I really enjoy The Sisters, Texas stories. In this second book, Madison gets herself into the middle of another murder investigation and almost doesn't live through it. And this goes along with all the other interesting things going on in her life. The story keeps you going. You simply want to know how all these things work out. There were a few typos, but it did not stop the flow of the story. And, of coarse, you have to read book 3 to continue the story. Unfortunately, Madison can only see the second person's back and can't tell who it is. When Caress goes down, but does not get back up, Madison fears that something is wrong and calls 9-1-1. It turns out that Caress is dead. Madison is then hired by Darla Mullins to fill in for one of her assistants who is out of the office. While working for Darla, Madison has several encounters with an unknown person in a trench coat. Who killed Caress? Who was she arguing with? Who is the person in the trench coat? Can Madison figure out who is threatening her and solve the mystery of who killed Caress? Becki Willis has another winner with this installment of The Sisters, Texas Mystery series. The characters and situations are vivid and very realistic. There is plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing clear to the end.

Great cozy mystery From the first page I knew I was going to like this book. A light read that is funny, and has family values, romance, mystery. Even a house to be renovated! And is very well written. Becki Willis is now on my list of favorite authors.

When the Stars Fall is a fast paced mystery with a lot of twists and turns. Madison is a widowed 39 year old mother of teenage twins who is trying to make a living. Once again the characters of The Sisters, Texas have won my heart. When the Stars Fall was even better than Chicken Scratch! I hope this series is intended to be a long one. I really like the new character, Derron and look forward to seeing more of him. I think he will proved another good balance to Maddy. I can't wait to see were things go in the next book, what a wonderful set up! I was sad to see her insecurity affecting her connection with Brash but I love that they are moving forward. It will be interesting to see if Nick has an impact on the relationship; he definitely could. For those of you looking at that potential relationship for Genny, it took a step too. That one is going to take time though.

Chicken Scratch #1 - This is my first book by this author and I was greatly surprised at how well written, well thought out and laced with humor and intrigue; this little gem is packed. The area is near and dear to my heart since I was born in the area. The people, while not as easily identifiable as in a Jeff Abbott novel, are locals I know. The Texas speak is just as if Ms. Willis and I were at the Creamery (TAMU) sharing milk shakes and local gossip. The kinks and knots in the plot made it hard to put down the book, even to get a tea refill. You can't help but like the characters and root for them. The story, filled with life stories, is actually pretty substantial, not fluff, and Ms. W is an entertaining storyteller. 5* When The Stars Fall #2 - This book is better than Chicken Scratch (#1), which is a good book, too. A lot of suspense, along with developing romances amongst several characters, keeps the reader immersed in this substantial story. Like the first book, the baddie is easily figured out, but the story is well worth reading. There are too many of the well rounded, well developed characters to shout out separately, but they're all interesting, funny, sincere and just plain folk. The Big House becomes a prominent character and helps the family with a huge change to their lives, maybe. Not a cliffhanger, but there's a tease about the future of Big and Madison. 5* Stipulations and Complications #3 - This is a heavy, suspense filled book full of dark secrets and mysteries with the past and the present colliding and the darkness is felt by all involved. Yet, there's plenty of good and love along with the humor. This intriguing, substantial read is hard to put down with its interesting storylines and well thought out characters. This book is on the level with DeMille, Follette, Grisham and Ludlum. 5* Home Again: Starting Over #4 - Amen Sister to that comment about Texans and wannabes! This series must be read in order; they keep getting better and better. I love the fact that what happens in the earlier books are just slightly mentioned, instead of being retold. All the characters keep growing and their past and secrets coming to light as the books go on. Multiple storylines in this book and the twists and surprises just keep the reader glued to the pages. I've chain read the first four books and don't have the next two available to me. But I'm diving into book seven, the newly released The Lilac Code. 5* The Lilac Code #7 - Trouble even finds them outside of Texas! I missed the two books before this one, but it was still an interesting read. I was disappointed with the ending - the gun in her hand was forgotten. But the pages were full of intrigue and suspense, and the characters were intense. Again, there were multiple stories occurring, along with the main story. Current events were featured, which isn't surprising with all that's happened in Texas and other U.S. locations in the past year alone. While not a cliffhanger, there's definitely more books in the future. I chain read five books in three days and never once was bored with this series. 5*

