Well, the dog is great but I never get over what a jerk Derek is to Gage. Professor shouldn't treat students that way and I don't mean the falling in love thing. He is just cold and unreasonable. However, I did love the way Gage resolves the teacher student thing without drama and how he goes after what he wants. There is also a nice epilogue. Early on I'd have liked a few more scenes showing the development of their relationship from antagonists to reluctant attraction to love. But I soon got sucked into the story and was rooting for the guys. Loved the epilogue. This is the kinda of of book I neither loved nor hated. Except for the brief references to Gage’s service dog and his time in the Middle East, there wasn’t a lot here of interest to me. I never warmed up to the protagonists and the story just lacked the punch I look for in a great tale.

4 Stars I had to give this story 4 stars simply for making me cry in such a short amount of time. When animals, particularly dogs, are thrown into the story-mix, I’m done! I really liked Gage as a character but couldn’t quite understand his pull towards grumpy bum Derek. Their relationship felt very sudden, but I threw caution to the wind and embraced it anyway. Ultimately, any story that can make me cry on multiple occasions (with only a few chapters involved) deserves two thumbs up! 4.5 Star Review of Solid Education by Bianca Sommerland Solid Education is an M/M story which I thoroughly enjoyed. However when Gage rescues a dog who is in distress and takes him to the nearest veterinarian, he is shocked to find it is his professor Derek. Gage names the dog Matty, primarily because of the condition he finds the dog in. Matty becomes the bridge that links Derek and Gage initially. However the attraction that Derek and Gage feel for each other soon has them entering into a relationship. Gage suffers flashbacks and leaves their bed nightly to seek out Matty who reminds him of his previous dog Gunner, who was killed when Gage was wounded and retired from the military. Derek will do almost anything to ensure that Gage is well rested and sleeps with him and is not above bribing Matty onto his bed. I think it was at that moment that I realised how much Derek cares for Gage. I really loved both these characters and the way that they brought the best out in each other. I enjoyed reading Derek and Gage’s story, the sex was hot and this was a romance, through and through. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good M/M story that is a fairly quick read.

While Derek took a bit to know and like, Gage was perfect from the get-go! A quick insta-attraction story but packing some seriously sexy scenes and depth of emotions Oh, and a wonderful dog!

Solid education is a short male/male romance about a teacher who falls for one of his pupils after the pupil saves a lost dog. The book is decently written. The main characters are likeable and there's a dog so that's always a great bonus. The story packs a lot in for such a short book and also has a good attempt at averting the love at first sight trope by letting the two protagonists build some chemistry together before they start sleeping together. The scenes with a dog are cute and the story plays out nicely. Very cute. However, there are maybe too many plot threads for such a short piece. It felt like a lot wasn't properly developed becasue of it. Personally, I'd leave out the student/teacher plot line and have focused on Gage's strugges as a veteran. The student/teacher thing didn't really work for me anyway as Gage transfering to another class woudln't actually change anything to make it more legal which was the fix that was provided. Could have used more building of attraction as we go from I hate you to I like you, though at least there's a nice pause after that to start of a relationship. All in all, this isn't a bad little book and makes a cute, quick read. It was too short to support the plot it was trying to pull off but was still fun and sweet.

A great book for those who love hate to lovers stories. Derek and Gage are like fire waiting to ignite with sparks flying of them I loved it. Gage had served in war and lost his dog to IEDs and now suffered from PTSD. Gage hated the Professor in the beginning but then he'd seen the person underneath. His mission was to make the Professor lighten up and have fun, a tough job but he loved a challenge.

3.5 stars - Three stars just doesn’t seem right, but 4 stars is too many. The sex was hot, but the whole insta-love thing was weird. This short story takes place over a time period of two weeks. Through most of the book, Derek isn’t very kind to Gage. Yes, he’s attracted to Gage, but it felt odd to read when Gage declared his love. I just didn’t understand how Gage fell in love with Derek so quickly. On the upside, I was completely in love with Matty right from the get-go. Derek is straight-laced, afraid to take a chance. Gage is recovering after losing his dog in a mission when they were marines. As they rescue Matty, a lovely pup Gage finds in the snow, they become close. Gage is open with his feelings, but Derek takes longer getting there. The epilogue is a bit strange because it's 5 years later, but it sounds like it's not. Still, a nice happy ending. Nicely written, shorter than books I usually read. Decent read, but wasn't all there. The author had me leaping ahead without the benefit of scenes that might have enhanced their relationship. Also I felt the PTSD was glossed over when in reality it was paramount to the storyline. Decent read, but wasn't all there. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Quick read. In all honesty I was concerned more about what would happen to than either Derek or Gage. At least until the last few chapters Would have liked a bit more character development before they got together but understandable with it being a shorter story.

Loved this read! I truly loved reading this book! Gage and Derek had a rocky start, but with the help of Matty they were able to see each other for the great men they are. I especially enjoyed the ending of the story showing how their lives evolved.

I've read a handful of MM romances over the years. I try to select ones to read based on a romantic story blurb, reviews and written by good authors - which this is. It's very well written, engaging and interesting and I like the main characters. Plus there's a dog... 3.5 stars. 😍 I've read a handful of MM romances over the years. I read this after I read the second book in the series – so I already had a fondness for these guys – but I definitely wish I’d read them in order. Gage is not your typical “bad boy” but he is a little bit broken and it’s wonderful to see the benefit his new dog friend as well as his developing relationship with Derek has on him. Derek is kind of a jerk for most of this, but his heart slowly opens and he becomes more likable as time passes. The dog, Matty, is always great! Over all this was a very sweet book. No angst but not boring. I didn’t really understand it though. In the beginning Gage thinks Derek is an asshole (which he totally is towards his students) and then all of a sudden Gage has quit Derek’s class so that they can be a couple? Like minutes before he hated the guy. I don’t get it. The dog thing was something I didn’t really understand either. They are OBSESSED with a dog called Matty. m/m Derek Paulson is a veterinarian and a professor of Vet Sciences at the school that former Marine Gage Tackett attends. Brought together over an injured dog and some hot chemistry can the uptight professor and the bad boy student have more than a fling? I love the differences between these two men. This story left me feeling good. This story was previously released in the Campus Cravings: Higher Learning MM Boxed Set
