3 Best Friend's Girl Stars *Mild Spoilers* Resurrection River, the second book in the Men Of Mercy Series, was an okay read for me. I really expected to love it more then the first book, but one thing really ruined my enjoyment of reading this book. That would be the heroine Amy. Lord in heaven did she drive me crazy. I really expected to love it more then the first book, but one thing really ruined my enjoyment of reading this book. That would be the heroine Amy. Lord in heaven did she drive me crazy. The plot was good. Tons of suspense, and a plot twist that I never saw coming. A twist so big, I was truly shocked, and that doesn't happen much to me. I called my husband and was like OMG (I'm always telling him about the books I am reading) because I was so shocked I had to share it with someone. I loved the Hero Ranger. Absolutely adored him. Ranger was the sweetest, most understanding, romantic, strong, and sexy hero. He was like perfect! I do wish there would have been a little more detail on Ranger and Amy's past relationship. The book says they dated in high school, but I feel like important parts of their relationship are missing from the book. That is just a small thing and I could totally over look that, but what I couldn't over look was my hate for Amy. OMG I'm gonna rant a little here..... Amy, she is one of those fictional characters that have me yelling at my kindle like a crazy person, cussing and threatening bodily harm . Amy had no backbone, none ,zero, zip, zilch, nada. She was a huge coward, and that is one of my biggest pet peeves (next to cheating) that is a total killjoy when I am reading. She let her ex mother n law Mavis (her husband Shane you find out is dead in book one) treat her like shit, like total shit. Mavis tells her how she is the reason her son died, that she is a slut, a hussy, that her baby granddaughter isn't even really her son's because Amy such a slut. OMG and she just takes it. Lets that woman walk all over her and treat her like trash(which she also calls her many times). "You little hussy. I don't need your smart mouth. You can go to the cemetery by yourself. I'm sick and tired of wasting my time on a piece of trash like you." -Mavis to Amy "It's your fault he joined the military. It's your fault my son is dead."-Mavis to Amy Top that off with the fact that Amy was wishy washy with Ranger pushing him away and being a big bitch to him at times and I just wanted to shake the shit outta her! I can't think of one thing I like about her, not one. I felt bad for Ranger. I can't tell you how many times they kissed, made love, or he told her he loved her, and wanted forever, and she would push him away, tell him to leave, and that she can't do this. Ripped his heart out all because she was a chicken that was too scared of Mavis talking trash on her and what people would think. Really? Some of the things she said to Ranger were so hateful that if I was him I would have walked away and found someone better. "I can't. Please, Ranger. I can't. Why are you doing this to me?" "Because, you're worth fighting for. Every damn day for the rest of my life."-Amy and Ranger "All because you are too stubborn to let me in." Her own anger rose, but she forced it down. Amy knew it deep in her heart. "You're right. I am afraid. I'm afraid of what people will say when they find out about us. I'm afraid of what Mavis will try to do when she finds out."-Ranger and Amy "I'm ruined. You ruined everything." Ranger rocked back on his heels in shock. He'd been expecting her to cry, to worry, to need him to calm her. "What? What are you saying?" Ranger reached for her, but she yanked back out of his reach. "This is a mistake." "No, it's not. We are not a mistake. Last night was the best night of my life." Ranger struggled to hold on to her, to find the right words. Amy flinched. "I can't do this. I thought I could, but I was wrong. Mavis will tell everyone that I betrayed my husband."-Amy and Ranger Amy pushed him away so much that I didn't want them to be together. I didn't feel the love and I wanted him to tell her to kiss off. Instead he pretty much begs the whole book for her to give them a chance. I am all for a man knowing what he wants and fighting for it. That is sexy, but she was so cold and mean it was like she turned this sexy strong man into a love sick puppy begging for some time. "I know the chemistry between us is weird. Scary. But dammit it's real and it's here and now. You're just flying through the clouds because you don't want to see what's on the ground right in front of you." "The only thing I feel is annoyance. Are you so desperate that you have to chase after what you can't have? You dumped me first, remember?"- Ranger and Amy "Dammit Amy Ann, I've never loved another woman in my entire life. It's always been you. Always." -Ranger to Amy "Your temper might scare off a weaker man, but not me. Because deep down, I know you want me to stay. I know you've got some fucked up reason to tell yourself why you can't let me, but you want me too."-Ranger to Amy "I'm asking you to give us a chance. I'm here, right in front of you and I love you."-Ranger to Amy "You will regret this, Amy. Don't let her win." "I can't fight this." "You're too scared to fight. Stand up for yourself. For your family. For what you want." -Ranger and Amy Ranger was such a great and sweet guy he could do so much better. Even with me hating Amy as much as I did, and God knows I did, Ranger, the story and all the other characters saved this book for me. I really liked getting to see Hunter and Evie again, and there are few others I would like to get their own books like bo and Merc. Even though I didn't love this book, I like Lindsay Cross's writing style and plan on reading more of her books. http://jessicasoverthetopbookobsessio...

