I've been wanting to start this series for a long time now, and I'm so glad I did! I loved the setting, and the characters were pretty awesome too. I think Jack is my favorite, and he was even Hannah's first friend in Hooks Harbor. It was almost like having a grandpa around, except his daughter Pam, a police officer, didn't care a lot for sharing him with anyone. He was so funny especially when he was plotting to get back (harmlessly) at a reporter for saying Hannah's late Aunt Caroline's chowde I've been wanting to start this series for a long time now, and I'm so glad I did! He was so funny especially when he was plotting to get back (harmlessly) at a reporter for saying Hannah's late Aunt Caroline's chowder caused food poisoning. Or when he put a certain idea in that reporter's head regarding the case. I didn't care a lot for Hannah's sister at Ruby at first, but she eventually got the hang of living in town and even how to sleuth a murder, and she started to grow on me. The little dog Nellie that Jack gave Hannah her first day there was so adorable and just what she needed. I'm not sure if the series is finished, but I'm hoping Hannah and Cal eventually become more than friends.

I really liked this book. A woman has a challenge, and its one we might all dream of. Taking over a ramshackle small corner of the world that we can transform into a business for sun and summer lovers. There are real characters, there is drama, and it's a fun read. I wish there had been more editing of this book. One of the typos had me going back over what I read in the chapter to see if I actually missed two men "shooting" at each other when it was supposed to be "shouting". That type of distraction (as well as you're vs your) can take away from even the best plot and character development. However, there were other things that bothered me like the very snappy or antagonistic dialog that wasn't necessary at times. Not only does it sound awkward, it's very weird to me to think that a new person to town would go around asking people where they were at the time of the murder. I know that cozy mysteries are usually written with an amateur sleuth as the hero or heroine but this line of awkward questioning takes away from the enjoyment of the story for me.

A great start to a new series (and a quick read!) Hannah has arrived to take stock of her inheritance from her Great Aunt Caroline which consists of a cafe and four cottages, one odd term of the inheritance is that she cannot sell up for a year! Mysterious Hannah moves to Hooks Harbor and the fun begins. This was a fun quick read for me. This is the first book in the series so there is a lot of background information given. I enjoyed meeting the characters. They are a very interesting mix but work well together. The end seemed a little rushed to me but the mystery of who did it was done well. Looking forward to the book

This one fell pretty short for me. I liked the characters well enough. Jack was a riot and really made the book a 3-star, rather than a 2-star. I just didn't feel like there was enough suspense. There wasn't any real rising action. I never felt like anyone was in danger. Nothing really seemed to be going on. I guess I expect more suspense from a mystery novel, even if it's of the cozy variety. I might read the next one, but it's not high up on my list. This one fell pretty short for me. I loved this There was so many suspects and reasons it was hard to guess who the killer was at least for me. I didn't even suspect the shooter until it was reviled which isn't like me normally I switch between a few but this time they was even on my radar as a real suspect. Hannah inherits a cafe and some guest cabins from her great aunt on the coast of main. Within hours of her arrival she's forced to point a shotgun at couple guys. One those guys ends up dead in one her cabins. Who killed him? Other mysteries occur and then there's the *know it all* tv reporter. Many believe that the great aunt didn't die and is haunting the place. Hannah inherits a cafe and some guest cabins from her great aunt on the coast of main. Good mystery This is a clean mystery with lots of red herrings. There were a couple of typos (such as Jake instead of Jack, which was the character’s name previously). Some of the scenes transitioned abruptly, making parts of the story seem rushed. There were also a lot of characters, and some seemed underdeveloped. Overall, this was a fun, clean, enjoyable book.

Gun powder Chowder. I enjoyed listening to this book. It was a fast paced book. Things happened in just a week or two. The premise of this book is unique. The sea side setting ,in the winter was different. I appreciated that there were many people who could have been the killer.

A fun read. Once I picked this book up, I could not put it down. The story and characters were intriguing and engaging, keeping me drawn. There were plenty of suspects to keep you guessing. The ending was satisfying. I look forward to reading more about these characters and their further adventures. This book is definitely worth reading.

Definitely Good Book This is a really good book with just enough twists and turns to make it interesting. Don't know if there's going to be a romance in the making yet but I sure like the old codger, Jack. Light and Amusing An easy, quick read when you want a break from more serious or emotionally wrenching fare. There a a few editing errors that are distracting (a "you're" instead of "your" was particularly glaring) but all in all a good book for a breezy read. Sun, sand and murder Good plot! What has the sand sculpture competition have to do with murder? The characters are good and the family dynamics are easy to relate to. Nice twists and the romance is played just right. Shame about the proofing errors but a good read. Recommended

Cute premise for a mystery with great location background. I love how Jack is a crusty older man who interacts well with others but hasn't a clue about what to do to get his family talking to him and each other.
