From characters who are a little bit broken to relationships that hold your heart, Fossen has it all in this cast of characters. I loved how everyone was so real. No one was perfect, yet everyone was perfectly themselves. The entire cast was a blast to get to know, but the main characters were by far the best. Claire’s indecision and doubt cause havoc in her personal life, creating a one of a kind story that had me laughing and crying in turns. Beneath it all, her caring heart shone, making me love her all the more. Riley’s warrior attitude, combined with him coming to grips with his new reality truly created a hero to love. As a whole, this was a fantastic novel. I easily lost myself in this story, never able to forget the fantastic manner in which Fossen painted this world. And even though Riley was hot, Claire felt his friend was the safer choice. Claire is in Spring Hill with her young son packing up her late grandmother's house and dealing with her own demons from childhood. As Riley and Claire help each other, they realize the depth of their own feelings for one another. This story is wonderful. The characters are so human that you can't help but be drawn in. The story has such a natural flow to it that you feel like you're reading about friends you've known forever. The dialogue is clever and witty. I found myself chuckling aloud every time a character inserted a creative substitution for curse words to prevent Claire's son from repeating them. There wasn't a single character that I didn't like. I can't wait to read more in this series and hear the other characters' stories. Ms. Fossen must have known that would be the case because this book features a bonus story about Riley's sister Anna! I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. How did I get so lucky?

I've long enjoyed Ms. Fossen's books for Harlequin Intrigue, but she has a wonderful voice for single title contemporary romance, too! Claire and Riley were okay. Daniel, Trisha (someone who had the hots for Riley), and Jodi (another someone who had the hots for Riley) were meh characters that were just annoying after awhile. Neither understood the word "no." I also thought the whole plot-line regarding Ethan (Claire's son) were weird. Good second chance/friends to lovers story. Riley has come home to Spring Hill to recover from injuries received in the war. He just wants peace and quiet to do so, but discovers that every single woman in town is determined to be the one to help him. The only one whose attention he wants, Claire, is his childhood friend, but she chose his best friend, making her off limits to him. However, there is a spark between them that cannot be denied. Claire has always had a thing for Riley, but he was determined to put Spring Hill behind him and do something more with his life. Thanks to her somewhat turbulent childhood, she only wants to have a permanent home with a husband that is there for her. So she picked their friend Daniel as the one more likely to give her what she needed. But when it comes to her final choice, will her heart or her head take the day? I liked Riley a lot, even though he was a bit stubborn about his "man rules". His calling was to help people, and he did that by becoming a combat rescue officer. His most recent mission ended up with him badly injured, as well as haunted by some of the things that happened. He is on medical leave, where he has a certain amount of time to get back to full strength, or risk losing the career that defines him. He wants Claire, but his rules put her out of reach, so he tries to keep things in the friend zone. I liked Claire too, although she occasionally frustrated me. She is back in Spring Hill with her two year old son, to clear out her late grandmother's house and get it ready to sell. Her relationship with Daniel has been on-again, off-again, and he is currently pushing for her to marry him. Seeing Riley again brings back all her old feelings and creates a conflict for her. She wants Riley, but knows he'll be leaving again, whereas Daniel offers her the stability she craves. I really liked the development of their relationship. Because they've known each other so long, they are aware of each other's baggage. I loved seeing how Claire was so tuned in to Riley's struggles, especially his flashbacks. She always seemed to know just what to do to bring him out of them. Riley knows all about Claire's childhood, and is there for her as she faces some of her demons while she clears her grandmother's house. It was great to see that having Riley there gave Claire some of the strength she needed to deal with Daniel. Claire decided it was time to go after what she wanted from Riley, even if she was sure that she was going to end up hurting at the end. It took a little effort to overcome Riley's objections, but eventually he gave in to his own desires. This brought them closer, though both try to deny their true feelings. I loved Riley's surprise when he finally realized what was happening between them. The ending was sweet and romantic with a touch of humor thanks to Claire's son. I loved Claire's son Ethan. He was adorable, and pretty typical of his age. I really liked the way he took to Riley, and found it funny that it just fed the town gossip mill. It was very telling to see the differences in the way he reacted to both Riley and Daniel. I loved the potty training scenes, and Riley's solution. The relationship between Riley and Claire was complicated by three people - Daniel, Trisha and Jodi. I especially disliked Daniel. He was very close to being a bully in my opinion, in the way he treated Ethan and refused to take no for an answer from Claire. Trisha was one of the women who was trying to snag Riley for herself. Her interference in Claire's and Riley's lives seemed intent on making trouble between them. Jodi was a woman that Riley had had a kind of relationship with. Her appearance in Spring Hill came at a really bad time. She, too, had some issues letting go. It was funny to see what happened when the three of them came together. I also enjoyed getting to know both Logan and Lucky a little better. Lucky is the wild brother, who travels the rodeo circuit and is a ladies man. I liked the way that Lucky was there for Riley during his visits to the base. It was interesting to see the relationship between him and his twin brother Logan. Logan is the oldest and the one that took over the family business and has made it successful. It's obvious that he really wants both Lucky and Riley back home, but doesn't know how to fix their relationships and make it happen. It will be interesting to read their stories and see what drives them.

