The eighth book in the popular Miss Fortune Mystery series by Jana Deleon. Fortune is nursing a broken heart and learns she is not the only one. Someone is taking advantage of the lonely single women of Sinful, Louisiana and scamming them out of their money. So naturally, our ladies on once again on the case. Good addition to the series. I wonder how long this series is going to be. I hope the author can continue putting forth the same humor and zaniness that this and the past books have had. I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first books in the series. There were a couple of chortles but nothing that elicited a belly laugh. My expectations were dashed. I can't even add this to my humour shelf. The series seems to have taken a more serious tone now that she's been found out as a CIA assassin. If that's the case, I'm less forgiving of the fact that Fortune has got to be the worst operative and should be dead by now. Fortune Hunter by Jana Deleon is the 8th book in the Miss Fortune mystery series. An internet swindler has targeted the women in Sinful and Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie set off to find the swindler but when their friend is murdered, they are pulled into another murder investigation. It's official - I love this series. Great characters. Intelligent plots. Just plain fun. Only downside is all the food they talk about. I can't decide if I need to make a pecan pie, a chocolate praline bundt cake or banana pudding. It's official - I love this series. Great characters. Intelligent plots. Just plain fun. I absolutely love this series. I love the friendship and camaraderie as much as the shenanigans Swamp Team 3 gets into. As a writer, I really enjoy the pacing in both the individual books and the overarching storyline. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but Fortune had a big “aha moment” that made my romance-loving heart happy. I immediately downloaded the next audiobook.

I was so sad at the end of the last book. Carter found out that Fortune was a CIA agent hiding in Sinful, LA from a real nasty baddie, Ahmed. He was not amused, to day the least. He was really looking for Sandy-Sue Morrow, librarian and former beauty queen, not Fortune Redding, CIA assassin. So, he broke things off and broke her heart too. This left Fortune doing a lot of soul searching about what she really wanted for her life. When Fortune, Gertie and Ida Belle find out that several of the older, single women in Sinful had fallen prey to a "catfisher", they just know that they need to "help" with the case. Mr. Slime trolls facebook to find his victims, but something about the women he selects just seems . . . kinda personal. When a victim is murdered, Swamp Team 3 figure that the victim figured out who he really was. Even with Deputy Carter LeBlanc warning them to stay away from his case, the girls just can't leave it alone.

Fortune Hunter by Jana Deleon was another fun ride with Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie as they try to track down a catfisher who is targeting lonely women in Sinful. This one didn't have quite as much humor as the previous books; but Fortune is doing a lot of thinking about her future in this one, so I didn't expect it in this one. I actually enjoyed Fortune's introspection because it felt like I got to know her better in this one that I had in the previous books. After the way things ended between Fortune and Deputy Carter LeBlanc in the last book of the series, I was kind of reluctant to start this one. Given the turn in their relationship I found this one kind of depressing - at least until the end - the way it ended was encouraging on that front! It didn't seem this one had as many funny parts. Usually, there's at least one or two scenes where I'm doubled over laughing so hard I'm crying and having trouble catching my breath. This book was good but it is my least favorite of the series so far. Fortune Hunter is book 8 in the Miss Fortune Mystery series. This series is set in Sinful, Louisiana, USA and follows Fortune, who is a CIA assassin in hiding, and old ladies Gertie and Ida Belle, who are lifelong Sinful residents and ex-spy war veterans, as they help solve a string of various crimes and murders. Although this book wasn't as funny as the others, the entire series is full of humor. I stumbled across these books This book was good but it is my least favorite of the series so far. Although this book wasn't as funny as the others, the entire series is full of humor. I stumbled across these books when I decided to check out a new-to-me genre called Cozy Mysteries and someone recommended this series. Once I listened to the first book, I couldn't stop. I have been listening to all of the books back to back. This is the first one where I didn't feel as though I couldn't turn it off. It wasn't quite as captivating for me. In Fortune Hunter, a catfish has set their sights on ladies of Sinful. This person is pretending to be someone online and entering a fake relationship with these women so that they can get money out of them. Plus there is a murder to solve that takes precedence. Fortune and Carter are still dealing with the aftermath of Carter learning Fortune's secret. I recommend this series and suggest that you read each book in order as it builds upon the prior story and makes everything that much more entertaining and enjoyable. If you like your books with a nice dose of humor, this is the series for you. I have found myself laughing out loud too many times to count. The same woman narrates all of the books in this series. She does a really good job.

