DNF at 19%! I honestly can’t get myself to read another page of this book! I’m not interested in the story (if there even is a proper one bc so far it’s basically just been sex scene after sex scene), I don’t feel connected to the characters and I don’t like the way this book is written. In my opinion, the author just threw together every clichè & cringe-worthy sentence you can find in sex scenes of other smutty adult romance books while writing the sex scenes in this one. This book was exactly what I expected... a likeable girl who has a lot of sex with hot dudes. It's not my my typical read, but I was in the mood for something different. I ended up enjoying it and I really like Mia. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series! This book was exactly what I expected... a likeable girl who has a lot of sex with hot dudes. I'm reading this one book a month with BooksEverAfter, but I've got a 3-in-1 book from the library so I'm reading ahead. January ★★☆☆☆ Had to get used to the writing style and the choice of words. It became very Bouquetstyle after that, when she met the guy. I was very underimpressed. But soon, it became interesting, well, a bit addictive to read. I quite like the guy and I'm really curious to how this continues. February ★☆☆☆☆ Hmm, liked the first one better. I like the characters and I like the storyline of this one. I still think the whole idea behind the series is quite meh. (view spoiler)[If she stays with Wes, she gets all the money AND the guy of her dreams, so I think it is a bit stupid stubborn to continue with the plan because she wants to.. If it was the contract as an argument or so, ok, but she really says she wants to continue.. Of course she meets a lot of interesting people but that part is a bit meh to me. Oh and why doesn't Wes just rent her for the rest of the year? BTW, I'm also missing something in the book that has to do with a 28 days cycle in women.. ;) (hide spoiler)] Those are all arguments for me to not like this entire series enough to continue reading. BUT, as I'm reading this with my bookclub BooksEverAfter, we are talking about the first book of those three and this discussion is lovely, really fun to participate. I will see in April how many people are still reading and if the discussions are still as lively as this month, I will continue because it is so much fun to talk about this :)

3.5 Dollface Stars Ok, I totally thought I was going to hate this. I've had this on my shelf for YEARS, but once again, with AE disappearing, I pushed it to the front of my TBR. I gave myself a total out, if I don't like the first, I'll DNF the rest of the series(something I RARELY do). But I'm too invested now. This is a pretty creative timeline and I have to see what kind of scenarios Mia gets herself in. 3.5 Dollface Stars Ok, I totally thought I was going to hate this. I try this book out of curiosity. I was much more repulsed by the hip of this series then seduced, but then I kind of hate being manipulated by marketing and Calendar Girl, with its trendy theme (prostitution, hum? but to save my darling father! oh okay then, quite good, yeah, good girl, carry on) and its prompting to read (and buy) a book a month (clever or not?) didn't appeal to me. But I was curious. I'm usually are. And I could have being wrong! I sometimes have fell for a famous book and I thought that maybe, maybe, the story could have being elaborated like a modern "Pretty woman", hum, pretty please? Of course not. Of course it wasn't. Model in romance seems nowadays to be Fifty Shades, so I probably was really naive (again) to hope for more. But I had to try, to be sure. So I read a few pages of the book. Actually I may have read less than I'm writing here. But sometimes one don't need much stuff to make ones opinion: the writing was an easy flow, with a good introduction, but it was also convincingly very vulgar and quite stupid. Why stupid? Well, when the main character is at once presented as a very clever girl and showing repetitive foolishness, I know that the isn't any chance that I won't loathe her. In particular, the introduction of the book, and the series, is about her four last boyfriends, who deceived and disappointed her: oh really? She chose evidently losers and she's surprised of the result? I'm sorry to be brutal, but a girl who made so silly choices in men shouldn't be surprised of the result. And as the French saying go, "Qui se ressemble s'assemble" (Word Reference's translation: 'birds of a feather flock together', nice!), I wasn't interested - really wasn't, yuk! - by either the story or the main character. Next, please! ^-^