I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review and here it is. 5 stars. This is the first novel I've read by this author and also the first novel in her Spring Hill series, and I'm glad that it's both, because there's nothing quite like really enjoying the heck out of a novel written by a new-to-you author and knowing that there are more good novels to follow. This is the first novel I've read by this author and also the first novel in her Spring Hill series, and I'm glad that it's both, because there's nothing quite like really enjoying the heck out of a novel written by a new-to-you author and knowing that there are more good novels to follow. Air Force Captain Riley McCord has returned home after being wounded during a rescue operation, and, as is the case with many returning military personnel, he has the PTSD to prove it. He needs time to heal and receive physical therapy so he can return to active duty. Unlike Riley, his twin brothers, Logan and Lucky, chose different paths. Logan is running a cattle brokership, Lucky is on the rodeo circuit, and I'm sure they'll star in their own novels too, as will their sister Anne, as this series continues. To say that the McCord brothers receive lots of female attention is putting it mildly, and Riley is soon besieged by the available women in town almost as soon as word gets out that's he's back--and gossip travels as fast as lightning in Spring Hill. But the person who gets to really listen to Riley, and to help him heal, is his old and dear friend, Claire, who only recently returned to Spring Hill after her grandmother's death in order to clear out her gran's belongings, make necessary repairs to the house and put the house on the market. Claire has not arrived alone--her 2-year-old son, Ethan, is with her, and he looks remarkably like Riley, as well as resembling Riley's twin brothers, Logan and Lucky, and Claire isn't saying a word about who fathered her son, which doesn't stop or even slow down the town rumor mill. Back when Riley and Claire were in high school, she chose Riley's then best friend, Daniel, over him, knowing that Riley planned to enlist and leave town as soon as he graduated. Claire, who was raised by her maternal grandmother after her mother abandoned her, was seeking stability, a husband, a white picket fence, children, etc., and although she and Daniel haven't yet tied the knot, he's proposed marriage and she's requested more time to consider it. According to Riley and Daniel's well-established man-rules, that makes Claire off limits to Riley--but is she really? It's a rocky road to romance in Spring Hill, especially with the local gossip mill working overtime, friends and family members sticking their noses into every part of their lives as these two wounded people come to grips with what's really important. As someone who's moved from the city to a small, rural town, I found much of goings-on rather funny and true to life, and I empathized with Claire's need to help Riley and yet keep her heart safe, even though it's Riley she's always wanted. When she offers Riley a no-strings sexual relationship, things certainly heat up, but he still wants to return to the military and she's not sure how she'll survive if he does. Yes, there's emotional angst, and yes, there's a HEA ending, and yes, it had me in tears, but I've always viewed that as the sign of terrific writer. Don't miss this one! I cannot wait to read the next books in this series.

Seeing her again is tearing him apart, knowing she has a son that isn’t his is about to kill him. Claire is there when he wakes up after coming home late to find all these women asleep all over his house. At first sight they are right back like they were before he left in the easy world of humor, love and laughter. Claire has more than one man after her heart which has always belonged to Riley. Daniel is still very much in the picture and demanding she marry him. Claire just wants to be happy have a loving home and family. All the reason is still the same from years ago when she picked Daniel but with Riley home can she turn away from the attraction and passion coming off them. The time has come to pick one or the other. Who will she pick? Riley is in a lot of pain and just wants to be left alone. There seem to be woman every where each time he turns around that wants to help him through his pain and give a little more TLC than is needed. He only has eyes for Claire but Daniel and these other women keep getting in the way. Why is everyone asking him if Claire’s son is his? He must have some answers and hope maybe just maybe he will win the girl this time. The author gives you a fun loving funny story which will keep you laughing and also make you want to cry. You can feel the pain and the passion of these characters as your heart goes out to them. The chemistry is strong and will burn up your pages. The supporting characters are just as great as the main. I didn’t care too much for Daniel he is to controlling there are a few ladies I am not too crazy about either but that is how the author wants you to feel. They bring so much entertainment to this story. There will be fights, crazy women, and hot women along with hot men. Riley’s family is a trip I laughed so hard at them. I just loved his brothers and can’t wait to read their story. The author spins a little mystery as she puts some major twist to give you a highly entertaining read. This has a wonderful plot where the words flow easy. Once you read this you will know why she is a bestseller as she gives you a fun tension fill read filled with romance like you haven’t seen. I highly recommend you pick this up and I know you will love it as much as I have.

