Not only did I receive 125 Recipes with 80 full color photos inside this book I was introduced to an author whose stories are hilarious. The sections titled Connect with Shellie are sprinkled throughout the book and helped the reader get to know her and her family. The author says, “This cookbook is dedicated to the food of my raising and the hand that prepared it. I’d rather put my feet under your table and swap stories with family and friends than place them under the most celebrated five-star restaurant around.…To treasured readers – Thank you for the friendship and the support. Now put your feet under my table and let’s chat.” Subtitle to this book says it all, “Recipes and Ramblings from The Belle of All Things Southern” Here are some of the recipes I’d like to try Apple Sauce Breakfast Muffins – Parmesan Bread Bites, Summer’s Shrimp and Feta Cheese PoBoys, Simplest Cathead Biscuits Ever, Chili Cheese Corn Muffins, Pumpkin Bread, Broccoli and Cheese Corn bread, Cheesy Shrimp Spoon Bread, Buttermilk Chicken, Challenging Fish Taco’s Black Olive and Salsa Chicken. (Heck truth be known I want to try all the recipes in this book and most likely will be years end! LOL!) Below is a peek at this author’s fun personality and wit in the section titled Appetizers to Take the Edges Off – Thoughts on Love and War “Where there is strife, there is pride.” Prov 12:10 NIV: The author says, “…In the middle of my story telling you will find me sharing recipes, be seeing as how I believe that all the best recipes come with a story, there’s only one thing left to say, Have a seat, folks let’s chat.” She continues, “I had to wait a good long while to tell this story, but ever since I got clearance from the parties involved, I’ve been busy telling it here, there, and yonder. It’s just too good. I even put it in my storytelling CD, Y’all Asked for It, a work of love so titled because folks had been asking me for audio recordings of my stories at my product table. I can work this tale into most any speech, given a minute or two to come up with a clever segue, but it’s a perfect opening for a chapter on love and war.” (You’ll have to get the book to read the rest of the story LOL!) Not only is this book jam packed with mouthwatering Southern dishes it’s filled with fun stories that will make you smile, and laugh as you get to know who Shellie Tomlinson is. I’d never heard of her before being sent this ARC review copy. She’s hilarious. I’ll be checking out her radio program as I make some of these yummy easy to make dishes for friends and family who are not on the gluten-free journey I'm on. I did see some recipes I could eat too! Hungry Is A Mighty Fine Sauce is more than a cookbook. This is a book with southern recipes, replete with stories and southern humor sure to delight, and photographs that are sure to make anyone's mouth water. The recipes, range from comfort food to holiday fare, are explained in an easy to understand and follow manner. There are 125 recipes including ones for casseroles, meats, breads, soups, veggies, salads, and sweets. As if the photos and recipes were not delightful enough, here are a few of Hungry Is A Mighty Fine Sauce is more than a cookbook. The recipes, range from comfort food to holiday fare, are explained in an easy to understand and follow manner. There are 125 recipes including ones for casseroles, meats, breads, soups, veggies, salads, and sweets. As if the photos and recipes were not delightful enough, here are a few of the story nuggets which I enjoyed: "Families are like gumbos, full of a little bit of everything." "I’ve decided to begin making official proclamations. I figure I should use this title of mine for good. Therefore, as the Belle of All Things Southern I now proclaim that chocolate is the new tofu.." "It’s only when we tax ourselves to chew on a passage of God's Word until we’re able to express the treasure we've found in it, that the life-sustaining truth we're enjoying can become broken down bread to share with others. " "The following is an actual alert. If I were making a funny, I’d tell you, but I’m as serious as Elvis was about his blue suede shoes." "I'm not saying it's wrong for us to have an opinion. And I'm not saying we can't voice it. I just want us to remember that a dying world needs to hear less of our fiery rhetoric and more about the saving grace of our Savior. " As you read the cookbook, the combination of stories, recipes, and photos will quickly endear Shellie to your heart. In fact, you will come to feel like she is an old friend as she oozes hospitality. My favorite of all quotes from the book? This one right here: "I've so enjoyed sharing my recipes with you in these pages, along with stories of my family and friends. I hope you'll get in touch and stay in touch because you feel like family. And on that note, I'd like to speak a blessing over you before I go. May you and I live eager Jesus-hungry lives, opening our mouths wide and asking God to feed us with the Bread of Life." Yes, I was given an electronic copy of this cookbook in exchange for my honest review. The book is truly lovely and would make a beautiful gift for anyone who enjoys cooking. More so, I was blessed to interact with Shellie, finding her to be warm and genuine and as comforting as her recipes.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. The first thing that attracts me to this cookbook is the cover. The cover tells the reader a lot before they even open the book. Besides having a great design and color, it clearly says what kind of cuisine it contains. I have lived in the South my whole life, so I jump at the chance to read and try new Southern recipes. I also like the fact that the author is a “storytelling” cook. It is great to have stories to go with the recipes. I love the structure of this cookbook. It is organized the way most cookbooks are which is by course, except the author adds a charming little back story to each section, as well as a paragraph before each recipe explaining the why, when, and how she uses it. It adds a nice personal touch to each recipe and the reader can really feel the love and attention that went into each one. Scattered throughout the book are more stories about Shellie and her adventures through life so far. It is clear from the first few pages that this is a true Southern lady who loves God, family, and friends. Each recipe lists easy to find ingredients in the order they will be used. The instructions are appropriate for even the most novice cook. Shellie evens adds some shortcuts if cooks are in a hurry. Included with each recipe is a high quality color photograph of the finished product. Although there are a few traditional Southern recipes in here, many of them Shellie has put her own twist to make them even more delicious. Her basic white sauce recipe is sure to become a regular in my kitchen. I would highly recommend this cookbook for the most seasoned Southern chef and also for those who are just beginning their journey through Southern cuisine.

I'm from a Southern family and there are three things that are universally important to us . . . faith, family, and of course FOOD! In fact those three facets are so interwoven it's hard to see where one begins and another ends. In my opinion there's not much better than Sunday dinners at grandma's house with all the loved ones. Hungry Is A Mighty Fine Sauce is Shellie Rushing Tomlinson's newest storytelling cookbook that combines all those things except the stories are about her crazies instead of mine. (Trust me that's a good thing!) It was a total delight to get my hands on a copy. Several of the recipes were familiar and the ones that we've tried are quite tasty. One of the nicest things is that the stories about friends and family may be unusual but the recipe ingredients are not! In my opinion there's nothing worse than landing on a yummy sounding recipe only to be stumped by some of the ingredients. Never fear! All the ingredients are probably staples in your house and if not I guarantee they are just down the street at your local grocery. The pictures are beautiful (I think you can almost smell the aroma coming from the dish) and the stories are hysterical. If you have a foodie on your gift giving list this would be the perfect item. It packs a double whamy . . . it's wonderful to look through and read and it's a delicious adventure to cook from. You seriously can't go wrong with this one. I received a copy of this cookbook to facilitate my review.

This cookbook is a lot of fun! The author includes chatty stories along side comfort food recipes that are just begging to be tried. Not your typical cookbook, though it does include some really great down-home southern recipes. What makes this book shine are the stories included throughout. Stories about food, family, and hospitality. I read it straight through, skimming the recipes as I went along... but I'll be trying some of them, too.
