Great addition to the Appalachian Magic series! (This is book 1 and reads like a stand alone. No cliffhangers) Not only was Callie & James' story a gripping tale of witches and immortals, it had me googling things like Dismals Caverns, the Battle of Selma, dismalites and thunderstones. It's clear that Herbert does her research on a variety of topics and it gives the story a depth not found as often as one would like in new adult. It is written with so much warmth it makes you as the reader fall into this world so easily and effortlessly, it makes you feel like you know the characters and the town that they live in. This shows the high calibre of this author's talent to create such a vivid story that makes the reader crave more!!! Callie is a brilliant character, she goes through so much in this book, you feel it all alongside her, she is so relatable that you completely understand her feelings and why she reacts a certain way to certain situations, situations that I would react the same way. She had so much inner strength! She is a strong passionate woman that knows what she wants, she always tries to do the right thing with the information she is given and the protection of others is so important to her!!!! James is another brilliant character to read about!!! He has lived a long time going through many experiences that has made him the sort of man that he is. He has a big heart for those that get inside it and will do anything for those he loves, he is extremely protective by nature and will also always do what he thinks is right, no matter the opinions of others!!!! This is such an amazing book, readers really need to pick this book up and read it, they will definitely not be disappointed!!!! I love this author's work and how she writes, such an amazing talent!!!!

Callie is a witch with an evil father. Her mom sends her away to live with other family. She comes back home months before her 20th birthday. She is supposed to come into "great" powers when she turns 20. James is an immortal who was "born" into his immortality in 1865 after he was killed. No explanation (his father and brothers died in the war, his mom also died before the war's end and they weren't reborn as immortals- so must not be genetic). I did like the writing, but this was way too YA for me (IMO, it read very YA). Callie and friends are attending a local junior college before transferring to a larger university. I swear they were in high school- lockers, lunch hour with awful cafeteria food, announcements overhead on the PA, etc I did like the last 1/3 or so; the pace picked up and the ending was decent. It was too little too late for me; not interested in reading Skye's book. Booklikes Halloween Bingo: Spellbound

DNF @ 24% I promised I wouldn't DNF this but I had to due to the lack of caring. I couldn't connect with the characters. The heroine is suppose to be nineteen and in a junior college. Callie the main character had such a good heart, which lead me to really connect with her. I loved being able to connect with such a kind hearted person that was willing to fight to keep the people that she loved safe from evil, and wrong doings. I never once thought this character was one to complain. She made something good of everything she could instead. I really needed that in a book because it led me to be more positive too. Not only was this book about a girl unraveling just what might happen when she rose to her full power, but it also had a romance building that was kenetic. The love was something anyone would want, and one that also very few find. I was happy to see that two people who needed it ended up finding it. This was one of those books that not only kept up with plenty of unexpected things happening, but also a real understanding on just how precious life can be. You can't let the negative rule your life, but you can make your own destiny even if here and there, there could be some downfalls that you might have to deal with.

