I was given this book as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. I am a BIG Justice series junkie. I love all the books in the series and was not disappointed by Calculated Justice, Book 12. Lorne Warner (aka Simpkins) is a strong, independent woman who often struggles to balance her passion for Justice with her desire to be a good wife and mother. By that I mean she always puts her family first but at times her decisions often put the job first which is exactly what happens in this book when she returns as DI Lorne Warner. We are reminded of some past cases (which I loved) when it appears that a kidnapping has more links to Lorne than to the victims. All the old nemeses come back to the forefront as Lorne and her team have to try and figure out why she is a target and who is targeting her. Katy, the previous DI and a friend of Lorne steps down as she is struggling with her own battle of balancing her pregnancy and the role as DI. I get the feeling this will feature more in the Justice series and knowing the author’s way of throwing some unexpected curve balls I wonder if there is going to be a future for Katy on the team. And what I also found curious in this book is their boss, Sean and the dynamics between him and the team. Is Sean on the way out? Could Lorne be in for an even bigger promotion? hmmmmmmmm……. This is why I love MA Comley’s books. They leave us #JusticeJunkies trying to figure out what could be in store while taking us on this fast-paced roller coaster ride of crime solving. Charlie, Lorne’s daughter, also features strongly in this book and it is clear she is as strong-willed and stubborn as her mum! I can see why the author chose this route for Charlie but wondered if Charlie’s own experiences with the Unicorn would not have made her a little more fragile than how she appeared in this book. Maybe I am over-thinking this. Nevertheless I enjoyed Charlie taking a front seat alongside her mother. Could Charlie also be changing her career path? hmmmmmmm…. The book ended really suddenly for me and I felt like I needed to know a little more about why the antagonist concocted the elaborate crime to lure Lorne and Charlie into his web. Again, perhaps this could have been me over-thinking and not wanting the book to end as that means I have to wait a while longer for my next Justice fix! I am a big fan of this author and the Justice series and overall this book will not disappoint. The usual twists and turns kept me guessing and I highly recommend this for anyone who is looking for a great series to keep them hooked. The series can actually be read as stand-alones but I suggest that they are read in order to get a true feel for Lorne and her team. Oh me oh my, Lorne Warner is back with a spectacular game of Treasure Hunt (remember that with Anneka Rice?). Only this version has super high stakes and they get higher as the day goes on. Her unknown adversary is sending her the length and breadth of London during the morning rush hour to various must-see places on the capital's map. And what are the stakes? The three detectives she's created are all brilliant and I feel like they are proper police officers. With this episode of the Lorne Warner chronicles, I felt I was on a whirlwind tour of London visiting a variety of places I've either been to or want to visit (except for one which you'll understand when you read this fab book). I did feel a little like I've missed something by not having read the full Lorne Warner history but not enough to spoil my enjoyment of this fast paced novel. It's a highly addictive read; I finished it in a day wanting to know how Lorne and the team would save the hostages and where Lorne would be sent next! Thanks to the author for sending me an advanced copy of this book for me to read and review. Looking forward to number 13 already!

Calculated Justice is the twelfth book in the Justice series. Well what can I say about Calculated Justice apart from how much I loved it! After a mother and a young child have disappeared, Lorne and Katy set off to investigate. What follows is a fast paced story that sees Lorne being sent on some wild goose chase all over London. Time is very much not on Lornes side as she frantically tries to find the mothers and children that have been abducted before any harm comes to them. A few other readers have stated that this is the best Justice book to date and do you know what? I kind of agree! Calculated Justice reminded me very much of the first few books in the series where the story is very much about Lornes working life. We once again see Lorne doing what she does best, solving crimes whilst under extreme pressures. She isn't some hardened cop, as though she doesn't take any c**p there is very much a caring side which comes out with the people she works closest to. Fans new and old will love this latest book in the series and as always it will leave you wanting more. If you haven't had the pleasure of reading this series yet you don't know what a treat your in for.

I adored Lorne,Tony, Charlie, Sean, Katy, & AJ. (All the good guys.) From the first few pages, I was drawn deeply into the story. But, I was breathless during the kidnapping, terrified during the car-jacking, and the fear only escalated from there. I was so involved in the storyline, I looked fearfully at anyone parking beside me. I kept my doors locked & windows rolled up tightly until I was sure they weren't part of the nefarious plot in Calculated Justice. This was not a paranoid delusion, it was the storyline created by MA Comely. She writes in a style that draws you in & holds you there until the release at the book's conclusion. She'll have one character terrorize you while another soothes and protects you. You feel safe, but only barely. You're involved in the seedy underbelly of the criminal world. Your only hope is that her heroes/heroines are strong enough to rescue you. No sooner does the book end, than you're begging for more. More Justice, more of Tony & Lorne's world, more life with Katy, AJ, Sean, Charlie, and other peripheral characters. If you write it, we will read it.

