We learn that he is conservative, static and intelligent. They receive a letter that is sent care of A.I. And this is where the trouble begins, because either of them can be the destinatary and there is a strange provision: - Do not open the letter, or words to that effect A debate is trying to establish if the missive should be opened and what is the idea behind such a request - Is this a prank, a practical joke? - Is it for Albert or for Ana? The dialogue and initial puzzlement make room for a dispute that sounds more and more like an argument. The spouses contradict each other on what has to be done and he even tries to sneak with the letter in a different room. There is irony and even sarcasm in the dialogue between husband and wife, even when the tone of the communication is civilized. There is a coup de théâtre and coup de foudre. Ana confesses that she loves Adam and that she has cheated on her husband for some time and strange as it seems…Albert knew about it? When the wife claimed that she is visiting a friend, she was actually seeing and having extramarital intimate relations with another man. Albert knew about it but it is strange that he never said anything about it and appears to prefer the present situation to a divorce. Adam has a disability, but it is not clear what is that, or at least I did not get it…it may also be the resentment that overwhelms Albert. As we try to understand better, it seems that Adam is walking with difficulty and is very sensitive on the subject. - Adam is not a real man, equal to the others- This is how Albert sees the situation and the fact that he is old fashioned, maybe even passé comes up again. Ana wants to leave, but her husband is trying subtle, insinuating scenarios to prevent her from alienating her lover. The fate of a landmark of the city is brought into the dialogue; the black tower may be replaced by a hotel. - What is within the letter after all? Speculations include a possible message from Adam, who may have had enough of the affair, but what is the point? - If he does not love you anymore, why go to him? Albert is asking the pertinent question, but we are still contemplating hypothesis and not known situations. - There are known unknowns in the famous words of a defense secretary that I liked, even when everybody said he is no good- Donald Rumsfeld. I liked the play and that is in large part due to the cast, which includes the two best actors that we still have Victor Rebengiuc and Mariana Mihut, husband and wife in real life and the actor a facebook friend- not that this means anything anymore…
