It never crossed my mind at that time that in a few years, I'd be playing onstage in Argentina with my musical idol in front of 17,000 rabid fans. I learned two things on my incredible journey. One is that, no matter where you start, you can reach the stars. The other is, you'd At sixteen, I was just another poor kid in Cleveland learning to play power chords on my guitar. Also posted to Amazon.com: Author C.J. Gunn provides candid insight into surviving his dysfunctional family and addictions in pursuit of a career in Rock. This book, thankfully, doesn't have the ending one might expect from the world of Rock and Roll, and is a great tale of perseverance and tenacity against the odds. He does a good job of keeping the reader on the roller coaster ride with him, celebrating the highs and lamenting the lows. And, even with a satisfying end to the book, there's a sense that there could be a lot more to this story. A sequel, perhaps?

Reading this was like reading a 12-year-old's diary. It was whiny and immature, and everything is "poor me." There are no interesting anecdotes about the Ramones or any other band. Just boring, short "I played this show" entries. And the addiction and recovery fails to be compelling in any way. It's just I got addicted; I got clean. Overall, the book really needs an editor for facts (I found several dates that I know because I was there were wrong), grammar, spelling, typos, and style. The mistakes were so rampant it was hard to get past. Also, please buy the author a thesaurus so he can find another word for "bleak," which he uses as practically every adjective in the book.

I absolutely loved this book! I think that it is a must read for anyone out there that is trying to live their dream in the face of opposition, and for anyone out there that is currently seeking a career in the music industry. Seriously, this is a must read!!
