Series good so far Okay, still Enjoying Jill and her adventures. I felt this volume was ever so slightly on the slower side this time around, or a bit less peachy round the angles :-) but the general plot around TDO (no spoilers here!) Takes shape slowly. Can't wait to find out more :-) One thing for sure, those volumes are easily devoured in a few hours. Works for me! Series good so far Okay, still Enjoying Jill and her adventures. This series gets funnier and funnier with each volume, I was laughing so hard with the cat scenes in this book I was almost crying. The mystery is a bit more complicated then in previous volumes but that's not why I read the series it's all about the crazy cast of characters. This was, of course, excellent! I really like a mystery that has some fun elements of tongue-in-cheek commentary in it. This series lends itself well in that regard. Grandma is a dangerous witch that one must be careful around as she reads thoughts and has no sense of humor. The twins are a pair of squabbling adults with the mentality and behavior of a couple of teens. Yes, these are fluff reads. The previous books have been heavy on the humor and quirky situations. This one has a more serious mystery to solve. All in all, it was enjoyable but the side characters need to quit asking for "favors". Yes, these are fluff reads. The previous books have been heavy on the humor and quirky situations. Flying through this series fast! I attribute that to the fact that the books are so good. I cannot get enough of the humor, romance, mystery, and drama that is Jill Gooder's life. Jill Gooder is a witch! At least she just recently found out she was one. She also runs her late adoptive father's detective agency. Understandably this becomes difficult as her witch family have decided to visit a number of times, and her Grandmother opened up a yarn / wool shop nearby with an Everlasting Wool subscription available (like Netflix). That and there is a cat in Jill's office... flying a remote control helicopter? (view spoiler)[Definitely liking Mrs. V more this time around, she seems more sensible (especially when she wouldn't let anyone into Jill's office when they were looking or Winky). She's slowly growing into a character that I like, same with Kathy. I felt bad for Kathy this time around as she was having a rough time previously. Winky is by far my favorite character still, I love all his hobbies and projects. Hoping one day he'll find a home in Candlefield and out of that office, I feel bad he's cooped up there all the time. Yep, Things Are Falling Apart - But Jill Is Ready As a Kindle Unlimited subscriber, I am definitely getting my money's worth this month. On a personal note, I am having some (different) medical issues and reading this series is keeping me sane. Although one of my doctors can tell my anxiety as I am ready to jump out of my skin. This series really helps. Grandma is causing Jill no end of trouble. Seriously, how Jill gets away with some of the things she does with grandma is a mystery for the ages. The twins don't make Jill's life easier. The outing for their birthday is a riot. The fall out from their high school reunion is priceless. Winky and his paramour have gone from using semiphores to another mode of communication. I must say cats can be extremely clever (says she with four). Grandma's shop gets Mrs. V all worked up when her bossy older sister comes to visit. As grandma was giving a television interview, she can't prove Jill did anything. But she definitely has suspicions. At the Level Competition, Jill is shocked to see a fellow competitor. However, a competitor of a different type gives Jill fits. This is one that is really helping to bring all the characters together in a hilarious, cohesive group. I am truly looking forward to more!

Maybe I could shed a little clarity on when to use "(Name) and I" or "(Name) and me." So, in the note for page 246 above, "maybe Jack and me could give it" translates to "maybe US could give it." That is obviously NOT what the author wanted to say!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. This one is still wonderful, but so far has been my least favorite. It seemed like there were a lot of cases with a lot of random things and people thrown into this one. She is working on a case involving a man who was stabbed in his apartment elevator, trying to find out why the cake supplier for Cuppy C is providing smashed and blemished cakes, trying to find out what happened to Aunt Lucy's beau (Lester) because he's suddenly gone radio silent, trying to fight off the developer who wants to b This one is still wonderful, but so far has been my least favorite. She is working on a case involving a man who was stabbed in his apartment elevator, trying to find out why the cake supplier for Cuppy C is providing smashed and blemished cakes, trying to find out what happened to Aunt Lucy's beau (Lester) because he's suddenly gone radio silent, trying to fight off the developer who wants to buy her office space, and trying to juggle the 2 men in her life (Drake- wizard, Jack Maxwell-human detective). Drake's brother comes in at the very end and says he took the blame for the crime he (the brother) committed, so she's confused again about what to do with Drake. Jack hired a partner who tried to keep Jack and Jill apart, but by the end he got rid of the partner, thus opening himself up again. She also goes to her twin cousin's 10 year high school reunion with them and meets the guy they both had a crush on, but he is now fat and bald. He is interested in the twins, but they have no interest whatsoever. Additionally, her grandma enters her into a "Levels" contest in which witches from every level compete and one advances all the way to level 6. She did not win, but she made it beyond her level 2 status. As you see, there is just SO much going on in this book and its still just over 200 pages so its a lot to keep up with and jumps around a little. In the very end, you find out that there are murders going on at a bar and grill called Magpie. The last scene of the book is when Jill comes in to her apartment and sees a card on her coffee table congratulating her on her levels test and below it is a picture of a magpie standing in a pool of blood. BUM BUM BUM. I'm reading one of these every day or 2 so I will keep reading until closer to Halloween, but then I think I will be ready for a little break from this series. Its just a lot to keep up with in a short period of time and the side characters pop in and out so briefly that is hard to get to know them and keep track.