Amy is determined to do it on her own, but when one of her workers (and herself) is threatened by a local gang member, Ranger's patience is gone. I wish I had read the first book in the Men of Mercy (Redemption River) series before I read Resurrection River. I somewhat felt that I was missing some of the back story between Amy and Ranger. I don't know if more was explained in book 1 or just left out all together. That being said I really really liked this book. Enjoyed these character's and look forward to reading more about them. **I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.** Rating: 4 out of 5

Resurrection River focuses on Ranger, the brother of the hero from book one, Hunter. The relationship between Ranger and Amy started long before this book, but somewhere along the line it got messed up. That didn't stop the two from having feelings for each other, although Amy's marriage to Ranger's best friend does keep them from acting on those feelings...at least until he dies. Ranger had to deliver the news of his friend's death, and steps up to take care of Amy and her baby. Amy wants to be with Ranger, but feels guilt. The two clash frequently over Amy's doubts, but when dangerous things begin to happen surrounding her, Ranger is determined not to ever leave her side regardless of what she wants or who else wants her. I loved this story just as much as book one, maybe even more. Ranger was totally swoon worthy, and Amy was spunky and determined. When this couple gets hot and bothered, serious sparks fly. I love them and the other men from Ranger's team. I can't wait to see who gets the next story! I'm hoping it's Merc! I received an early copy for review from the author.

She watched as the bloodsucking monsters, better known as “The National News,” splashed the video of her husband, on his knees at the feet of Afghan terrorists, a black bag over his head, take a bullet to the back of his head. Thanks, Army, for not even letting her know her husband was captured. No body to bury. Nothing but pain, and emptiness, and horrific loneliness, as everyone around her makes sympathetic noises. But nobody is going to pay her bills. So, to keep her farm, and to raise the child her husband never even knew he had, she goes back to crop dusting. An ancient plane, an illegal immigrant farmhand and his son, and her daughter are the only things Amy has left. Well, and the completely vicious, psychotic mother-in-law from hell who is determined to make sure that Amy and her daughter suffer because her ‘oh-so-special’ son never came back from the war. Oh, and a whole flock of circling scavengers, better known as “the press,” camping on her lawn, determined to feed off her pain and grief. Determined to give her child a good life, eight months later she is doing her best, keeping her ancient plane in the air on a wish and a prayer, bubble gum and baling wire. Her life is OK. But all that changes in a single day when the past rears up to punch her in the face. One of her husband’s old Army buddies is back in town. And that isn’t all – oh, no. For there is a Mexican Cartel boss sniffing around Amy, her farmhand, and his son. Suddenly, Amy and her tiny family are surrounded by danger. She needs help, but does she dare trust Ranger James and his team to protect them? Or is there no safe place to hide from the monsters in the dark? On the surface Resurrection River is a romantic suspense novel on a level with all the other “Big strong military dude comes along to save the little woman and they all live happily ever after” novels on the market today. Let’s face it – soldiers are sexy, right? But there is a lot more here as well. Lindsay Cross’s work (this is the second in the “Men of Mercy” series) touches on troubles we are all much too familiar with. Drug cartels, warlords, women and children being sold into sex slavery, terrorism and the horrors of PTSD. It is a mad, bad, ugly world out there, and Cross weaves all these themes through her book. We all need a light read sometimes, and ‘sexy soldier’ is a common trope, yes. But this is more than that, and I am glad it is. We get the ‘fun’ stuff. But along with it, you get a big dose of the serious as well, and that was a treat. What killed it for me, and dropped it two whole stars, is how BADLY this book needs an Editor! The authors gives kudos to her '"Beta Readers" but they did a Horrible job. The book is filled with so many problems, at times I found it hard to translate what the writer was trying to say, and the whole mess was truly disappointing from that angle.

