This is one of the poorer issues that I've read. Maybe they were holding all of the good stories back for the following month, the 10th anniversary issue. Edgar Pangborn - The Red Hills of Summer - 3 stars - First landing on an alien planet finds unusual plants, animals and infections. OK, but not that good. Isaac Asimov - Science: Varieties of the Infinite - 3 stars - A discussion of what infinity means in mathematics. 5 Authors - Quintet - 2 stars - Having five authors write short stories with gr This is one of the poorer issues that I've read. 5 Authors - Quintet - 2 stars - Having five authors write short stories with grammar and spelling errors in order to have a contest to pick out which one is written by an elementary student. A waste of space. Robert Arthur - The Devil's Garden - 3 stars - A man is hexed by an Indian fakir and made to feel pin pricks at unpredictable times, which is driving him crazy. A way is found to irritate the fakir in return. Will Stanton - Who Is Going to Cut the Barber's Hair? - 2 stars - A farm boy goes to the big city to experience the ultimate big city life - a cocktail party. He is intercepted by an alien who wants to experience it instead. A nonsense story. Joanna Russ - Nor Custom Stale - 4 stars - In the far future automated houses are created which provide their inhabitants everything that they need to live, until the end of the world. Robert Graves - Interview with a Dead Man - 2 stars - The writing is OK, the story is nonexistant. Edward S. Aarons - The Makers of Destiny - 3 stars - Post-apocalyptic America, a second civil war, mind control, rebellion. An OK story, but not that good. Grendel Briarton - Ferdinand Feghoot: XVIII - 2 stars - The worst pun yet. Leslie Bonnet - Game With a Goddess - 4 stars - A Chinese monk has to dust the statues of the many gods and goddesses in the temple. He persuades the statues to help him out, except for the statue of the goddess of femininity. He finally gains her good side, and then some!