These stories kind of touched me, and i already have a favorite person! I'm not gonna tell who it is, but i really hope he is gonna end up with Mia at the end. The stories were actually a little more different than i expected, but in a good way of course! Wes was the first person, and i had like an insta-crush on him! Alec was a little more sympathetic on an emotional level, and the last two where so adorable, i couldn't contain my excitement! I look forward to book number two!! I like it.. I admit, its not the biggest work ever writing, but I like the premise of the story. I am not to keen on all the erotic stuff (all the time) but.. well yeah I do enjoy the whole setup. Spoiler: I just dont understand Mia, why not stay with Wes instead of insisting on earning the money, like she did have a choice.. Let me set up my grading metrics before I dive in: If you've found your way to the synopsis of this book then you should know exactly what you're in for, so I won't sit here and pretend to grade this book by metrics that do not apply. This is one of those New Adult books, meaning modern day romance along a similar line as 50 Shades. Therefore, I'm not approaching this looking for a unique work of literature; rather, I expected semi amusing minimal plot that makes sense, and hot eye candy with associated 'sexy times'. That's it. I don't want anything else from this book, well maybe a little bit of relationship drama, but aside from that nothing. Nada. That shouldn't be too hard...Carlan, why was that so hard???? I was drawn in by the premise. I secretly (although secret's out now) love a good, 'woman owes money forced to become an escort to pay it off' story. Why? Because I'm in love with the idea of the seedy underworld and the fact that one woman can rise from the ashes to ensnare the hot rich men of the world so they can save her from her trouble. So Calendar Girl was a shoe in for me. But this is where is stops. Problem # 1: What is an escort? I wish Carlan could have gotten everyone on the same page with this one because apparently my definition and our main girl Mia's definition are completely different. So let's turn to the dictionary to settle this one for us. There are many definitions ranging from people used to accompany a person or object to just a straight up prostitute. But let's settle for one in the middle: Escort: 'An Escort is hired as a temporary companion who may or may not be used for sex. Escorts have expenses that enable them to charge higher fees...' Okay, got it. Now remember that as we go along. So Mia's got a giant debt which forces her to join her aunt's escort service in which women are rented out to high paying men monthly for whatever reason they need. The men pay a flat fee for the month along with providing things like clothing and essentials to complete assigned tasks, but are required to pay more if said escort is asked to strip down or engage in coitus which is left to the discretion of the escort. Okay so so far Carlan and the Internet agree so where to we go wrong? Perhaps it's somewhere around the point where Mia sleeps her way through Los Angeles with surfer movie maker Wes after jokingly telling him he has to pay more for sleeping with her. The next thing we know Wes, who signed a professional contract, is following the rules and paying extra for the deed (which he also does after he finds out that she owes money and offered to pay off her entire debt so that she would stay with him), and getting cussed out by Mia because he makes her feel like a whore. She also follows this up by yelling at February's client for the same thing. Okay, so now I'm confused. Mia, do you or do you not have a job that allows you to make money to sleep with different men each month? Do you also not need this money to pay off a gambling debt from your father? Did you also not take this job to make money quickly? This is what I mean when I want things to make sense. I need the main character to remember her goal. I was just fine with a story involving a woman secure enough in sexuality to use it to pay off a loan. Mia also knew that she was going to encounter a new man each month. So which way are we going to go? Are you going to accept the money for the professional/personal choices you made like a grown up and stick to your goals or are you going to go around sleeping with men for free because you like it and ignore the fact that roughly every 3-4 weeks you're in a different person's bed. We can pick one but we can't go back and forth and truthfully I would prefer she just accept the money and be committed to the decision she made. This brings us to problem #2: Mia. Wishy-washy Mia. Unprofessional Mia. At the end of the day Mia you have a job to do and whether or not it requires you to sleep with every client you are there to fulfill their needs. Alec the fine February Frenchman needs an artistic muse. You are there to act as a model/muse. You are there to create art. This is an actual job. And remember Mia you always said you wanted to be an actress, so start emoting and freeze for the camera. Don't stomp off and pout about posing with male models because you've become emotionally invested in your Frenchman weeks after you promised Wes you would come back when the year is done. Don't walk off set and drink wine in the kitchen. You are there to do a job! Since you're upset when people pay you for sex then how about you get paid to work? To model, to act like your a client's girlfriend? If I was any of the men I was request a refund. Immediately. So what are we left with but problem #3: Plot. Now remember I didn't ask for much. I wanted the loan shark drama and her escorting. That's it. So where's Blaine the shark? Missing in action for the majority of the book. In fact he's so off screen that her first payment get forwarded to him by unknown means somewhere between her manicure and Brazilian wax. And when he finally appears she like "here's your money" and he's like "will you sleep with me?" And she's like "no" and he's like "I'll buy you" and she's like "no", end scene. Ugh I wanted so much more drama. And while I do like the idea that he's probably going to be one of the months, I'll take a guess now that he's December and that Wes will have to swoop in and save her, that scene was so useless she mine as well go back to UPSing the money. And aside from that there's no plot. Mia lazes around, half asses her 'job', pouts, interjects herself in other people's business and generally does nothing. Snooze. All Carlan needed to do was have Mia commit to her mission, insert some shady business deals and maybe a brush with danger and it would have been absolutely fine. Instead Calendar Girl: Volume one is boring and repetitive and every once in a while hope shines through but then it rains. Since this is an anthology of months I'll rate is as follows: January: 3.25 stars; February: 2 stars; March: 2.5 stars. Which is a grand total of Calendar Girl: Volume One: 2.5 stars. (And no I did not actually do the math)

