It did not disappoint. Professor Castillo convinces his friends to accomplish p anything on a dangerous journey in the remote unknown Land of Death or the feared Morcegos territory in the Amazonian Basin to find his estranged daughter. Valeria is an anthropologist trying to study the indigenous tribes before a new dam floods all of their lands. They discover that the legends of The Black City and the terrifying Morcegos are true. They are amazed at the wonderful city buried in that remote jungle and the terrible travesty The Ancients did to the people they developed to become the Morcegos. The natives called it the Land of Death for a good reason from the time of the ancients, the Conquisidors, the Nazis and through to present days. The sins of the past live on to a wreck vengeance for the injustices done to them.

Just as Good as Book 1, but more of a Horror Story I enjoyed reading this book as much as Last Crypt ( BK 1). This was more of a horror novel, especially the second half. The translation was good, except as others have pointed out, there are blocks of Portuguese (not Spanish) when characters are quoting Portuguese journals? This can be irritating and disruptive while reading. If it is translated from Spanish to English, why not either translate the Portuguese, or skip it altogether? Good book This is book two of this series, Mr. Gamboa has taken real people and places and woven them into an interesting storyline. This book has a faster pace than the first, however, he keeps the constant bickering between the two lead characters. You would of thought Ulysses would have grown up a little in recognizing his faults given the timeline at the beginning of the story. The plot leaves open for book three as there are some lose threads to clear up. Overall a good read.

Read this when it first came out and read it again. Good sci fi book. Very interesting with many twists and turns. Kept me involved through out. Also read the Last Crypt and found it very interesting. I think Ulysses could be a more interesting character, but he is what he is, not a scientist, just a simple guy.

This was so good, edge of your seat type thriller, bought cause of the archeological aspects of it, and was great. the explaining of the surrounding, made you feel like I was there visualizing it. Professor searching for his daughter, discovering the black city, the pyramids, germans, and maybe rescuers, but no such luck. really good book!

It is different I found this book a little weird. It started off okay but it eventually got kind of bizarre. I still will probably read another of his books but this one was not one of my favorites.

This is the second book in the Ulysses Vidal series. Although the two books are completely stand-alone novels, the main three characters, Ulysses, Cassandra and Professor Castillo appear in both. I would recommend that the books are read in order, purely for an introduction to the main characters and a little background on their relationship. This time we learn that the professor has an estranged daughter who is lost in the Amazon and the professor asks Ulysses and Cassandra to accompany him on a rescue mission. This leads to encounters with an Amazonian tribe, mercenaries, a brutal company looking at destroying part of the rain forest and the disturbing and scary Morcegos. The action is well paced, the cast are well written and believable and the story is intriguing throughout. A really good effort and I'm looking forward to reading the third book (alluded to by the author at the end but not yet available at the time of writing).

Engaging thriller I read the previous book in this series and enjoyed it too. Not literary genius, just a good thrilling fun ride. Hope there's a next book in the series. Well, after read the book , I consider that it's a easy book and nothing special like other comments I read. He needs to improvise more, things happens and always no really keep you with this desire to read more. Just the end happens things more like a good writer trying to keep the reader inside of the book. Definitely I didn't read la ultima cripta from this writer but I will not do it. I could expect the same of this book. Well, after read the book , I consider that it's a easy book and nothing special like other comments I read. Another winner!!! This is the second book of the Ulysses Vidal adventures. Hopefully the third book will be out soon This is an adventure story about three friends who travel to the Amazon seeking the daughter of the professor. During their search, they find a lost city in the middle of the Amazon. As in book #1, the characters are well developed along with a action packed story. This is a great read.

Addicting....amazing...page turner This book was pure addiction from start to finish! The way fact and fiction gets twisted into an entertaining story continually intrigues me. Black City was clearly researched, planned, and executed perfectly. If your looking for a great, mysterious, and action packed adventure, Black City is a must to have on your bookshelf! 100% pure awesomeness!

Black City Is Dark Adventure I like the characters of this series although Ulysses seems a little dense at times in spite his brilliant ideas. To many narrow escapes and some story flaws which leave me scratching my head. The book certainly stretches reality about as far as can be before coming science fiction.

Clever flowing plot but jumpy writing. I like the plot and character development, but the writing was choppy with short abrupt scenes. You can put this book down and come back a day later without getting lost, but it doesn't make you eager to turn the page often enough. Clever flowing plot but jumpy writing. Kept my interest from start to finish. This adventure lives up to the saying of never a dull moment. Didn't want this read to end, the only consolation is knowing that there is more to come. Yeah! Great follow-up to the first book, but EVEN BETTER.. I think you're starting to be a little "Wilbur Smith-ish" no higher praise can I ever offer.... Keep going we are out here reading!
