A Tweener is non-human, part angel and part devil what makes them a bit unpredictable at times. Astra Q. Phelps is a Tweener who runs a devil and demon locating and destroying business together with her long-time partner Emo, a red-skinned devil with horns ,looking like everyone would imagine a devil to look like. When a cult preacher who has dislogded a devil from his church and now has a devil´s advocate after him hires her, Astra has no clue what she had gotten herself into. After a mysterious call to meet with the advocate what she of course chooses to ignore she gets kidnapped and meets the most gorgeous devil she´d ever seen. Prince Dialle is no average devil but a member of the Royal Devil Court who wants Astra´s help to get back their Queen who was taken by Nerul, the leader of an adversarial Court... I really liked the book! Astra is a snappy heroine (although sometimes her smart-ass remarks are a bit too much for my taste), the setting is interesting and the sexual tension and attraction between Astra and Dialle is sizzling. There are also some interesting secondary characters like Emo, who isn´t what he seems to be, her angel guardian Myra, human Death Detective Raoul and Nerul´s son Prince Nille, a prophecy and (partly gruesome and violent) battles. Fighting her way through all the obstacles in her path Astra´s discovering new magical powers within herself and has to learn very quick how to use them – what made the story not so suspenseful as it could have been in my opinion. With every challenge Astra suddenly gains new powers and saves the day, so I was never really buzzing with excitement what would happen to our heroine. The one thing reducing my reading pleasure was Astra´s overuse of the word "shit" and "Bite me" especially when it was used in a row like "shit shit shit shit shit" to announce a bad situation. Sorry, it was really a nuisance to me! I´m very curious how the relationship between Astra and Dialle will develop in the future and have already bought the next book in the series " Tween a Devil and His Hard Place" and ordered the third book " Tween Heart´s Fire and Devil´s Delight". Note: This book is written in first person!

An interesting take on the division of heaven and hell, with halflings stuck in the middle. Though I'm not sold on the Devil Court theme, Dialle shows great promise, so does Astra's not-quite-as-he-seems partner and friend, Emo. Which is more than I can say about Nialle's development. Talk about waste of an -initially - intriguing character. Nevertheless, I've decided to give give the second book a try. Kindle Unlimited This is definitely one of the best free reads I've had and I've already surged on with book 2. Fantastic world building and a tough chick with a tough job - not helped by the temptation of a wickedly sexy devil. Great character portrayals here including strong supporting characters. I also fell in love with the charmingly witty ditties at the beginning of each chapter. Kindle Unlimited This is definitely one of the best free reads I've had and I've already surged on with book 2. Astra is caught in between. Who will she help? Or will she simply be an emissary between the camps? And what to make of her powers which suddenly flare up? The devil prince wants her in his bed. Astra wants to be in his bed too, but at what cost? And what to make of the prophecy that may in fact imply that he is her fated love? Who will win in this struggle? Good or the devil camp? And who will Astra help? Will she be able to resist her prince? Or will she succumb to his brand of passion? Prepare to awaken the devil in you. Otherwise, I have no explanation for how you can plug into the dark side of a desperate housewife, making her forget chores and relegate her family on the back burner, all for the sake of finishing this little jewel which is ‘TWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL. I read this story in one single day; unfortunately, I couldn’t make it in one single sitting as I wanted, since real life butted in. This is what this book will do to you. Your Good side will lose, and you’ll fall maddeningly in the arms of Dialle, the devil prince, at the time as Astra. You’ll be sucked into their world, you’ll be rooting for them, you’ll hold your breath, scream, rave, cry too...laugh at puns, cry at injustice, melt at magic and love... Rarely has a story captivated me as much as this one has. Ms.Cheever worked magic, there is no other way of stating it. Her magic is potent, realistic yet far-fetched, credible yet unbelievable; her characters lovable and you also want to kick their butt once or twice too! I don’t suppose I’ll come across another one as maddeningly addictive as this one! Hats off, Ms. Cheever! (Review courtesy of Enchanting Reviews)

