The author worked harder on her mystery this go around. Jill is spending more time with Grandma and less with her selfish sister, Kathy. Winky is still all sass, he's now been introduced to the twins. Fun play on words with the title! The author worked harder on her mystery this go around. Picking up in intensity a notch Just so, though. I am now fully aware that the series is currently 30 volumes in... Not gonna lie, that made me cringe a bit. That's a looong commitment to a single character. However, fun story and smart plot!! Picking up in intensity a notch Just so, though. Very cute series I am very pleased with this series, it is very uplifting and easy going. It is a simple read that my daughter (8 years of age) can read together. We find some humor in the book, Jill is neurotic but funny too.

This is just what I needed with the doom and gloom starting to really get to me. This series is a light, fun paranormal cozy involving a witch P.I., her one-eyed sarcastic cat, her fanatical knitter receptionist, a super-grumpy high witch grandmother, and various other quirky family members. A variety of cases and bursts of action round the stories out perfectly. In this installment the mc works on two different cases, continues to train with her grandmother, and faces an unexpected being.

Good, solid stories, but some details receive short shrift. If the author would flesh them out more completely, they'd be a much better read. Good, solid stories, but some details receive short shrift. If the author would flesh them out more completely, they'd be a much better read.

I want to like this series I want to like this series. I have made it through 6 books so far. I dont think I have a 7th in me though. I like the setting of the stories, the witchcraft and I am genuinely interested in the cases and in the main character's love life. Will she end up with Jack or Drake? I also enjoy the easy going style of the books. They are a nice read, a perfect way to spend an afternoon. However, the family dynamics are just terrible. Jill is a pushover for every member of her family and every member takes advantage pretty much to the point of abuse. It is distracting from the story when I find myself hoping Jill recognizes and frees herself from these toxic relationships. I also, hate the cat, I'm sorry to say. Winky is misogynistic and crass and brutal in his rudeness. I also wonder about this dark one storyline. It started out strong but, has tapered off to almost nonexistence in favor of fights over segregated cookies and beanies. If there was an organization that had tried to outright kill you wouldn't that be more of a priority? Why doesn't her witch family fill her in? It is a glaring plot hole. I started the 7th book but realized I had to put it down and write this review when Jill agrees to driver her cat to a dart competition and cant say no to the woman who insists on being her secretary. Bottom line is this is a series I want to love but it makes me cringe too much to continue.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books... 1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future. 2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author. 3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up. 4 sta Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books... 1 star... One of the best in this series yet.

Entertaining This series is very entertaining but like most series with supernatural beings, I find the obstacles put in their path to be very contrived. There is no explanation for why Hill couldn't just transport herself away from the danger, that's how she travels to and from Candlewood. And there are other situations that similarly, spells that she has learned seemed like they would have come in very handy, and made pretty short work of the problem. Her neighbor and his two year cancellation fee, since upping his fee, I would have thought she could have felt fine with causing him to forget she signed the contract. Also, she should have just said that she would have to charge him for the makeover.

A good comedic mystery Jill continues to grow as an investigator and witch, while her love life seems to be heading a good direction as well. Two murders and they don't appear to be connected but something just doesn't sit right and Jill is determined to figure it out. Jack is back and Jill seems to be in his good graces for now. I laughed and really enjoyed the book, I only want the romance, any one of them, to pick up please! This is the sixth book in the series, and Jill acted a little different in this one. At least the first half of it. She had another mystery to deal with, but she also had a lot of family drama as well. This one is probably my least favorite of the series. I really hated how Jill acted in this one. It was beyond annoying, and I really wish she would just pick a guy to be completely interested in and leave the others alone.