Problems are abound for this couple as they get closer what with the search still going on for the weapons from book 1 and the a gang causing Amy's worker Pedro trouble. I thought this book was ace well written and full of action and suspense full of hot alpha males and women who get them and become stronger together than apart , and you feel the closeness the men have they have each other's back and that's good to see. So over all if you want a good read that keeps you gripped you can't go wrong with this book it's a keeper.

I confused this with another author with the last name Cross. My bad and if I wasn't try to review it for you all, these would likely be a DNF.  I sadly recommend them to no one. There are some reasons for this. The characters, which are of the utmost importance to me, were flat. It felt like they had one thought, one emotion, and no complexity. They were cliche; the plot was also sort of ridiculous. The bad people are really evil, no redeeming qualities at all.  The good guys have guilt over things which aren't their fault and they finally see the light. UGH. Both books had essentially the same plot / troupe. Each book features one of two brothers. They are military special forces from a smallish town in Mississippi. Their team comes back to the small town to investigate some terrorist type stuff. In Redemption River, Hunter James reconnects with his high school sweetheart and she is always on his mind. In Resurrection River, Ranger James claims his high school sweetheart as his own. For military special forces, they don't seem too bright, too well trained or especially well prepared or with decent intel. The action does not seem well described or believable. The dialogue between characters, including the sex scenes, doesn't seem very realistic either. The couples didn't really give me the feels. Since they already had a past relationship, they jumped into the new one right away with no development. So with no information on the history or connection, it feels like insta-love. I hoped for some bromance or at least a better working relationship between the guys on the team. Yes, some details are different in each book. Although the woman in each book gets the crap beaten out of her by the bad guys. The purpose of Thrifty Thursday is to pick a book which was free (at some point). Kindle freebie on December 29, 2015  (currently $3.99 as of writing this post) Overall rating 4.09 with 401 ratings and 105 reviews [su_spacer] Resurrection River did not improve the series for me. I wished I could just stop reading. In fact, it took almost a week since I kept reading something else. It may be different for you, but it did not work for me.

But that’s only the beginning of things; the roots of the story extend past this book and without prior knowledge of the first one it can be a daunting task to wade through the details of what has already previously gone on before, and the accumulative effort of trying to play catch up with the convoluted happenings in this one proved a little much. There are some awkward phrases and sentences of description that “caricaturise" the characters but for most part, I spent a lot of time suffering whiplash from Amy’s alternating bouts of self-castigation and rallying herself, while wondering what made Ranger James bravely (and somewhat unbelievably) plunge into the fast-flowing river of commitment. Having had the UST break so early in the story was also personally quite a deflating remainder of a read for me; all that was left it seemed, was for Ranger to persuade Amy - amidst the gunfights and cartel business - that he’s a good bet to take on a blended family and make things work. I’m not entirely sure what to make of this book to be honest, having found ‘Resurrection River' unevenly punctuated by moments of sustained and solid storytelling, engaging at some parts, but confusing and ridiculous at others. There’s action aplenty, steamy scenes and all the ingredients needed for a good romantic suspense book, even if it all seems like a jigsaw puzzle that is taking a lot more trouble to mentally assemble than I can take. There is this constant feeling of being thrust straight into action without context - which I suspect comes from the previous book which I hadn’t read at all. The more I dug into the story, the more apparent it seemed that I was missing vital pieces of information that I never really quite understood or fully grasped. (or maybe it’s just me and my own dimness speaking out of my arse here) *ARC by netgalley (and I’m ever grateful, mind)