I can’t recommend this series enough! I laughed, I cried, I often shouted “hell, yeah” or “ohhhhh, hell no”, and hope the following review will encourage you take the journey with all 3 sexy and charming McCord brothers. In ‘Texas on My Mind’, the courageous and HOT Air Force CRO, Riley, suffers from injuries of his latest overseas mission and is sent home on mandatory leave to recover. When he reunites with single mother Claire Davidson, who also returned to Spring Hill to oversee her recently deceased grandmother’s estate, the heat and chemistry between these two pick up right where they left off 10 years ago. Riley and Claire both come with baggage. I loved watching these two maneuver through a shocking journal, bar fights, a young son that looks eerily like Riley, ex’s that can’t catch a clue, nightmarish mission flashbacks, and career decisions that will no doubt change their futures. Riley and Claire start this series off with layers of passion and loads of heart leading you to follow his older brother Lucky’s own bumpy ride! ENJOY!

Rule one is do not take someone who belongs to another. Claire is the someone and Daniel is the one everyone except Clair thinks belongs to him. Daniel expects Riley to keep hands off of Claire. This is a great set up to the story. Riley and Claire have been attracted to each other for years but because of the rules nothing has every happened. Add in Claire’s cute son, Ethan, who looks just like Riley and you have another twist. Everyone thinks he is Riley’s but he is not. Oh and of course there is the fact that Riley does not plan to stay. The plot thickens from there. I enjoyed meeting all three of the McCord’s. While Riley is the main male character both Lucky and Logan make appearances in Texas on My Mind. Both are interesting and will make great main characters in the next two books in the series. I also loved Riley's take on potty training a 2 year old. Very unique. Fossen is an accomplished writer and Texas on My Mind highlights that fact. The story is fun, tension filled, full of romance and has a great plot. Everything flows together making this a fun western romance. Like most Harlequin books it tells a complete story in a easy to read length. A great start to a new series. Pick it up for a fun romantic read.

What I didn't love about the story was the other three people (Daniel, Trisha and Jodi) that kept getting in the way of their romance. I'm not sure I have seen so many people who can't take "no" for an answer. I know it was supposed to be funny and make things more interesting, but it just annoyed me after a while. I also know that small towns are supposed to be notorious for gossip, but really it was a little over the top for me. The other thing that I didn't like was the truth about Ethan's paternity. That was a bit weird. This is the first in a new series. I am looking forward to seeing what comes next for the McCord boys.

He's also suffering from PTSD/nightmares/flashbacks, so he's got more than just physical improvements to make. Claire is back home with her young son, cleaning out her grandmother's house to sale. Her grandmother raised her and she's lost the one woman who loved her. Her own mother left her when she was little and she never knew her dad. So while she's back in town, she's also struggling emotionally as she learns more about how her mother really felt about her, thanks to her mother's journal she finds in the boxes. Claire loved Riley when they were younger, but she chose his best friend, Daniel, over Riley since she knew Daniel wouldn't leave her. Now Daniel has proposed and she's battling with herself over what decision she should make - the man she loves and wants a chance with, or the guy she cares for who can give her the white picket fence and family she desires. There were way too many characters involved in Claire and Riley's relationship - they couldn't just give things a chance, they both had to worry about exes and gossiping town-folk. It was really all convoluted and detracted from the story, in my opinion. I did enjoy Lucky McCord - he was certainly an interesting character that I look forward to getting to know in the next book. Things work out for them in the end, of course, or you have to assume they really do since the book ends pretty abruptly. They will get their HEA and Claire will have a great man beside her to help raise her son (he was absolutely adorable). There was a novella after this one, but it's really the prequel to the series - it's Anna and Heath's story, or at least the beginning of it. Anna is home from law school and is preparing to transfer to another school. Heath is staying at the McCord ranch while on leave from the Air Force. They had a brief summer fling when she turned 18, but then Heath left for basic training. It's been 9 years since that summer and now that they're back in the same house, sparks are sure to fly. There's some drama with the big brothers being protective and then of course some potentially heartbreaking moments, but for the most part, it's just a quick and sweet story. I really enjoyed both of their characters and hope to hear more about them in the other books.

