I have read a lot of writing craft books and occasionally an unexpected book comes along, that you buy on a whim, which gives you that light bulb 'a ha' moment. Tick Tock Plot is one of those books. It arrived at exactly the right time for me and I spent most of the read nodding and slapping my own forehead that its lesson could be so simple but also so elusive. I could have so easily written another seven books, and maybe, after any one of them, may have stumble across this approach (but I doub I have read a lot of writing craft books and occasionally an unexpected book comes along, that you buy on a whim, which gives you that light bulb 'a ha' moment. I could have so easily written another seven books, and maybe, after any one of them, may have stumble across this approach (but I doubt it). I can tell its a really good craft book because a little part of me wants to not tell anyone it exists. The part that recognizes that after reading Tick Tock Plot, many people's writing will improve. Thankfully I come from the place that more great writers will be beneficial to us all, even other writers. So, if you want to improve your novel writing, get this book. 99% of me hopes you will and the little selfish demonic part, we'll call it the 1%, hopes you breeze on by and never bother to read it at all. Thank you Jacqueline.

I've read Jacqueline's Lumiere and really enjoyed it. So when I heard she had published this on a podcast interview she did, I thought it sounded like an interesting craft book for writers. Sadly, it read like every chapter was explaining why the method she was teaching she had was great, and very little information about it in actually. A unique twist on plotting Many authors struggle with plotting. Many plotting systems outline the identical 3-act structure. This one is no different, yet it is. Ms. Garlick uses the clock as the framework for bring the structure of a story full circle. While there are many parallels with other plotting systems, this one is worth checking out if youre still struggling with getting your story ideas to come together.

A great breakdown of how plots fit together.

Writers will learn how to plot a tightly knitted story in Jacqueline Garlick’s Tick-Tock Plot: How to Speed-Write the Next Blockbuster eBook. Garlick has written down what works best for her books based on what she learned by other writers. She has taken the ideas of beats and created a clothesline of plots, which she then puts around a clock. As the time ticks down, the intensity of the plot increases for the characters. This book has helped me plot out several of my most recent books. This book has helped me plot out several of my most recent books. I can’t guarantee they’ll be bestsellers or even blockbuster worthy, but Garlick’s instructions aided me to plot with more focus. For me, the only downside of this book was the late night infomercial beginning which took about a third of the book to read before we get to learn about the plotting techniques. For the plotters out there, Tick-Tock Plot by Jacqueline Garlick is a must read.