I find it strange that I'm reading two amusing mystery series about women in the CIA who have to hide out in small town America because someone is after them. Who'd have thought? This might be the better series, as it's slightly more believable, if I can use that word for these books. They're not meant to be taken seriously, but I really enjoy the bayou setting, odd happenings and most especially the two very smart, capable and entertaining old ladies who help our MC out. Another hilarious book by Jana Deleon and another interesting case for our beloved Swamp Team 3. A great read! I would love to tell you about all the hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud and make me grin thinking about them even days later, but I really want you to enjoy them yourself without being spoilered! I am devastated that the series is still ongoing, I thought this series would provide some quick and light reading and I didn't know that the eighth book isn't the last one. Catfishers beware! Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie are on the case, so Catfishers (and not the kind using a fishing line) beware! When those three are involved, one never knows what will happen. Although there are plenty of hijinks, this book takes a more serious tone as Fortune confronts her future. Will she remain with the CIA or plant roots in Sinful? There is much to ponder as the usual murder and mayhem ensue. A nice change of pace, and I love seeing the characters grow.

This may really be the last book in the series. A quieter, less raucus tone, less of the over-the-top antics found in earlier books...seems like the author is ready to be done. Enjoyable read overall. I like this character, and it's nice to see characters develop, grow; I think that is harder to write, and maybe even harder to sell. so. good bye to Fortune...and good luck. Dear fellow readers of the Mis Fortune Mystery series, I suspect if like me you’ve been reading this series in part to see how the romance between Fortune and Deputy LeBlanc plays out, we’re going to be disappointed if we’re secretly hoping for a happily ever after. This isn’t a romance series after all it’s a mystery series about three exceptional independent women. I can’t say the author has been misleading us. Like a good mystery all the clues have been there, with a few red herrings. How man Dear fellow readers of the Mis Fortune Mystery series, I suspect if like me you’ve been reading this series in part to see how the romance between Fortune and Deputy LeBlanc plays out, we’re going to be disappointed if we’re secretly hoping for a happily ever after. This isn’t a romance series after all it’s a mystery series about three exceptional independent women. I can’t say the author has been misleading us. Like a good mystery all the clues have been there, with a few red herrings. How many times has Fortune told us she can’t imagine what it would be like to be married, to have to account for another person’s feelings all the time. To spend every day with them. How many times have we been told how much Fortune is like a younger Ida Belle who has refused great guy Walter’s proposals of marriage her entire life. At the close of the last book Hurricane Force, Fortune tells Carter talking about why she does what she does, “Now I do it because I love it. I’m not made for a regular life. Maybe its because of my father. Maybe its because I’ve been doing it for so long. But none of that matters now. The bottom line is that’s who I am. I need the work, the thrill, the excitement, the challenge.” In this book Fortune Hunters, in Chapter 8 after she tells Carter off, she and Ida Belle have a heart to heart and Ida Belle tells her, “I believe that women like us aren’t made like other people. Gertie for all of her common domestic pursuits like knitting or baking still doesn’t have that average manner of thinking that drives most women to normal lives. Even successful career women go on to have husbands and children and barbecues with family. But women like us can’t ever wrap our minds around such a life of simplicity. We can’t let go of the part of us that wants to do something bigger than we are. That thing that makes us who we are.” Can’t spell out the “Not Marriage Material” much clearer than that. Sure Deleone throws out a red herring occasionally like Harrison telling Fortune he’s changing careers for a woman. Making readers wonder if Fortune and Carter will get together for the long term certainly doesn’t hurt the appeal of the series. But I think in the end she realizes things like marriage and family don’t fit the life she wants to live. I suspect that for the balance of the series Fortune’s and Carter’s relationship will waiver back and force to keep us guessing an interested. I hope I’m wrong. I’m a romantic at heart. But I think the handwriting is on the wall if we chose to read it. As for our story, beyond Fortune being heartsick over the end of her relationship with Cater and musing about what she wants her life will look like in the future, our team of intrepid crime stoppers first sets out to find out who has been catfishing the lonely senior women of Sinful bilking them out of money, and then who killed Gail. The book still has its funny moments but for me some of them are getting stale. Gertie’s giant purse full of everything but the kitchen sink. Gertie wearing ridiculously inappropriate clothes and talking Fortune into dressing up like a cheap hooker for some undercover assignment. Jokes about Gertie’s terrible vision and refusal to wear glasses resulting in hair raising driving. Its funny but after eight books it’s getting a little threadbare. Also where there is a lot of subtle humor in this book it lacks the big belly laugh scenes that the other books contain. Deleone does a great misdirection play in this story. When I’m sure I know who the bad guy (or woman) is, I’m proven wrong. Good story with an ending that moves the series along nicely.