Loved everything about this one. It's difficult to write a review on a really good book without spoilers. DI Lorne Warner (formerly Simpkins) is back and facing a masterful villain who has her running to save the lives of hostages. What starts out as a kidnapping turns into a personal vendetta with Lorne right at the center of the action--and on her own. Edge of the seat action, with nail biting moments. Fabulous supporting characters. Destined to be one of the best in the Justice series. Highly Loved everything about this one. It's difficult to write a review on a really good book without spoilers. Another excellent story by MA Comley which was fast paced and intriguing as the perp kept the main character running around with useless clues to keep her out of the way. As in all of her stories, she holds the reader's interest throughout. An ok read, left far too many threads hanging for my liking and it was a bit far fetched and as with the rest of the series I found the characters to be a bit lame but all in all an ok read.

At the risk of sounding boring and repetitive, I am going to say (once again) that this is the best yet in this series. I really didn't think the author could have topped the last one, but she's only been and done just that! Although the story contained within this book can be read as a stand alone, references are made to old "friends" and so, imo, to get the very best out of it, you really do need to have read at least the early books in the series. I don't want to give spoilers but, with regard to one of the "old friends", I still miss him and have to admit to welling up during reading this book... Anyway, back to the review. As usual, right from the first page I slipped into the comfortable, familiar writing style. Reading words and phrases that I myself use meant that the connection was there right from the off. And the banter, how I love the irreverent banter between the colleagues. They definitely know exactly how far to push it and where that line is. There is definitely a great camaraderie there. So, with Katie "indisposed", Lorne is back as an Inspector and she teams up with boss Sean (a great match imo) to try and solve her latest crime, one of kidnapping. But why is the kidnapper contacting her direct? Why does he want her running around London? Is this personal, and are things about to get even closer to home? I really loved the descriptions of London. I have no idea about whether the timings portrayed are indeed achievable but I suspect, knowing this author, that they will be. I especially loved that we got to see more of Sean again. Teaming up with Lorne was a master-stroke to a die-hard fan of this series (which I most definitely am). I can't really say much more about the storyline as the blurb itself doesn't give much away but suffice it to say, the action was high, the writing tight. The pacing was also well balanced, slowly building up in the background with the kidnappers, interspersed with the manic, panic dash round the Capital, all leading up to a rather explosive ending. All in all, this is definitely a great addition to an already well loved, established series which, now on its 12th book, shows no sign of becoming stale. I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

DS (later acting DI) Lorne Warner and her sidekick DI (later DS) Katy…. become involved in the case and seek to find a successful outcome to the case. Lorne has to complete a succession of challenges as requested by the kidnappers and the penalties will be high if she fails one of them. As a result the case becomes especially personal for Lorne Warner. Lorne Warner is a strong police officer with morals but with no apparent flaws. She has a stable home life, is a loving mother and has a loving marriage but she is also dedicated to her career with the police. It could be said that she has the perfect life as she has everything in proportion. I LOVED this book. It has the perfect balance of humour, drama, tension, adventure, surprise and red herrings. The book is well written and well structured. I was hooked from the very first word and I wasn’t released until the very last word in the book. In fact I didn’t want the book to finish as it was that good. I found that this book was similar to a rollercoaster ride in that there were lots of twists, turns and gut wrenching moments. I find that this series is a like a soap opera as you empathise with some characters, feel part of their lives, consider them to be friends and share the ups and downs of their lives. At times it was as though I was right there in the room with them as the descriptions were so realistic & vivid. Each chapter of the book ends with a sort of cliff hanger, which is enough bait to lure you to carry on reading. I have loved each and every book by Mel Comley. In fact I think that her books get better with each new one that she writes. I can’t wait to read more about what is in store for DI Lorne Warner and her colleagues.