I really enjoyed this book. I know, I gave it 3 stars, so why didn't I give it more when it was good and I enjoyed reading it? Let me explain. Astra was annoyingly immature and her mouth overrides her brain at every opportunity. Based on how she's able to close her mouth at the end of the last chapter when she speaks with a powerful entity (i don't want to give away the plot or ending), you are shown she's capable of shutting up but apparently only does so for the first time in her life. Based on how she's able to close her mouth at the end of the last chapter when she speaks with a powerful entity (i don't want to give away the plot or ending), you are shown she's capable of shutting up but apparently only does so for the first time in her life. She has one friend other than Emo but only barely tolerates her only visit in the story and is distracted during its entirety. The same said emotions apply to her visit to her sister. Not feeling the love for anybody but herself here. Emo is her friend and employee, but appears to gain much, much more attention from her once she sees another "side" of him. I won't give away details, but once this happens I lose my respect for her because of the obvious feelings she has for Dialle. Is she really that flighty in her love interest? She likes Dialle, she's mad at him, she's mean to him, she likes him, she's intimately close, then mad at him again. You got it. She doesn't know how she feels. Her angel probably loves her but in the book she only smiles at her charge when she's about to do something to her Astra won't like. The rest of the time she presents Astra with a scowl on her face. Her angel smiles at her angel friends, so why doesn't she smile at Astra unless she's going getting a cup of coffee from her or about to annoy her? In the real world her angel might qualify as a frenemy. As far as the rest of the cast of characters goes they were fantastic, well outlined, easy to know, and easy to like or dislike with equal measure. Astra may vanquish evil but the guidelines about where it applies are "iffy". Who determines whether they're to be turned to dust or not? One demon likes your daughter and pays her close, or too close for your comfort, attention in our world and is given a restraining order or put in jail. Apparently in the future you can kill them. There is evil in the world but what's the difference between devils and demons? It was explained about demon and lesser demons but maybe I missed the other definitions. What does Mx. mean when used before a females last name? I know it's to replace what Ms. would be in our time, but again, maybe I missed the definition of the term. Is Astra the only one who has a last name? The language is hard to swallow. To name a few what is the purpose of frunkin', crashin', and hygiene room? A bed is still a bed, a building is still a building, blah, blah, blah. It felt forced as if to further compound that it is indeed another time. If it was to use language that would be more appropriate for a Y/A book, I get it. But then why put in descriptive love scenes and rape/torture? Ok, that's out of the way. I really did like it. The future world is awesomely descriptive and very unique. From the cars to the houses it's entirely unlike anything I've ever read and I loved it. The action was immensely satisfying and was wonderfully written. The humor was fantastic. I was able to get over my dislike of Astra's behavior enough to justify it and write that off as "the way she is before she grows up in later books in the series". I've read enough book series to know that characters change and grow with age and experience. The changes are typically for the better. The book had some editing errors and typos that were easily overlooked but noticed. I personally don't think I will read any further books in the series unless they're free though. That's just me.

Astra meets Dialle cause there is a fight that will ensue in the courts of hell and he needs her help to end it. There mating is not as consensual as it seems and Astra doesn’t realize she’s been betrothed until its too late. Her partner, Emo, who happens to be a devil prince himself almost dies during the fight between the courts but doesn’t; and his true nature is revealed which I believe will become a complication in future books.

Oh so tantalizing From beginning to end I was sucked in to a tantalizing storyline. I gave this book 5 stars because in every chapter I found myself getting drawn in until all my thoughts centered around this storyline. Sam Cheever has proven to be a genius at drawing in readers with her amazingly descriptive characters. I recommend reading this series, it is well worth it.

This was an interesting book with a new perspective of heaven and hell and the associated leaders. The early part of the book was a bit confusing and I never felt I fully understood the distinctions between the warring groups. I understand the need for similarities, double-crossing, and triple-crossing. But when the reader gets confused it's a little much. Genre: Fantasy Romance; My Rating 5 of 5! I loved this book! This is not your typical story of angel versus devil! But things are heating up as Astra is pulled into a battle between the heads of two devil clans as outcast (and really nasty) King Nerul makes a bid to become the next true Devil King over all the devil clans. Astra is also startled to find that she is gaining new, magical powers and strengths that she has to try to learn to use and control pretty much on the fly. And all the while she seems to be entangled in a prophecy that no one wants to fully explain. Astra is highly attracted to the sumptuous Devil Prince Dialle. Add to the mix Nerul’s gorgeous son Devil Prince Nille who is being tortured and used as a pawn. Astra has to fight the attractions while she tries to figure out who she can trust and who are the real enemies. Then there are lots of evil gargoyles and unknown monster creatures attacking Astra. There are also several quirky characters, including Astra’s Angel, Myra., and some of her angel cohorts and an old school cop, Death Detective, Raoul. I liked that the Chapters open with bits of prose to fit what is happening. I really enjoyed Astra’s very human thought processes as she tries to cope with all that is tumbling in her world!! This book is filled with good humor to offset lots of action battles (some pretty gruesome). It is also filled with delectable sexual tension. I definitely enjoyed this futuristic battle! Fun action packed read. I will look forward to the next books in the series!

