Entertaining It was one of those that kept having far too many coincidences that were "too good to be true" for me. Entertaining It was one of those that kept having far too many coincidences that were "too good to be true" for me.

EVEN THE CIA HIRES CONTRACTORS I was given an advance copy of this book by the author in exchange for a honest review. In Mr. Becker's fifth Mac Travis book, Wood's Harbor, we met CIA analyst Alicia Phon. In the time since she talked a self-effacing Senior CIA operative into letting her do some field work, where she ended up meeting Mac Travis and Alan Trufante, she has become an independent contractor for the CIA with an impetuous playboy wannabe, Mako, as her partner. Mako does the leg work while Alicia does the computer analysis and delves into various system back doors, grabs remote control of anything connected to a network, and TRIES to keep her partner alive and somewhat on the straight and narrow. When an assignment at Lloyd's of London goes awry, the CIA takes the contract back from Alicia and Mako, and gives it to a "retired" CIA operative that now does contracts for them, John Storm. Mako had retrieved some sensitive information from the Lloyd's of London computer system, but when attempting to escape after being caught trying to exit the Lloyd's office, the USB drive on which the information was placed dropped out of Mako's pocket into the Thames River. From London, the quest for the encrypted information moves into the Eastern Caribbean aboard a mega-wealthy Iranian's mega-yacht and involves a lethal Chinese spy and her equally lethal daughter. This is another exciting adventure by a great writer who has a penchant for writing great story lines and believable, rascally characters.

Storm Rising is a real action mystery. Steven Becker is really in the zone on his mystery series. This is action non stop and I truly enjoyed reading it. I could not stop reading until I was finished. The majority of the setting is on the ocean and it is a his suspense read. The character are very good and well fleshed out so you know who is saying what just by their name. The writing by Steven is getting better and better. If you want to binge read then this one is a good one for that.

The novel starts slowly, almost like a romance, as Mako makes clear he's a "bad boy" player. Quickly the action heats up and suddenly one is in the middle of a Bruce Willis movie. The deeper I got into the plot the faster I read, trying to keep up with the action. Well developed story line and interesting characters make me happy that this is but the start of a new series. Can't wait to see what these folks get up to next! The novel starts slowly, almost like a romance, as Mako makes clear he's a "bad boy" player. "A Swift Moving Hunt For The Bad Guys!" This action-packed novel, the first of a new series, is very different from Becker's previous novels. It has some quirky people, often making mistakes. It is humorous, but I haven't been captivated. There's espionage and adventure over land and on the sea. Mako and John Storm are prime characters. It was okay for the most part. Delightfully impressed with Steven Becker’s amazing knowledge of sailing and the islands, he writes an intriguing story that’s a pretty good mix of good spy craft, old fashioned womanizing and down right fun. I think you will enjoy its twists and turns.

I like Mako. Are John Storm and Mail going to be semi a partners or what? Decent storyline and well written with no literary mistakes to detract from the story. Plan to read more.

High-Tech Becker!! A great read Steven Becker takes his new series, at least I hope there are more, in a new direction. Set in the present Storm Rising takes off like a rocket. You are quickly embroiled in a fast moving plot that runs from London to the Carribean. Becker adds a new dimension to his usual twists and turns with an eye in the sky handler trying to keep her very impulsive partner on the case. Everytime you think you have a handle where the plot is going a new surprise pops up. As the High-Tech Becker!! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast paced adventure.

This is a fairly short, but interesting, easy to read story with some present day connotations. An encryption program is stolen, presumably by an Iranian with delusions about being the next Shah of Persia. The contractors, working for the CIA to recover the program, are a motley crew, making the story read like a Maxwell Smart guest appearance on Mission Impossible. There are a couple of sub-plots, but describing them could be classified as spoilers.

A different type of spy thriller. The CIA has hired contractors. Mako who wants to redeem himself, will do the legwork. While Alicia is a whizz at the computer. Knowing back doors to find the file.Good action to the end.

Not bad This was a decent spy book, not the best but definitely not the worst. It has a good story that's mostly believable, it was well written and flowed nicely with nothing pulling you out of the story. I did receive my copy for free in exchange for an honest review. Good spying Lots of action. Good guys save the world. I've read several books written by this author and liked them all. Not literary genius, just good action packed fun.