But these cowboys are about to get wrangled by the love of some very unique women—the kind who can melt hearts and lay it all on the line. Air force captain Riley McCord has come home on medical leave to find one heck of a welcome reception. Every unattached woman in Spring Hill, Texas, wants to nurse him back to health. That includes his childhood friend Claire Davidson—the only person who understands how damaged he really feels. In high school, she chose his best friend over him. According to Riley's rules, that should make her off-limits forever. But when Claire suggests a no-strings fling, he can't refuse. Claire always wanted Riley—but she also craved the safety and stability he couldn't offer. So she chose another path, only to end up crazier about him than ever. She's even convinced herself that this time she won't be devastated when he leaves. Yet once Riley realizes the depth of Claire's feelings—and his own—he'll have to make the ultimate choice: return to the job he loves or stay home for the woman who's always lived in his heart. With strong bold characters, Delores Fossen has delivered a fantastic read that can easily be read in one sitting. Fast paced and well written scenes that vividly bring the story to life. As usual Ms. Fossen has given us a series that will keep us coming back for more. I have read the prequel "What Happens On The Ranch". It was included with ths book. The next book in the series is "Lone Star Nights". My rating of "Texas on My Mind" is 4.5 out of 5 stars. Amazon Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0166B9I4K/... Riley and Claire have been friends for as long as they can remember, they both gave their hearts to the other but they never acted on it nor even touched, even when Riley left to the Air Force. Riley lived by 'man code' and his best friend Daniel was on and off with Claire so she was off limits due to the code. Years later Riley is injured and is home trying to recuperate so he can get back out into the field but its not just a shoulder he'd dealing with but PTSD. Claire's life was mostly a great with loving grandmother, friends and their parents. She didnt have a mother or a father but that didnt stop her from living life and falling in love with not one but two boys, one was HOT and the other had things in common with her. But everything she have live by will come causing her to look back at everything and she needs to deal with Riley back in town and her as well as every single lady in and out of town, as well as a few past flings that she knew Riley had with. One being Trisha, a busy body no gooder that came back to town in hopes to get Riley back. Then there will be Jodi coming into town, that is in a way Rileys sex buddy/girlfriend. Oh and Daniel her on and off again boyfriend since school and hes there in hopes to take Claire as his own and to rub it in Rileys face. Doesnt help Claire that she has a son that is not Daniel or any other man in their little town, but it's in many gossip circles that Ethan looks just like the McCords brothers and people want to know who is the daddy? Riley, Lucky or Logan. Lots of secrets, truths and what not will be revealed. Very touching second sorta chance.

I think this book just took way to damn long. Yes it was romantic, and had three or four OH MY GOD moments for me, but otherwise I kinda figured what the end would be like. It just seemed to not drag exactly, but after reading the entire book I'm looking at how thick it is and just trying to figure out why more didn't happen. Or why it had so much filler. This is my first Delores Fossen book and I was expecting a story that is a little saucier and exciting. There was no great storyline, no earth shattering climax, hardly any romance. There were some good moments especially with Claire’s son Ethan but I really wished Ethan was Riley’s son. I was hoping and praying that the climax would have centered around that and leave me gasping for air. Unfortunately Claire had artificial insemination using a man that RESEMBLES Riley so her son has some similar features with Riley but still the bottom line is: he is not Riley’s son. This was suppose to be a western cowboy romance book but Riley is not a cowboy. His life is centered around being a combat rescue officer. The author did not write much about Riley doing cowboy duties. That was another disappointment. Cuz when I picked up this book I thought I was getting a cowboy who uses his bare hands to muck the stalls, coral horses, repair fence, take care of a ranch, etc. This story has none of that. Let’s move onto the romance. It was practically dead. There were no hot dates, no wooing. Riley and Claire hardly spent any personal time together without someone always being present.Whether it was Livvy - her best friend, Daniel - her ex, Jodie - his ex, Trisha - town gossipmonger or Lucky - his brother. I really wished the author had given them more personal time, sent them on hot dates, dress up Claire more in barely there clothes and makeup to drive Riley insane. But none of that. This author needs to step out of her comfort zone and think outside the box in order to add some sizzle and spice to her stories.