Calendar Girl wasn’t a series it was an adventure. A year long adventure of self discovery and fun for the main character, Mia. This series is amazing because it can be binged or it can be read in short snippets by reading a month at a time. The storyline is all the angst and drama filled goodness you want from a Las Vegas setting. Mia is hard to crack. She is a fighter and I really admire her and loved seeing her grow through the year.

3.5 stars Calendar Girl is all about Mia. And how she needs money. Fast. To save her dad from bookies. And the way for her to earn money as fast as possible is to become an escort in her aunt's escort service company... The story was quite fun, but there isn't all that much substance to the characters yet. I will definitely keep reading, though, because there is an overall story arc that is interesting enough to keep me going. 3.5 stars Calendar Girl is all about Mia. And how she needs money. Fast. The scene descriptions are interesting, but the characters are always too handsome and the stories too lucky to be real. This book is indeed made for its target audience: those that just want to read an erotic novel without thinking; not really my cup of tea.

But I am really glad that I read this, because it was so much better than I expected and I was sort of happy to find out that it wasn't just all about sex, there was a point to the story, and I'm guessing to the different parts. I like Mia. She's clumsy, she's stubborn, she's got this idea that she's got to take care of everything - which I understand, but it does tend to undermine especially her sister's character that she can't let them be independent and make mistakes. And she's funny too. This book contains the first 3 parts of the series, aptly named "January", "February" and "March" and I think my favourite thing was, was that the parts were connected, you immediately get that it is one story, which I had a fear wouldn't be the case and that the months would sort of feel like their own disconnected stories. That is not the case and I was sort of impressed with Audrey Carlan's ability to make sure Mia didn't come across as, well to put it bluntly, a whore. As Mia herself says, she's no man's whore. Promiscuous, perhaps, but not a whore. And that's okay. Actually I'm glad that she seems to normal and that she's treated as a normal person both by those she works for but especially by her friends and family. I just found out that Audrey Carlan is coming to BogForum this year, this Danish book expo that I try to attend every year, and I am so excited. Because this story was really good and I'm looking forward to reading the next months. It was funny (yeah, funny, I laughed out loud a couple of times), kind of sad a times, introspective and heartwarming and yes, it was hot too.