When the Stars Fall by Becki Willis is just as entertaining as the first book in this series, Chicken Scratch. You certainly don't have to read these books in order, but if you want to appreciate the evolving characterization and watch the relationships unfold, then reading them in order is highly recommended. For such a small town, Juliet, Texas, sure has a lot going on: celebrities, flourishing romances, a home makeover reality show, scrumptious food coming from Genny's cafe, and a brutal crime When the Stars Fall by Becki Willis is just as entertaining as the first book in this series, Chicken Scratch. You certainly don't have to read these books in order, but if you want to appreciate the evolving characterization and watch the relationships unfold, then reading them in order is highly recommended. For such a small town, Juliet, Texas, sure has a lot going on: celebrities, flourishing romances, a home makeover reality show, scrumptious food coming from Genny's cafe, and a brutal crime of passion. Maddy Reynolds is once again embroiled in a murder, but who did it and why? But before the murder even takes place, the action shoots out of the gate the minute George Gail hires Maddy to spy on her husband because she suspects him of having an affair. Maddy quickly finds herself in way over her head, but she needs the money, so she adds amateur sleuth and private investigator to her job description for In a Pinch Temporary Services. Becki Willis gives every character the all-star treatment in When the Stars Fall. George Gail and Derron Mullins are great examples of the author's wonderful characterization skills because she meticulously builds in quirky details that make each character memorable, unique, and quite entertaining. The murder mystery in book 2 has Maddy stymied, but that doesn't mean our sleuth won't eventually stumble upon the truth, hopefully without becoming a victim herself. There's a killer on the loose, and it's not who you expect. On a lighter note, romances are heating up in When the Stars Fall, especially when Genesis Baker throws a humdinger of a St. Valentine's Day party at her cafe. Looks like Cupid's arrows are finding their mark.

That sentence that threw me out of the story? "As they stepped out the door she and Brash arrived through over an hour ago, she was momentarily stunned..." Yeah, so was I. So much so, that I had to read it 3 times before it clicked with me. There was also one colloquialism that threw me a little. The story, of course, takes place in Texas. And Texas is quite a large state. My sons lived in a small town on the gulf side of Texas for about a decade, and I visited there while they were down there, although there was never an occasion that would have called for this colloquialism, so I don't know if it's common in Texas, or what. That was "whitey-tighties." Here in Indiana we say tighty-whities. So, I doubt it was an error, just the difference in colloquial sayings between Texas and Indiana. Otherwise, the book zipped along, with Maddy making her usual bad decisions, showing her distrust of all males, and her unreasonable jealousy (really not an attractive feature) and the rest of the cast adding the laughs, color, and suspense. Although I'll probably read a couple of other novels before going back for the third in this series, I will be reading it later this summer.

It's hard to keep from bragging of the brilliance of this plot, but I don't want to give anything away! The depth and angles were by far my favorite part. I got tangled in the many pieces so much so that I was blindsided by the ending, which is the biggest compliment to any story. The only instance where I will ever be asked to please blindside me, so well done Becki Willis, this was fantastic and an extremely enjoyable read.

A brilliant sophomore outing Becki Willis really found her stride with the second book in her The Sisters, Texas series. Madison, our broke(n) heroine is in over her head yet again, but this time is so much juicier than the last. Every page is fun, shocking, tear-jerking, or romantically exciting, making it incredibly hard to put down. By the end of the book, you're invested not only in Madison's life, but the future of The Sisters as well. Truly a series to let yourself fall for. Worth Reading Another good story but I'm getting a little tired of how Maddie is treating Brash. I know she had problems with her husband though we don't know the details but enough is enough! She hears something and runs with it before asking Brash and its happened too many times. I'm hoping they get together but can't blame him for being wary. I also hope I'm right on where Genesis' relationship is heading. Although I'm irritated at Maddie, I'll definitely be reading more in this series. This should be a 3.5 for shear fun! Another fun one about the 2 towns deveolped next door to each other by 2 sisters - each twin sis jealous of the other. Madison, the main character is a widowed mom of owins with no money trying to scratch 9out a living doing temp work. Meanwhile there are dark deeds ocurring: murder, and threats and a house that needs rehab and a bit of romance, and a bit about single moms and very active 80 year olds- this is a cozy with great charactes and a bit of zaniness.

Delightful! Enjoyed Chicken Scratch and this was even better. The characters were so real and their storylines carried mysteries that kept the pages turning. Renovating an old mansion for a TV show with the possibility of more has peaked my interest. I will definitely be reading book 3. Becki Willis is an author I trust to deliver a great read, mystery and a little romance make a winning combination.

Promising Series The first book of this series was good enough to make me read the second one and now move on to # 3. The characters are likable and the setting is in a small town in Texas with an interesting past. Mix this with a little mystery and romance and it all comes together for an easy and enjoyable read !

Murder, mayhem and possibly love Madly gets herself into many scrapes with the jobs she takes. Secretary, private detective, peeping Tom. With the help from the Chief of police, her best friend Genny, and the the TV show regarding remodeling the Big House, this has been great read.

From the first page I knew I was going to like this book. A light read that is funny, and has family values, romance, mystery. Even a house to be renovated! And is very well written. Becki Willis is now on my list of favorite authors

Fun Read! I enjoyed the development of the characters that we met in Chicken Scratch. Maddy seems to get herself into deadly and unusual situations. This novel was one that I couldn't put down, and I'm anxious to start the next Sisters book. Fun Read! I enjoyed the development of the characters that we met in Chicken Scratch. Better and better! Becky Willis' The Sisters series is more addictive than potato chips. I am going back for the third in a series of this wonderful, wacky town of eccentrics. Can't wait to see what happens next! Better and better! Becky Willis' The Sisters series is more addictive than potato chips.