I really enjoyed this story! The scenes when Riley was struggling with his flashbacks and nightmares, and the way Claire just knew what to do were absolutely riveting to me. They help each other heal emotionally and that deepens the connection for both the characters and the reader. The fact that there is sexual chemistry (it’s not overdone/not too many details) is icing on the cake. Daniel was a cliche, besides being the boring boyfriend he was supposedly best friends to Riley but that connection wasn’t really necessary, as there wasn’t a single memory of Daniel and Riley together. I didn’t understand why Claire felt she had to have a child (although he’s pretty cute) and her choice of how to get pregnant made me see her as a little more needy than I prefer a heroine to be. There was a lot of meddling by the townsfolk, for sure, but luckily most of them were developed enough that they were integral to the story moving along (rather than being a “prop”). I do think the ending was abrupt. Riley’s change of heart was a little too sudden, maybe could have shown him struggling with that decision a bit more ahead of time, but he is a man, after all, and one I’d come to identify with and admire by that time, so I’m willing to give him a little slack. :-)

Texas on My Mind by Delores Fossen is a steamy romantic read. Plenty of emotions to make one cry, laugh, and fall in love. The story was entertaining from the beginning. A playboy like cowboy comes back home. Suffering from PTSD, he's ready to get back into action. But his body just won't cooperate with him. Then there's the woman he has loved since they were kids. She still holds a place in his heart that no other will. Surprises are sprung on these pages, making the story pop to life. I loved Texas on My Mind by Delores Fossen is a steamy romantic read. I loved this book. What more is there to say? Plenty! The McCord brothers are a wonderful series that I have been lapping up. I am so use to Suspense being in Fossen's work this totally surprised me. I still LOVED it though. I loved Riley and Claire. I do say that I am shocked in some of Claire's actions. I don't see longing for one guy but trying to decide on another guys proposal. It almost makes Claire sound like someone willing to settle because she was tired of waiting on what she really wanted to come along. With plenty of obstacles to overcome, the fate of Riley McCord and Claire Davidson's relationship hangs in the balance right up until the novel's heartwarming conclusion. Riley and Claire are childhood friends who wanted different things in life. Growing up, Riley could not wait to leave their hometown and join the Air Force while Claire was looking for stability and marriage. Firmly in the friend zone after Claire chose their mutual friend Daniel Larsen instead of him, Riley has an adrenaline rush career as a combat rescue officer but after a possible career ending injury, he returns to the family ranch to heal. Unbeknownst to Riley, Claire has temporarily returned to Spring Hill with her two year old son Ethan to get her late grandmother's house ready to sell. Their paths immediately cross and while the two share a mutual attraction, there are numerous roadblocks standing in the way of their relationship progressing beyond friendship. Despite his physical injuries and fairly severe PTSD, Riley is completely confident he will be cleared to return to his career and he is willing to work as hard as necessary to make that happen. His return is big news in town and he is immediately besieged by women from his past who would like nothing better than to entice him into marriage. Dodging them is a whole lot easier than avoiding his brother Logan's attempts to lure him into the family business but fortunately his other brother, Lucky, understands his reasons for not wanting to become overly involved. Riley's attraction to Claire is an unwanted distraction, but with his man rules firmly in place, he is confident he will be able to ignore his desire for her. Despite her feelings for Riley, Claire went with the safe route when she chose Daniel as her boyfriend. Ten years later, their relationship has been on again/off again but she is currently considering Daniel's marriage proposal. With Riley's return, the gossip mill is working overtime as the townspeople continue speculating about the identity of her son's father and her future with Daniel. Realizing her feelings for Riley have not abated in the intervening years, Claire cannot decide whether she should continue playing it safe with Daniel or if she should throw caution to the wind and act on her desire for Riley. Riley and Claire easily pick up their friendship where it left off but there is definitely plenty of sexual tension between them. Both are carrying some pretty heavy emotional baggage from their respective pasts and these issues have a direct impact on their relationship. Claire is still struggling with the emotional fallout from her mother's abandonment and she uncovers new information that is somewhat devastating. Riley still cannot see a future for himself other than the Air Force and he refuses to admit to himself (or anyone else for that matter) that he may not pass his medical board. As if Riley and Claire do have enough roadblocks in the way of a relationship between them, outside interference causes added stress. Daniel absolutely refuses to take no for an answer to his proposal and he becomes quite manipulative with both Riley and Claire. Someone from Riley's past tries to stake a claim on him and when he refuses to play along, she persistently tries to change his mind. He also has to fend off the unwanted attention from several of the single ladies in town who have set their sights on him. Texas on My Mind is an engaging romance between two extremely likable protagonists. While the plot has a few familiar elements, Delores Fossen does a wonderful job keeping the overall story fresh and interesting. The tantalizing glimpses of Logan and Lucky will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next release in The McCord Brothers series.

