I received this book for free through a Goodreads giveaway. This is a nice book for kids aged 8 to 12. The poems in this book are ok but the best part of the book is the encouragement for children to create on the page opposite the poems. The first few poems you get colorful pictures to go with the poems. The middle of the book offers outlined pictures for them to color themselves. Then the last few pages offer a free for all for children to draw their own interpretation. It's a good book for any I received this book for free through a Goodreads giveaway. Miriam Kam Weisbrod's children's poetry book is such a wonder to indulge! Splendid ribbons of color splash you with laughter and wrap you up in the whimsical element of imagination; no wonder the book is titled “A Rainbow of Poetry”, and it's crafted exclusively for children! It is evident by the exuberant animation shining through this book that Author Miriam Weisbrod knows a thing or two when it comes to making a child smile. Our young audience of children not only wear smiles on their faces Miriam Kam Weisbrod's children's poetry book is such a wonder to indulge! Our young audience of children not only wear smiles on their faces as we take turns reading each poem, this book has them amped to share their own tales in relation to the poems, thanks to Miriam's wide variety of topics and subjects. For each piece presents itself as a visual verbal illustration in poetic form, which by no surprise, the author states as one of her objectives in this collection! And she isn’t slack in the enthusiasm she applies to her writing one bit. Her charming, fun going, lively spirit reveals the happy countenance that naturally mirrors the jolly nature of her words. One tactic that we love and feel is an excellent strategy to implement in children’s books is a method we nickname the “guess who” strategy (which Miriam uses in her poem entitled “Who Is he?”) Essentially, children’s books are intended to provide a creative and engaged reading experience for the child in order for the content to truly resonate with their fruitful imaginative minds, therefore, through the use of flamboyant symbolic representations, such as “bright red nose”, “a painted face”, “floppy shoes” and “baggy tights”, Miriam’s poetic illustration really stirs up thinking and young readers are easily able to connect the dots and guess who the funny-looking fellow in this poem is; a clown! The visual picture of a colorful clown at the end adds the perfect artful touch! And oh, aren’t clowns a load of fun! But what one single word can possibly infuse any child’s heart with joy, no matter what the time or occasion? Toy! The poem “Toyland” is one of our audience’s personal favorites! As Weisbrod writes, “toyland, toyland, every child’s joy land” and there's surely no denying it! With great detail and enchanting imagery, an abundance of fun playful tools for children, from “Mama bears” to dolls and puppets, the poetic paradise of children’s gifts is a mental getaway any child won't want to miss! Another really neat treat that comes a part of this edition are the “color-me-pages”. Compared to the first section of the book, the drawings that represent each poem in this section are purposefully left blank for the reader to use their imagination and color! We believe this is amazing, as such activities inspire children to become more involved with the poems they are reading, personalizing their experience to individual satisfaction. Highlighting some more favorites, we can’t forget “Duddy and Bow Wow”, for it’s an absolute classic! It is an exceptional sketch of the bond and attachment a child can develop with an animal, typically a first-time pet, which can be an extremely exciting in the world of a child. We enjoyed poems that relive the tale of antique literary traditions like “Jack and Jill”, and also poems that share an enchanting rainbow of poems about butterflies, spiders, fish, lambs, mice, and much more! Some of our kids burst out in cheer, singing the “bakersman” song when reading the “Baker Man”. Without a doubt, the poems in this book are stimulating to young readers and leave our audience with a taste for some good old “jelly” and “raisin” cake, prepared fresh from the baker man! This savory piece had everyone ready for a snack! Another one of Weisbrod’s classic signatures “cherries” appears in the featured “Cherry Tree” poem, a splendid beauty that lets us know exactly why any child will admire the delicious Cherry Tree, producing delightful indulgences such as jam and yummy cherry cake! Then there is the poem entitled, “I Have”, which is the perfect poem for a classroom setting, as it presents the opportunity for everyone to participate, become active, and in our case, even choreograph a fun, quick, and creative dance routine! From trolls to coloring, this book has it all! Children can enjoy poems that explore a wide variety of topics appropriate for the young expeditious and aspiring imagination. And Miriam's effervescent personality is the perfect host as the book's narrator to accompany reader(s) in this amusing interactive poetry composition. In addition to this, Author Weisbrod's graceful voice is conscious of the gentle, yet adventurous world of the youth, and in result, she exerts her tender inclination to entertain and gratify children in this precious, timeless, published work. We're pleased to rate this book with 5 stars and are happy to say that it is an excellent choice for families, classrooms… and just for you! So get your copy today and enjoy reading all of the different shades and colors of the rainbow! Spectacular presentation, Author Miriam Weisbrod!

I received this book through a Goodreads giveaway. The poetry varied in quality with some of the rhyming feeling forced. There was one poem which was so shockingly sexist I had to stop reading it. It talked about how girls grow up to wear makeup and high heeled shoes and how boys grow up and go to college and conquer the world. We did like some of the poems like Little Spider but overall this just wasn't for us.