For the first time in this series, the murder investigation was actually interesting. And the resolution was also understandable. On the other hand, the quirky side characters weren't their humorous selves. While I found the idea of cats communicating via semaphore amusing, the toy helicopter was pushing it. If humans aren't supposed to notice how smart cats are then a toy helicopter flying back and forth between two buildings is not the way to go. If humans aren't supposed to notice how smart cats are then a toy helicopter flying back and forth between two buildings is not the way to go. The twins were even more annoying than usual (first the thing in the club and then asking Jill to turn their high school sweetheart into a toad), the beanie storyline with Kate has got to stop. These relatives are probably the most egotistical people on the face of the earth. The book, however, introduced one character that (deliberately) topped those three in lieu of annoyance: Sushi, Maxwell's new partner, who apparently wants the detective for herself. Jill wasn't her best either. First, she avoids Drake after finding out that he was one of Daze's ex-clients, without having asked about his crime or giving him the chance to explain. And then there was the garden party thing. Wearing heels to a lawn party is kind of idiotic but there is an easy remedy. Take the shoes off and go barefoot. Why do I have to listen to the complaints about a bad shoewear choice for pages? And why is Jill's first answer to any possible confrontation a (bad) lie and making her escape? If you liked the other ones for because they are entertaining if superficial reads then you are going to like this one. However, the case is better than the humor for a change.

I love the dry sense of humor that the protagonist has in this set of mysteries and by this book you really feel like you’ve grown to know the characters personally. There are a few intriguing long term mysteries going on in the background as well. The only improvement I see would be that there are a few areas where the author provides a recap and there is even one that is a recap of an earlier chapter in this book. Cute, Quirky, Fun .... a great read This is the fourth book I’ve read in this series .... and I’ve really enjoyed every one. The characters in these books make me really smile .... takes me back to reading as a child, when I used to fall for Edin Blyton’s fabulous characters .... and that’s not an easy thing to do .... they are easy to read and simply a joy ... already reaching for the next one!

To Tell the Truth Sometimes the best way to tell the truth is by way of a lie. Or fiction. Having myself recently been the victim of someone who knew so much better than I did what I really needed, I recognized it when in this book. But there is also the generous serving of I want what I want and the heck with anybody else, and the heaping helping of how much mischief can I make this time. All together, this adds up to a delicious treat for the discerning reader.

I do like the thing that the plot doesn't really move very quickly, it's a quite routine, but still it's interesting to read. These books are very light and relaxing, but not daft. So love these books. Living in two different worlds and keeping them apart. The cat now wants a love life. The twins are going to a school reunion. Mrs V has a competition to enter. Grandma has a competition for Jill to enter. And she has her shop to run. Jill has real work on the go and a new detective to cope with. All mad fun !

These are very quick read books! I finished book three and then read the whole of book 4 in one day! (staying up WAY to late to do it). Witch training is going well, Mrs V is filling the office with knit scarves and socks, Winky the cat is up to no good and crimes are being solved. Cute series. Nothing deep here, just fun easy reading.

What a great fun story, full of twists and turns. It is so good at drawing you into the plot , I found that I had to immediately read the next book (I’m now on book 5 and I think there is 37!!!) can’t waste any more time I have to return to Candlefield/Washbridge . Brilliant writing Adele, thank you so much.

This is definitely my favourite of the series so far. We're now starting to learn more about TDO and his/her reach, as well as getting other, non-central reoccurring plots being brought into the story. Looking forward to the next one. Falling apart Things seemed like they were falling apart, but Jill got things back in track and solved many of her cases. I love her crazy family, job, and dare-I-say...love life?? Anyone for some Sushi??

Improving I personally think these first few books could have been released as one. It seems to have taken a long while just to get to know the characters in the stories. Maybe now most of the introductions have been done, they can move on at a deeper level
