I highly recommend this book for anyone diagnosed with cancer. I'm on my very own cancer journey right now. I could relate with author Venita McCart with so many issues that she faced. I loved her insights. I loved the stories she shared. Why? Because I know I am not alone while fighting my battle. What touched my heart the most, is the fact that she stresses a relationship with God. God has been with me from day one. I draw my strength from Him. Do I have perfect days? Hardly! Thank you, Venita McCart, for sharing your journey, your stories, and your insights with those traveling this tough road. I plan to share my book with a dear friend in my church who is struggling with the cancer journey too. God Bless You!

Good read for either cancer patients or their friends and loved ones. Practical advice. You need to read between the lines some, but this isn't a boring textbook or instructional pamplet. The personal stories about real people help the book keep what the sub-title promises. Like that. Good read for either cancer patients or their friends and loved ones. Practical advice. McCart shares openly about her own amazing experiences with a dreaded disease that could have taken her life. Cancer. She realizes loved ones and friends feel less than prepared to understand and help after the diagnosis. She recognizes the fear that can immobilize a patient; the helplessness to imagine a future; and the need for patients to be well-informed so they can work with their doctor and caregivers. “Understanding will help you to direct your future, rather than permit cancer to direct McCart shares openly about her own amazing experiences with a dreaded disease that could have taken her life. Cancer. She realizes loved ones and friends feel less than prepared to understand and help after the diagnosis. She recognizes the fear that can immobilize a patient; the helplessness to imagine a future; and the need for patients to be well-informed so they can work with their doctor and caregivers. “Understanding will help you to direct your future, rather than permit cancer to direct you.” In co-operation with the American Cancer Society, McCart visits patients in various stages of the disease and leads several support groups. Complete strangers contact her to visit and encourage their family or friends. Numerous people shared their experiences for the book to show how they learned to focus on constructive ways to face this illness. Without any pressure, McCart includes her connection with faith and a God who really does care for those who are suffering. Not only is this an excellent gift for those walking the road of cancer and treatment, but this read will infuse hope in those experiencing any major illness.
