Chakras are a series of seven energy centers running from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Each one operates as a hub for the vital energy that flows through the human body, and is important to certain aspects of personal well-being, such as remaining clam, sexual energy, and an open mind. This comprehensive guide explains the seven major chakras in-depth, as Chakras are a series of seven energy centers running from the base of the spine to the top of the head. This really isn’t a book you read. I read through it once just to see what it was all about but it’s really a work book. It helps you move through your chakras, opening and balancing them. And lastly gives you yoga moves to try (let me just say, the meditations are easily but only someone skilled in yoga are doing these moves. They’re not for beginners) So now I need to sit down and work the book. I can’t say that it’s helpful since I need to try it but I thought the book was well put together, beautifully illustrated and takes the meditations seriously but not overly so. It doesn’t have that fru-fru feeling some new age/spiritual books can get. I felt very comfortable with this book.

I think the study of the body's chakras as well as the meditations that are desgined to enhance each of these energy centers are so interesting. I have read several books on chakra meditation, and this slim, but information-packed, volume is one of the nicest I have found. I have read several books on chakra meditation, and this slim, but information-packed, volume is one of the nicest I have found. The book is particulary appealing because of its brillantly colored art work. Each chapter is dedicated to one of the seven chakras, and each contains an intriguing drawing that is meant to stimulate visually the various chakra meditation it accompanies through the various imagery--colors, animals, shapes, and Sanskrit symbols that mean different inspirational words and mantras. The meditations are described in detail. Some deal with the recharging of the chakra energies themselves and others focus on the element that rules a specific chakra. For example, a fire meditation, which is performed in the presence of a fire or burning candles, is described in Chapter 3 on the solar plexus chakra (75). A quote I especially like from Chapter 4 on the heart chakra is "If you are finding it hard to emotionally disconnect from people who have hurt you, it can help to know that letting go does not absolve these peole from the future consequences of their actions: karma will win out. Once you let go of this hurt, it will be replaced by a sense of the inter-relatedness of all life"(94). This statement is followed by a description of an interesting meditation called "Untying Knots Visualization," (95), which helps a person see him/herself unraveling and letting go of troublesome feelings or resentments. The book also contains lists of specific kinds of incense, essential oils, crystals, gems, flowers and foods that stimulate or unblock each kind of chakra energy.

This excellent book not only gives a great overview of chakra theories but also provides several strategies for balancing chakra energy through meditation, asana, pranayama, and other yogic practices. In addition to the seven chakras commonly taught, this book also explains the "minor chakras," such as the tortoise and soma chakras, and provides an introduction to concepts like the nadis, koshas, and prana. The illustrations are exceptionally helpful; I recommend the print version of this book (rather than digital) for that reason. The colorful yantra illustrations could be very useful for individual meditation or for working with private yoga students. The book explains Sanskrit language and Ayurvedic, yogic, and Hindu concepts in language that is easy to understand, and, thus, to incorporate as new knowledge. I have bookmarked several pages to return to in my own practice and in my work with yoga students, and I expect that this book will become a reference guide to me for many years to come. In her book, Swami Saradananda consolidates useful information, synthesizing it in a well-organized, compact, and easy-to-use tool for both students and teachers of yoga and meditation. Highly recommended!

I was required to purchase this book for my yoga teacher training several years ago, and did not give it much attention then. This year, when I actually started teaching regularly at my home studio, I used this book to plan week-by-week yoga practices that focused on one chakra at a time. I typically used a reading from the chapter intro, one of the guided meditations, some of the asanas associated with each chakra from the end of the chapter, and an essential oil based on the recommendations at I was required to purchase this book for my yoga teacher training several years ago, and did not give it much attention then. A beautifully illustrated book! This book is ideal for those on their yoga journey who have an established meditation practice and want to take it deeper OR for those who want to commit to a meditation practice (the meditations are not hard; however, require a commitment of time and focus) (one reason I suppose it took me so long to finish the book). The chakras are explained in easy to understand terms. The introduction provides a solid overview of the major and minor chakras, how they work, the three bodies, breathing exercises and kundalini energy. It also includes specific yoga poses for each of the chakras. I was a bit disappointed there was no concluding chapter to summarize the journey through the book.

I've been trying to concentrate on learning about chakras for years. Recently starting a yoga practice gave me the push I needed to focus. This was definitely worth the read, it took me a while but Swami goes into great detail in layman's terms to help the reader understand appropriately. I'll reference this book whenever I have questions, the information had a good flow and easy to read stature. I've been trying to concentrate on learning about chakras for years. This is a very exhaustive book on how to activate and enhance the functioning of your chakras with prescribed meditations. Like everything else, this requires application and practice to have the maximum benefit. Just reading the book won't help. I enjoyed how this explained each chakra and broke down a meditation process for each one as well. I also liked how they included the uses of stones , oils, etc. for meditation.

This is an amazing book to learn about healing yourself or your loved one through chakra healing. I’ve tried its remedies on myself & my siblings and it really works. Absolutely loved it and thanks to the author for making such a complicated subject so easy to understand.

This is my first real research (other than taking meditation classes) involving the chakras. The format of this book is fantastic! Easy to understand, super colorful, and a great study tool. I love how I can skip through the chapters to read exactly what I am curious about. The book offers enlightening insight to the mind-body connection and how to heal our imbalances through movement, meditation and food.

It is more of a workbook, but I wanted to read through it before I just focused on learning about any one chakra. Each chapter had a lot of great insights not only on understanding that particular chakra, but different meditation skills and good asanas to work with that particular energy. Very interesting and insightful.

Each chakra corresponds to emotional and spiritual issues and challenges. Together they represent a wide spectrum of energetic frequencies, with each corresponding to different stages of development that you travel through on your pilgrimage of life.
