my House by Mari Manning is Book 2 of the A Murder in Texas series. The author has put together great characters, a captivating storyline and a surprise twist ending that you won’t see coming. My only issue was some of the reactions of the characters; they didn’t always fall in line in a convincing way and at times even conflicted in how they should have reacted. Stranger in my House was a great romantic suspense read. There was tension, action, suspense and romance. I enjoyed the read, the characters were intriguing, and added flair to the story. Miss Bea and cousin Eenie were interesting and suspicious, and the other characters were all suspects at one point or another. I loved how Seth grew throughout the story. He was so closed off and afraid to love until Kirby showed him what it meant to find your soulmate. I loved Kirby's caring side, but at times Stranger in my House was a great romantic suspense read. LOVED this book! Kirby, a police officer, assumes her sister's identity to figure out what happened to her mother. As soon as Kirby arrives, she is treated with disdain, has her car keys taken away, and has her activities closing monitored. This is a quickly moving tale that romantic suspense fans will love. I never saw the villain coming - it kept me guessing until the very end. Add in a very sexy ranch manager and this story is hot! This is a must read for fans of the genre. This was a very good read. It's not often that a romantic suspense keeps you so enthralled about both sides of the story (romance & suspense). Kirby's half-sister Frankie is all she has left in the world. So when Frankie asks for help, she drops everything and rushes to Texas. There, she realises that the enemies she was taught to fear might actually be her greatest allies. Thank you, NetGalley & Entangled Publishing, for the ARC. This was a very good read. I got mixed feeling about this book. At first, the thrill of finding who did what will get you revved up. Then, when bad things started happening, I wanted it to be this one character! So much, that I started hating that person! But then, things started to unfold, and it all made sense! I like how this book got me so riled up and so hooked. I enjoyed berating and cursing and shouting at it! I was gifted a copy for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was intriguing and kept me interested the entire time I read. It was a well-written romantic mystery. It definitely had an ending that I didn't see coming as well. While it did not often feel realistic, it was enjoyable and entertaining and a great read. I can't wait to read more from this author.
