Travis cannot watch television anymore without feeling like the people on television have special messages for him. Travis feels that characters on television have a special message for him and are out to get him. Travis tries to watch television and enjoy it but the hallucinations make it impossible. Travis shares how when he watches scary movies like Saving Private Ryan he has to be careful because he feels like he is a part of the movie. Travis has to become the movie and do what the characters tell him to do. Travis shares that the characters on television instruct him on how to perform operations on himself and he also shows you how the visual and audio hallucinations interfere with his life. One time a character on the news named Heather Herron told Travis that he had to get in his car and go to Indianapolis to find the Unidentified Flying Object. Travis listened and drove to Indianapolis and the aliens took control of Travis' car while he was driving down there. The aliens forced Travis to spend the night in his car in Indianapolis and would not allow him to leave until he found the UFO. Travis had to find the UFO or the aliens wanted him to punish himself by cutting his wrists with a razor. Travis tries hard not to listen to bad voices and hallucinations that are out to get him but sometimes he finds it hard. This is a great book that talks about what having Schizophrenia is like. Here is an excerpt from the book. "It is a weird feeling to have the people on the news talk to me. They try and tell me that I am a bad person and I should be punished. I hate when the television anchors start talking to me explaining how I deserve to be punished because I have autism. I try to ignore the television characters. Sometimes I try to listen to music channels on the television but then sometimes the song starts talking to me or the person who wrote the song starts talking to me and it becomes very confusing and it is hard for me to enjoy the song. I try really hard to enjoy life but the things I used to do like listening to music and watching television are not even enjoyable for me anymore because I have Schizophrenia and am experiencing all of the visual and audio hallucinations. It is downright scary at times for me to cope with Schizophrenia."