I know... I have a lot to say when a book upsets me. But this book is the kind of book that restores my faith in books, after a bad read. I normally just put my 5 stars and think, "anything I write about this book is going to be embarrassing, compared to the talent of this author." But... I just wrote a very harsh review about a depressing book disguising itself as a light escape. So I'm going to try to do justice to this: my attempt at a five star book review. Jill Gooder is happily single. She's I know... I have a lot to say when a book upsets me. But this book is the kind of book that restores my faith in books, after a bad read. I just wrote a very harsh review about a depressing book disguising itself as a light escape. So I'm going to try to do justice to this: my attempt at a five star book review. Jill Gooder is happily single. She's interested in men, but she's got a good life on her own. (Psst... Adele Abbot, if you read this, could Jill and Daze please be a couple? Daze is SO HOT, and the men in the story are not treating Jill like the treasure we know she is.) Jill runs her own business, brilliantly solves crimes, and finds time to study hard. She is generous, sweet, and kind, yet Jill stands up for herself. Jill is always saying things that make me literally laugh out loud. (Jill outs me as a crazy book lady.) Jill is always THINKING things that are even more hilariously funny than the witty things she says. Jill makes mistakes, owns up to them, and still loves the people (and animals) who endlessly tease her about them. Jill is brave, clever, humble, and endlessly entertaining. When I'm down, I step into these books and escape to a place where Jill is my friend, and she's sharing her adventures with me. Thank you, Adele Abbot, for the gift of these stories.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I’m not really sure what the titles of these books have to do with the story, but I liked this one too! The brother of the woman staged a big plot to kill their other brother so he could be with his fiancé. Onto the next!

Something Off I do not know exactly what is wrong, but there was something off. It felt like the jokes were old or recycled, the mystery I was able to figure it out early in the story, and the "danger" felt contrived. It only took a few books but now we have her actual deduction process and her doing some real detective work without her simply bumbling into the conclusion of the mystery. I like that this book is finally lending her some credit and it seems that Jack is starting to respect that she has actual P.I. skills. I really enjoyed myself with this one! These are truly getting better every book and the stories are developed further and further. Finally Jill's detective process revealed! 4/5. The books are still very good, but the humour becomes repetitious. Sometimes it really steales attention from the plot and I can't help myself with a thought that the author stood up on a sort of conveyor of this series. Maybe I'm completely wrong. But I do like the characters and especially the main character Jill and Winky the cat. Wondering where the story will lead, so giving a go to the next one! 4/5. Sometimes the main PI story gets lost in all the personal stuff, then it comes back with a vengeance. These books are great and always end on a cliffhanger. Grandma now has competition; from someone who is determined to be the star of the show. It's an interesting dynamic. Sister Kathy continues to be annoying. The twins are just plodding along and getting into scrapes. Winky is so brilliant. As is Mrs V. Can't wait for the next book..... An overstuffed book that seems very unfocused There's a lot happening in this book. A lot. Too much, in fact. The plot meanders all over the place until some very deus ex machina conclusions. The “jokes” are consistently on the mean side, of course, for the continuing saga of some rather petty, childish main characters. The ending is good & makes TDO seem less like a mcguffin. Interesting world, but I'd like to some growth from Jill et al. An overstuffed book that seems very unfocused There's a lot happening in this book. A lot. Too much, in fact. Best one yet This was the best book so far! They just seem to get better and better! I do think the dog is a little too dumb while the 🐱 is so smart but then I'm a 🐕person! Really need to read books in order so if you haven't read the beginning of the series you should it's all been great and gets better every book! Best one yet This was the best book so far! Two murders and Jill is on the case. When one scene yields fingerprints you'd think that the killer would soon be caught. Only trouble is that the fingerprints belong to someone that died a couple of years earlier. Then there's Jills private life that gets ever more mixed up. And lets not forget Winky who just has to keep his human under the paw. Two murders and Jill is on the case. When one scene yields fingerprints you'd think that the killer would soon be caught. A fun read With its light tone and chatty, amusing narration, this series continues to be fun to read. Not actually distinct stories, each successive book picks up exactly where its predecessor left off, making the series one flowing story. Light, with mild mystery subplots and a cast of distinct, well-drawn characters, these books are a restful tonic.
