The conclusion of the events of last issue that involved Count Nefaria! Not much actually happened, if your not counting the red herrings at the beginning of this issue, until the final pages! In these pages, you saw the new X-Men lose one of its members!

I still suspect that this was written before the characters were established, or the writer was just that bad. You see this "falling to their death" thing at the start would work if two of the X-Men weren't already shown to be able to fly and one being a teleporter. Plus Storm could easily save all of them with wind. There are more examples of this, but it really does not matter. And funny enough, I read the site where Cyclops beats that hypnotizing bug lady and the explanation for it, still make I still suspect that this was written before the characters were established, or the writer was just that bad. And funny enough, I read the site where Cyclops beats that hypnotizing bug lady and the explanation for it, still makes no sense. And when Thunderbird died, I did not care, not only did I barely know the character but even on the last few pages there were so many things that Banshee or Professor X could have done to save him that it comes along as totally contrived. In fact the entire story is contrived. Fun act: Here it started that Nightcrawler would use these weird "German" phrases and "Peter" suddenly speaks Russian. I came upon a German translation of this story in a collector's edition by accident and it was curious to see how Nightcrawler not only doesn't call that Frog-man "Herr Frosch" but calls him "Unkerich" (from a native amphibian) and in fact asks him whether he is a frog or toad and taunts him instead of saying that he does not want to hurt him. Is that due to translation or was the story rewritten?

The X-men are on a mission to rescue Valhalla Base from Count Nefaria. Their plane is destroyed around them leaving them free-falling from the sky. They manage to survive and defeat the Count and the Ani-Men, but Nefaria escapes. Thunderbird tries to stop his escaping jet and Nefaria teleports away. Thunderbird dies in the ensuing crash.