Witches, immortals and a charming good time. A sweet ya story that had the romance, fantasy, and adventure to keep the story flowing well. I enjoyed the story, I only wish it wasn't so full of cliches. I'm also not a fan of instant love and wish there was more development in their relationship. Great Read. I found this book to be lighter and fresh. Different. There was some angst. There was some mystery. There was some romance. But not the heavy kind. I'm addicted to PNR. I loved Callie and James! The plot was expertly woven and I couldn't stop reading! The concept of two different paranormals and the doomed Romeo and Juliet romance would normally drive me crazy, but this one was great. As soon as I finished this book, I started on book 2, focusing on two different supernatural species and a different character. Fantastic series! Five glittery stars! I loved Callie and James! This was a nice read. The only major things that annoyed me was Callie's resentment towards her mother and the scepticism she had towards believing that her family would be telling the truth about her father. The only other thing that bugged me a bit, was the vagueness surrounding how an immortal is made. This was a nice read. A New Adult romance, the first book has a witch with a complicated background becoming involved with an immortal who is very wary of her kind. Throughout their complicated relationship, difficult choices must be made when futures are at stake. CHARMED AND DANGEROUS is magically enchanting. When Callie Bradford was twelve, she and a friend decided to use a hidden Ouija board in her home for fun. But right after the event which had a scary ending, the witch was sent away for seven years and had little contact with anyone back in Alabama. Now Callie has been summoned to come home but not told why. During a morning walk, she encounters another hiker, James MacLauren, and is delighted to hear both will be attending the same college next semester. While she enjoys being around the young man, she knows any of her capabilities as a witch must be kept secret. Callie does not realize James is an immortal with his own distinctive skills that few know about. When he accidently discovers she is a witch, he thinks being around one of her kind could be disastrous if she turns on him. After finally told the reason for being called back to the area is for her protection, Callie has a hard time thinking the danger is real. Yet upon learning her supposedly long dead father is a powerful warlock who practices dark magic, Callie starts to believe the peril may be genuine. When several disturbing incidents seem to be connected to her upcoming birthday with its special significance, the relationship she has with James is truly tested. With lots of original details, CHARMED AND DANGEROUS is constantly entertaining. I really liked how Debbie Herbert included plenty of unique aspects in the story, such as the Dismals Canyon, an actual place in Alabama. How crystals and other practices used by witches are depicted all through the book is certainly intriguing, and it made scenes seem much more convincing to me. Facts about rituals and spells added even more credibility, making me think the events actually could have happened as portrayed. There are many likable characters in the story, from the main couple to her good friends, and I enjoyed seeing how these college age individuals reacted to each other and any situations featuring the paranormal. I really loved how the author gave James and Callie normal problems teenagers must face along with many challenging consequences of having supernatural abilities. James is a great hero, as he often listens to his heart instead of what his mind recommends. Though Callie is often puzzled over what is taking place in her life, I liked how she tried to find solutions without bringing any true harm to others, even though she could. Any sexual interaction between Callie and James is understated yet perfectly fit their budding relationship. I am thrilled more characters in the Appalachian Magic series get their own book. CHARMED AND DANGEROUS is cleverly imaginative. 4.5 Stars

Magic is definitely in the Appalachian area. Callie is a witch who grew up away from her mother and grandmother for most of her life. When she was young after a particularly scary Ouija Board incident, they sent her to live with her aunt in New Jersey (completely cool with me since it’s my state) to protect her. After seven years away, her mother and grandmother demand she return because she is supposed to come into great power on her birthday on the upcoming summer solstice. Callie is awesome. She is smart, funny, loyal and one heck of a gifted witch. She grows a lot as a character throughout the novel. She starts off a little bitter and broken inside about being abandoned by her family but then grows to understand the reasons behind it and appreciates the sacrifices her family made to keep her safe. James is great book boyfriend material. He is hot, sexy, immortal, smart, brave and lonely. He has lived a long time and had not met the right woman. He is also getting tired of constantly fighting other immortals. Then he met Callie…but he was told to stay away from witches because the consequences of getting involved with one could be terrible for an immortal. James can’t seem to stay away from Callie even though he tries his best to do just that. He soon discovers that Callie in in danger and he does his best to protect her. I love the chemistry between Callie and James. They make a great team and it is obvious that they can handle any situation as long as they do it together. The supporting character are awesome especially, Skye, who is the lead character in Book one. It was great to see her in this book. This book had a nice pace to it and flowed well. The story line is a unique twist on witch and immortal lore and kept my interest throughout. There was only one thing I noticed that could be different. The characters are supposed to be in junior or community college, but the way it was written seemed more like they were still in high school. Maybe community college is different in other states. I really liked this book and I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Five Stars * * * * *

I hate insta-love! Back to my reasons I think the book was originally set in high school... these kids are supposed to be in COLLEGE yet they have the same classes every day. I went to both a small college like theirs is supposed to be then to a university and both had varied classes M-W-F and others on Tu-Th. Callie gets called to the Deans office over the P.A. system. The cafeteria seems to only have one or two choices of terrible food during “lunch period” every day. They can’t wait for the bell to end their days. 2 side characters play football and keep talking about starting at Alabama next year. There only seems to be the one building and the halls are lined with lockers. (??) Like I said, I think this was originally set in high school and the author didn’t feel like editing to change the setting so it felt like it was at a college when she decided to make her main character older. Is this nit picking? The setting is important to any story and should make it feel real. The details mentioned above were off and hindered the story in my opinion. Also Callie is just not a character I liked. Why doubt your Mom & Grandma when they warn you about your evil Dad? They sent you away to keep you SAFE you twat-waffle! So stupid. So childish. Seriously pass on this book.

