A depressed young boy, named Wade Owen Watts, often wants to be in a virtual world than real (like others) to escape the terrible life affected by overpopulation, unemployment, energy shortages and other issues. He used to log on to a 'virtual reality multiplayer video game' called 'The Oasis', where any one can become what they want in a virtual reality. One day in 2039 this VR game 'Oasis' founder billionaire James Halliday (he calls himself as Anorak) dies suffering from cancer, without s heir. His will... a video called “Anorak’s Invitation” is released after his death. In this video, Halliday challenges all Oasis players to hunt his treasure called 'Easter Egg' within 'The Oasis', finding 3 keys and unlock 3 gates, by solving 1980s related riddles, puzzles, clues, scattered throughout his creation... a game within the game! The first person who solves all these various riddles, finds 3 keys and hunts Halliday's easter egg will inherit his entire estate/fortune. On hearing this contest, Wade Watts gets into action...started searching for clues in the Oasis. After 5 years of playing as his avatar Parzival (his Oasis name), Watts finds the first key, the Copper Key, inside the Tomb of Horrors. There he meets Art3mis, a young blogger/warrior latter his love interest...heroine of this novel. (Her real world name is Samantha Evelyn Cook). Wade Watts bonds with Art3mis and three other avatars/gunters/egg hunters. They become known as the High Five. (Characters are called avatars in oasis game world and they don't know each other). With the excitement of finding the 1st key, Wade Watts starts a race for the easter egg. This results in his struggles/adventures with his corporate rivals, who plan to kill him, for the information he has. His rivals will go to any lengths to get the money... both in the real world and in the virtual world Oasis... which leads to the change in Watt's life forever. Warner Brothers got the rights of filming this novel. The movie is to be directed and produced by Steven Spielberg, screen play by the author himself and will be released on 30th March 2018.

A good old-fashioned sci-fi story. Very enjoyable. Now I should pick up the next book in the series!

The book Ready Player One is the best book I have ever read. I give this book five stars. Ernest Cline did an amazing job at making the main character (Wade) easy to connect to. From there I ducked, clambered, and sidestepped my way farther and farther into the ramshackle mountain of twisted metal”.-page 24. This book details every kid’s fantasy, a rags to riches story taking place almost entirely within a virtual video game world. Wade is a clever, enterprising, focused young man, obsessed with winning, whose diligence pays off in the end. Who wouldn’t want to be Wade? I highly recommend this book.

I really do not read much science fiction. Actually, I only read science fiction when I am forced to read it (usually at the suggestion of my friend, Belinda)! One of the many wonderful perks of being part of a book club (or three book clubs!) is that you read books that you may never have read otherwise. This is one of those books. This book is futuristic. This book is about 80s trivia. This book is about video games. And I highly recommend it...even if you do not like futuristic stories or 80s I really do not read much science fiction. You need to be pretty keen on 80's culture to get the most out of this book - I am, so no problem, but I was still amazed by how much difference there was between US 80's and UK/Scotland 80's. Kept my interest all the way through, and despite some tricky moments it was ultimately a satisfying and enjoyable read!