I'm torn on my rating. I picked this one up based on recommendations from USA Today. We follow Mia and her foray into the escort service run by her aunt, which is as weird as it sounds. Mia needs to pay off some of her father's debts since he owes so much and was roughed up enough to send him into a coma. So Mia spends one 24 days as an escort to three different men in this volume, which takes her from January through March. January's man is a movie director and he falls head over heels for her. February's guy is a French artist who uses her for a muse. And March's guy is a gay man who needs her to be his fiancé so his family doesn't suspect he's gay. If the book ended after January, I thought it would've been perfect. I couldn't stand the other two stories, and I kept wanting her to go back to the movie guy. Instead, we had to trudge through her two months with the other guys. And then she becomes appalled to find out that she gets paid additional to have sex with these guys?! Um, your aunt told you that, sister. It's part of the contract. Just a weird read overall. I will give volume 2 a chance just to see how it pans out.

This is an enjoyable read except I can't help but think whether Mia will have sex with all of the clients she's going to have in the remaining 9 months. I love her with Wes so it put me off a little when she had sex with Alec. Granted she is an escort but it doesn't say that she needs to sleep with every guy. I just wish that there is a happy ending and that I will not be disappointed at the end. It needs to be Wes and Mia at the end. "Never met a woman who didn't love shoes. All women love f**k-me pumps. Especially sexy, hot-as-hell ones. It's written in our genetic code." I'm not sure what is going on with me. I've been reading so many of these books that I can't get enough. Not sure if I'm growing up or just need more escape in my life from the Cheeto Man. Reading this, this is nowhere near real life scenarios. Escort yes, but the men who paid are 99% never like who she gets. She seems to have luck on her side. Reading this, this is nowhere near real life scenarios. Escort yes, but the men who paid are 99% never like who she gets. She seems to have luck on her side. Mia needs money and a lot of it very quickly. Her drunk of a dad decided to borrow money from some sketchy people to gamble and he lost.... big time. Finding her dad battered and bloody, Mia takes it into her own hands to take care of his mess once again. After their Mom left them at a very young age, this is all Mia knows. To take care of her family by all means necessary. If anything would happen to her younger sister, it would destroy her life. So, she calls the one lady she knows that can help her make a million dollars in a very short period. Her Aunt Millie, who just so happens to run an escort service to the rich and the handsome. (Life doesn't always work that way) In a year she can have her debts paid and go back to worrying about her little sister graduating college and making something better of their lives. The same day that her shots go up on the website is the same day she gets hired and now she is off to Malibu. Meeting her first client on the beach. It was lust at first site and here he comes out of the ocean after surfing and making her jaw drop. Her first client is Wes, a movie writer, director and all around rich spoiled snob. Well, that's the first impression she gets just by seeing his name. He turns out to be the complete opposite and steals her heart. With family dinners, movie premieres and business meetings, Mia has to attend and wear whatever her client bought for her. With them getting closer together, fear sets in as at the end of the month they will be separated due to the contract. Her first ever client and she grew feelings. He gives her an escape, but she can't take it due to paying off her own dads debt. Her next client is in Seattle and he's a painter from France. She is going to be his muse for the month and he is going to show her the beauty of herself. Make her feel the love that she should feel. With long nights and early mornings, being a muse is a lot more work than she thought. But she loves every second of it. Lust is too light of a word for what she thought when she first laid eyes on him. He treats her with love and respect, only doing what she is okay with and she gives him everything. Even things she has never done before. All while thinking about Wes. After finding her true spirit, she heads off to Chicago for job number three. He's an ex-boxer and his family owns Italian restaurants all over the country. She's here to be the fake fiance to show that he is ready to settle down and bring a baby boy into the family for an inheritance. She immediately realizes what she is actually here for and she helps Tony grow along the way. This client actually surprises her. She falls in love with his family and makes friends out of her new client. But Wes is always on the back of her mind. With her fourth month ahead of her, she is off to Boston to be next to an up and coming baseball player. This series is so fantastic. I didn't think I would enjoy something like this and I surprised myself. I think with age, these things just seem to fall into place. It wasn't disgustingly written like some of the other ones I have tried to read. You instantly like all of the characters in this book, it pulls you into their world and enraptures you. It's very addicting and filled with adventure. I can't wait to read more of the series and continue on Mias journey. I'm praying that she leads her way back to Wes!