I wish there would have been more fill ins of Ranger and Amy's past. They were high school sweethearts and ripped apart by a misunderstanding. The way I saw Amy was never with Ranger before Shane(her late hubby). That kind of bothered me as Ranger and Amy were good and second chance romances can be a good experience. The fact that there was no past intimacy made it flat. I like to see the couple and know they were meant for each other. There are no flash backs or memories that tell you if they were but there was no definite indication that Shane was her first either. The action and twists were cool and there were parts I thought I'd figured out how things would unfold but was wrong. The love scenes are graphic with a more open approach. All and all I'm sure we'll see more from the men and hopefully get a better idea of how Ranger, Amy and their new family adjusts. Enjoy

It was a real emotional beginning but thank goodness for a sexy man such as Ranger. I loved how much he cared about Rachel and how much he helped her get through her grief and embrace a new relationship. Resurrection River also had some superb suspense action going on. It was high in action, high in chemistry, and high in romance. I liked both Rachel and Ranger. The chemistry is incredibly strong between these two but you can definitely see that Rachel is still fighting with her grief. But the fact that it doesn't deter Ranger much because he cares about her and understands where her pain is coming from, was pretty damn awesome to witness. My emotions were all over the place with this book. I cried, I sighed, and I was happy. Plus with the danger lurking nearby, I was constantly in a state of nervousness, wondering what was going to happen next. I LOVED IT! Such a great story deserves recognition. Resurrection River got an AMAZING FIVE SHOOTING STARS! This book took my breath away and had me biting my nails at the same time. Wonderfully written! I will be keeping this author and series on my, "Must Have" list for now on.

Hmm, Where to start. Resurrection River, was given to me for an honest review. Pretty much everything about this story really annoyed me! A weak female lead, with no back bone. With two different not so great twists. This was book two in the long series, we meet both characters in the first book, so I would recommend reading that one first. I really liked Ranger, he was understanding and sweet, a strong sexy hero. Then we have Amy she is a hot mess. Her husband died, in the first book I I'm under stand that. But seriously she wasn’t kick as strong! She let people treat her badly and took it. Amy had no backbone, she just annoyed me. They had some back history from high school tho it didn’t really get into that much, but I felt something was missing. Their chemistry to me was not that great. Her always pushing him away, being a cow at times and I just couldn’t get into her. Ranger and Amy have a lot against them, can they make it? 2.5 Stars

They both struggle to keep there feelings under wraps because of what happened to Shane. They both feel guilty for what they are feeling and it feels like they are betraying him. This story was fantastic. There is a twist in story that knocks you on your ass. The action and suspence at the end of this book was mind blowing and gutting at the same time. The description of how the character's were feeling and how it was described made you feel like you were in the scene. This is a wonderful series and I look forward to the next story.

Star crossed lovers, survivors guilt, resurrected love affairs (and bad guys!) and sweet, adorable children - this has something for everyone to love and hate! Amy may have survived her husbands death but she feels constant guilt and having the MIL from hell does not help. It is people like her who put me off organised religion!!! With her guilt intermingled with her continued desire for her husbands best friend, and her ex, Ranger, she really is in a tizz. Everything about this book pissed me off. A weak female lead. A resurrection we all saw coming with 2 terrible plot twists. Everyone having a bad feeling about the same thing, but letting the people do this same thing that of course leads to people being beaten and almost killed. Spelling errors galore. I'd pass on this one. Everything about this book pissed me off. A weak female lead. A resurrection we all saw coming with 2 terrible plot twists. Great book, great series I had read the first book in the series and was anxious to get my hands on the next book. It has a great cast of characters, and an amazing plot with twists I wasn't expecting.
