I picked up this box set because of all the 5-star reviews and it's on KU. I won't finish it, here's why: Bill, the angel was one of the most unlikeable characters I've read in a while. He's mostly just vulgar and corny, no depth at all. The female lead, Lily, was annoying because her opinions zoomed from one extreme to another, sometimes within a page or so. Some examples: (vague enough to hopefully not spoil the book for anyone else) "I'm going whether you come with me or not! I will not fail" I picked up this box set because of all the 5-star reviews and it's on KU. I'm afraid and I'm not ready!" and "He's one of the rudest men I've met, he should be in A**holes Anonymous" to "Why won't he have sex with me?" and "I don't trust him" to "his word is good enough for me". A big turn off for me was when they got into the underground. As I was reading it, I was thinking Gee, if this was a movie, it'd be a horror flick. Some gruesome characters and situations. Not my thing. The book is well-edited, couldn't find and misused or misspelled words. That's why I gave it a 3-star instead of a 2-star rating. Towards the end of the book, the author toned Bill down a bit and Lily wasn't so changeable. I even though about going on to the next story but remembered the 'horror flick' aspect, so I passed. Other's may find this to be a fun read. I don't do horror, even campy horror.

Not for me I read books 1-4 and I’m stopping. Up to this point, there is no explanation for how Bill can be an angel and say and do so many vulgar things. I tried to enjoy some of his humor but found him distracting and off putting. Tallis is okay. Lily doesn’t feel like a strong enough female character. I agree with others that “hands on hips” is completely overused. In fact I did a search and the word “hips” is used 35 times, mostly in some variation of that phrase. There was a lot of repetition in general, and their adventures felt chaotic and didn’t make much sense to me. What was the point of the yak-man? I think there were only about 25 reviews on this boxed set when I downloaded it. I may try something else by this author that has more reviews.

I debated between 3 or 4 stars because of one character-Bill the angel. He is vulgar and childish. Not what you would expect in an angel, especially a guardian angel. However Tallis the brooding Scotsman makes this an interesting series. Lily learning to stand up for herself also makes this an entertaining read.

May be Spoilers First I love the books! They are a new look at guardian angels, heroines, and love. Reading about the demure shy women coming into her women hood is a treat and good goodness Tallis the bladesmith is worth it!!! I highly recommend this book.

If you're a fan of Mallory and her delicious PNR world's then this boxed set will be right up your alley. Don't pass up on Lily's journey! The after life seems to be more exciting then the land of the living. If you're a fan of Mallory and her delicious PNR world's then this boxed set will be right up your alley.