I also wanted to see less sentences beginning with overused phrases like "somehow, however and suddenly", which I know this author is capable of doing without.

Questionable I really wanted to like this book and I was pretty happy with the first few chapters. The heroine was kickass and there was a mystery to solve. And then Astra went mindless over a pretty face and it became clear the character lacked the balls and the brains to rescue herself. This is all played off as funny but ultimately fell flat to me. I would rather have a character who can protect herself instead of burying her head in the sand and relying on everyone else to fix her problems. I also wasn't feeling the romance, and the sheer level of rape fantasy involved in the storyline was upsetting. In fact, there's a scene where another character is getting raped and all Astra does is watch. Color me judgmental, but that's not ok. And did she think about the poor woman after that scene? Not until she saw her strapped to another altar. I get that some of this story deals in moral ambiguity, the whole devil and angel thing, I just think it was taken too far and didn't make the character someone I want to read about. I guess this book just passed me by.

What a fun fun read. I enjoyed this book so much. Ms. Cheever has a way of keeping her readers laughing and wanting more. This is a futuristic tale that is funny and sexy with a main character, Astra, who is a little sassy. Astra is what is known as a Halfling. She is half good and half bad. Love the humor in this story One of the best things about Sam Cheever's writing is her sense of humor. This isn't a genre I usually read, but her excellent writing kept me turning pages, wondering what trouble Astra would get into next. And get into scrape after scrape is exactly what she did. I loved this book! The only thing I would have to agree with on one of the reviews that got a little annoying was her constant use of "sh*t" and "bite me". Amazing world building I usually put back books that mention angels, except for Singh. This is an amazing job of world building with demons, devils, and angels, humans and halflings. The reader is drawn in like the main character trying to figure out friend from foe. Though she is used as a pawn in this first book, she is a power in her own right. The romance is intriguing as you are never sure if she is desired for her power or her self. Demon princes have never sounded so good. Hmmmm. Decent book but it left me feeling like I wanted more back story/ history. There was lots and lots of action though. There really wasn't enough substance for me to get connected with most of the characters. Heck I don't know if I really connected with the lead.... There was plenty of wit which was nice, good humor. I gave it one star for humor, one for interesting story idea, one for it being well written even though it's not one of my favorites. Hmmmm. This book is set in the future and our heroine is a halfling (part demon and part angel). She fights for the side of good and her partner is a demon. She is asked by the angels to help as there is a demon war brewing. A demon prince can talk to her in her mind and wants her to help him. There are twists and turns and a few suprises along the way. I enjoyed the heroines humor and word choices at times. I look forward to reading the rest in this series.

I received a copy of Bedeviled & Beguiled (Bedeviled & Beyond #1) or an honest review. I found Bedeviled & Beguiled by Sam Cheever to be a cheekily written witty paranormal tale. Futuristic take on the world as it could be with forces of both good and evil vying for supremacy. An honest and humorous realist viewpoint in an alternate world. Awesome characters to enjoy and chortle with.

Gritty UF So Astra is a tough as nails woman making her way in a fallen world. This world is pretty complex and not all of it has been explored but it was new and interesting. I can't get a good read on Dialle but I'm sure more will be revealed as the series continues. There is some romance but tons of action, mystery and friendship. I really liked this book a lot more than I anticipated! I usually don't go for futuristic novels, but this was free, and I was away on vacation, so I loaded this one up on a whim. I almost couldn't put the book down! I really liked this book a lot more than I anticipated!