This was a well-written story about two friends who have always had feelings for one another but went their separate ways after Claire chose Riley's best friend over him in high school. Since then, Riley has kept his distance, respecting the fact that Claire was in a relationship with his best friend. But now that he's back and Claire's relationship is in limbo, things are up in the air, almost as if waiting where everything will land once these two make up their minds about finally pursuing what's been brewing between them for years. The fact that Claire's son looks so much like Riley has people around town assuming he's the father but then that would have been physically impossible since these two never, ever slept together prior to his latest return to Spring Hill. Speaking of Spring Hill, goodness but does this town have a heck of a lot of busybodies or what?! Not only does everyone seem to know everyone else's business but the word "no" seems to be last in translation and it appears that there are individuals who do not handle rejection well. The book includes a bonus short story entitled What Happens on the Ranch, which was originally released separately in January of this year and serves as a prequel novella to the McCord Brothers series. The short story is about Anna McCord and Heath Moore and is a second chance romance between the two, who parted ways when nearly a decade ago. Heath's return in Anna's life coincides with a much needed break from his duties in the Air Force, where Riley serves as Heath's boss. Heath was already warned off Anna nine and a half years ago, but both Heath and Anna are still very much drawn to one another, regardless of what Riley, Logan, and Lucky McCord have to say about it. This serves as a great beginning to the series and while you can read it before or after you read Texas on My Mind, I've always been the kind of reader that prefers to do things in order, so I'm going to politely suggest you read the prequel first. Either way though, it's difficult to resist anything to do with the McCords, and What Happens on the Ranch proves it. There's the usual kind of humor that you find in small-town romances like this one, but the book appears to have quite a bit of drama when it comes to the McCord brothers themselves. Twins Logan and Lucky, their younger brother Riley, and their sister Anna are close but the only one actively working the family-owned business is the eldest sibling, Logan. The three younger siblings chose to go their own way, but based on Logan's words and actions here, it appears that he's beginning to feel as if everyone went and did whatever what they wanted while he had to be the responsible one and he's none too happy by it. I'm interested to see how that will eventually play out as the series goes on and how the dynamic among the three brothers--since it looks like Anna's been given a pass--will turn out. On a side note, the series originally had a different title--Spring Hill--and the book a different cover, and while I think the new series title works better, I liked the first cover more. Just saying. Texas on My Mind was a good four-star read. ♥

Except the one person he would totally welcome some TLC from - his childhood friend Claire Davidson. Claire who chose his best friend over him and is now firmly off-limits to him. But even his rules can't keep him away from Claire this time, especially as she's just as willing as he is to give in to the attraction between them. The only question is: what will happen when he has to return to work? Riley has always had Claire's heart but his choice of career meant he could not offer her the stability she hungered for, so she made a safer choice. Now that Riley is back, Claire is willing to take a chance on him even though she knows that he won't stay and he'll definitely be leaving with a piece of her heart. This story is sweet and entertaining, with very realistic characters facing difficult choices. Riley has always measured his worth by his extraordinary accomplishments and isn't willing to entertain the thought that his injuries (both physical and mental) could mean the end of his career and a return to an ordinary life, never mind that that life could have Claire and her adorable son in it. Claire's abandonment by her parents left an open wound that has never healed and the death of her grandmother only makes the hurt worse. Obviously, these two are not in the best shape to make any major choices regarding their futures and between Riley's indecision and Claire's passive-aggressive way of dealing with issues, as well as the other love interests, there was a lot going on, some of it irritating and some of it funny but all very interesting. Honestly my favorite character is Livvy and my favorite phrase? “Never grade a fuck on a curve, Claire. Never.” Now, you just have to read the book to find out why! TEXAS ON MY MIND illustrates the best and worst of small towns especially the lack of privacy, and the writing was very good. Ms. Fossen did a great job capturing the emotions and choices Claire and Riley struggled with. Overall, the story was enjoyable even though the ending was too easy for me, but I'm intrigued by the glimpses of the McCord siblings and the overall direction of the series, so I will be keeping up with the rest of the books.
