This was a well written and entertaining Christian romantic suspense novella with great characters. I enjoyed meeting Audra Kincaid's younger sister and brother. Watching Carrie and John fall in love and deny it the whole time was hilarious. Mary Connealy's books are a treasure! She writes Christian Cowboy Comedies and she does it very well. Such a dry sense of humor this woman has. I never miss one of her books and this novella is wonderful. We get to meet back up with the Regulators in Broken Wheel, Texas. This is Big John Conroy's story. I just loved seeing all these familiar faces again! That was one of Mary's best series, in my opinion. Loved every minute of it and I think you will, too. Mary Connealy's books are a treasure! I felt that the purpose of this story was to give the readers a curtain call of sorts, bringing back a multitude of characters from two series for one final bow. Not a bad thing for devoted fans, and I do enjoy Mary Connealy (I think it's incredible the way she connected so many stories), but it left the actual plot rather shallow. Beautiful story and wonderful way to complete the Trouble in Texas/The Kincaid Brides Series. I was so excited when I heard this was Big John's story. And to pair him up with Audra Kincaid's sister? Brilliant! I could barely put it down and was sad to see the ending, even though the ending was very sweet. When I added this to my to-read shelf months and months ago, I only knew I wanted to read it because it had Big John Conroy as the hero, from the Trouble in Texas series. I was completely and pleasantly surprised to find out that Audra Kincaid's sister was the heroine. It was extra special because I've just re-read the Kincaid Brides series. I thought this story was just right, no more and no less than I expected, really. I really enjoyed this novella and first read by Mary Connealy. A story of a young woman being forced into a marriage with really a gangster to pay off her father's gambling debt and her escape with her younger brother into the arms of a Texas Ranger sent to rescue her from her fate. The story built from the ground up into a great ending that made me want to read the other books in her Kincaid Brides series and Trouble in Texas series. I wanted to make sure I remembered that I read this story! I have almost finished the Kincaid brides and now I'm starting to look forward to reading the Trouble in Texas stories. Mary Connealy has knack for tying all her books to each other. I loved this novella, simply for that fact. It can stand on its own for sure, but having read most of her other books I was already aware of most of the characters. Really enjoyed this one.

I felt that this book was too short. I was able to read the entire book in about 3 hours. I also thought that there could have been more character development as well as some exploration of the history of the characters...who are they and what motivates their decisions.

TERRIFIC!!! I couldn't help but laugh! The story was gripping and even though I haven't read the other books in the series for years I wasn't lost. The right amount of action, humor and inspiration for a quick read. TERRIFIC!!! I couldn't help but laugh! Some of the sentence structures were very repetitive. At times because of the format of the sentences it was hard to follow and understand what the author was trying to say. Also, there were soooo many secondary characters! If just John’s four main friends were introduced and their wives I feel that would have been plenty. But there were also in-laws, friends of in-laws, and mentions of random grandparents. Carrie Halsey and (her younger brother) Isaac escape in the middle of the night. Running from a man that she is being forced to marry...who isn't a gentleman in any sense. Big John Conroy was hired to bring Carrie to her sister. Not a big job for this Texas Ranger. He didn't expect the danger or younger brother..and a few other surprises along the way. I really enjoyed this story and honestly wished it was a full novel. Short and Sweet I have to say that I enjoyed this novella more than the previous one I read by Ms. Connealy. Overall, it was a good, quick read. The characters and story were more fleshed out, and I was happier with the resolution. I will say that this story could probably have been even better as a full-blown book rather than a novella -- in truth, I think the novel, rather than the novella, is where Ms. Connealy's skills truly shine. Western Romantic Suspense Mary Conneally weaves suspense, romance, and great characters into a prequel that left me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. The story has a fun opening scene reminiscent of Gothic romance, complete with the heroine running away from a dark mansion and bumping into the hero who was hired to rescue her. But make no mistake, the heroine is far from being a woman who needs rescuing. Mary has created a strong, smart heroine to match her Texas Ranger hero. It was so much fun to see many characters that I had previously met in other books by this author show up in this story. The novella stands alone if you haven’t read other books by Mary Connealy before, but I was very happy to find out that Runaway Bride was Big John Conroy’s story! The romantic tension in this novella is palpable and I just absolutely loved the way the relationship progressed between Carrie and John. This was a very exciting and romantic story that I didn’t want to see end.