James is Immortal and lives with his father who has a very intense but understable dislike for witches. When James and Callie meet for the first time, they are mesmerised by each other but having a relationship could prove to be disastrous in view of James' father's bad experience with witches. Callie discovers that her father, Lucas is alive and practices the dark arts. He is set on Callie joining his coven once she has been initiated. Her mother and grandmother do their best to protect her from the dark side. Her father gives her a choice and makes it so appealing that it's hard to ignore. Will she choose the light or go over to her father's side? Lucas has other secrets too! James and Callie make the ideal couple but in view of their circumstances and meddling from others their relationship doesn't look very promising. As the story unfolds more and more secrets come to light. It's a fascinating novel full of magic and danger. Love and loyalty. Betrayal. Greed for money and power. The final battle is brutal. Will light or dark prevail? It's very well portrayed and I would fully recommend to those interested in Young Adult Paranormal Romance full of surprises, suspense and drama.

I like witchy books, especially ones filled with secrets and lies, so I sped through Charmed and Dangerous. Part of what kept me glued to the pages was the detailed writing. The settings were incredibly vivid, and the witchcraft aspects were seamlessly weaved into the story. It was really interesting reading!

This was the first work I've read of Debbie Herbert, and I was not disappointed. Anything that is fresh and original keeps my attention. Callie's story was paced well and kept me guessing. The original spells were beautiful. And last, but not least. I really loved the characters. I wanted to know more about James (of course), Lucas, and Mabel, but I feel that the information given was appropriate and I was satisfied reading the whole thing. I loved the storyline, basically a love story in the making but yes I love a good book that contains WitchCraft and this book contains good threatened by bad. James sees Callie and well he likes her, Callie sees James and well she likes him. He is an Immortal & she is a witch. James has been told for many a year that witches are bad news and Callie is unaware that Immortals are around. Love the characters and the various scenes

Magical love affair that will last forever Account witch, born on the day of Solstice is expected to become very powerful. Her dark Father wants to use her to gain control of the world, her Mother wants her to live a good and wholesome life. Battles begin and a handsome stranger comes in to Callie's life. Which side will she choose? Good or bad? Light or dark? Will the handsome stranger be the one she will love forever. Forever is a very long time. So disappointed Based on the setting, I was excited to jump into this one. The story line itself was somewhat interesting which kept me going for way longer than I thought, but the writing itself was poor. It needed a lot more show and less tell. It was predictable and lacked detail that created rounded characters and interesting lot movement.

Great Book When I first started this book I was at the same time reading another one because I love reading so much that I sometimes read two books at once, but once I started reading this book well I got hooked by page 3 and then this book had my full and undivided attention because it is that good of a book and I really look forward to reading the next book in this series...

Lovely story Loved this lovely story of family, live, friendship and choices. Callie - was a breath of fresh air to read - loved her and so glad to see her grow through this story. Have to say I had “highlander” flash backs - so glad the author acknowledged this and made reference to it. Excited to see where this series goes from here.

Good of Its Kind This is an interesting mix of witches and immortals and a young girl caught between good and evil. Her choices will affect all the people she loves. It's good of its kind, a YA, though with some sexual content, appropriate and loving sex, but sex nonetheless. I honestly didn't make it far. Didn't really care for the characters so it was hard to get through the beginning. I like the writing and would give another series or stand-alone a chance by this author. I honestly didn't make it far. This is a wonderful book. I don't do reviews unless they're a five star. I could not stop reading. I am lucky that I have all three books and can keep reading. I loved the characters, even most of the bad guys! Very well written. You won't go wrong. This is a wonderful book. I don't do reviews unless they're a five star. I could not stop reading.