Another Amazing read in this series, a series for me that just seems to get better and better with each book, I had the added interest while reading this, as I was playing tourist around London, and had been reading this on the train, I'm pretty glad I didn't bump into Lorne though as she wouldn't have had time to speak to me, while I told her what she needed to do. Luckily she can think for herself. lol. But It was good being able to see places that i'd just read about in the book. As i've said before this series just get's better and better, and I can't wait for the next one. This is one of those series that one day I am going to read from the beginning all over again. I really enjoyed this latest instalment of the Justice series. It can be read as a stand alone book but it may be worthwhile catching up on Lornes progression by reading the series from the start. Saying this, I think I may have missed a couple of them (Calculated Justice is number 12 in this series) so I am keeping an eye out for those as well. Back to Calculated Justice then! This time Lorne seems to be involved in a case that has some personal connection to her. When a mother and child are kidnapped from their home by The Warrior, Lorne (now acting DI due to Katys pregnancy) is forced into a warped treasure hunt around London's best loved attractions to save them. But when others are also kidnapped, can Lorne work out why and who is controlling the action behind the scenes. It was a real rollercoaster this one, a race against time thriller fixed on Lorne but also with everyone working to help her as usual (Tony, Katy and Sean have her back!). It felt like a bit of a goodbye to Lorne, with mentions of past cases and the Unicorn, but I hope not as I really enjoy these books. I did find the ending a bit rushed but it seemed to follow the pattern of the adrenaline filled plotline so maybe book 13 will follow! I am now off to catch up on this authors next series which starts with Wrong Place as the second one is due out soon and I don't want to get left behind! An enjoyable fun packed 4* read for me! Someone from Lorne's past is back... He wants to play games... And take back what's his... In Calculated Justice, the 12th instalment (Yes! the 12th!!) in the series, a woman and her baby are abducted from their home. Soon after a ransom call reaches the MET with clear instructions directed specifically at Lorne Warner who's now back in the role of Detective Inspector. Who are these abductors? How come they're targeting Lorne? She doesn't even know the abducted family. How do they know her? And why are they calling her 'Simpkins'? Chased by ghosts from her past, Lorne is turned into a pawn in the abductors' hands and she's thrown on a frantic run around London. She has to go by their rules. If she fails in her mission, the family dies. Will she make it on time? Like the rest of the series, this was another cracker of a thriller and a very enjoyable read for me. I love Lorne and her resolute nature, her strong sense of justice and the camaraderie among her team members. I'm sure this is the fastest-paced Justice book to date. Lorne took me on a breath-taking roller-coaster ride with her and I couldn't wait to see whether things will be solved by the end or not. With thanks to the author for an Advanced Reader's Copy.

Comley is amazing. Time after time she comes up with original plots that keep me reading and from doing what I really should be doing. Not only is the kidnapper running her ragged, he’s keeping her so busy she can’t help her team figure out where the hostages are. I found this book fun because all our Justice friends were in on the action in some way or form. Even Pete got in a bit on it, in his own special way. I’ll take a little Pete any way I can. It’s truly a huge team/family effort to help Lorne and save the hostages in one crazy, busy, brain-teaser and mind blowing adventure in book number 12 of the Justice series. Comley never stops coming up with the great stuff.

This is the 12th book in the Justice series and I think it's the best, which I know I say every time but this one really did keep me on the edge of my seat. This time Lorne is back as DI and partnered up with her boss Sean, which I think make a great team. Yet again a great read with all the usual gang who feel like part of the family now and old friends make an appearance in this one too. The reason I love Mel Comleys books so much is that they always have you hooked from the first page and I am never bored. In fact I cannot get enough of them. Another 5* from me.

Wow, what a fast paced, exciting, thrilling adventure. We meet once again DI Lorne and her team of investigators. I have not read all of the previous Justice books, only about four of them so far, but I love the way Mel Comley writes. Each book is different and exciting. I thought Dubious Justice was best but this one surpasses it. A team of "baddies" take Lorne out of the investigative team and keep her running around London. She is under strict time deadlines and goes from car to train. The au Wow, what a fast paced, exciting, thrilling adventure. We meet once again DI Lorne and her team of investigators. I'm hooked on the Justice British police characters. I didn't read too quickly as I didn't want to miss a single detail or hurry the book's end. The author painted a deliciously evil set of villainous characters that we love to hate. The action is fast paced with twists & turns to keep you on your toes. I think she's written a winner, a wonderful tale of man's twisted evil side. The hours of total immersion into this world gave hair-raising scares & disturbed sleep-times. I love everything that MA Comely writes and will be a devoted fan of both her series.

Wow! What took me so long to read Calculated Justice, it's one hell of a book. It's face, exciting, nerve-racking and I couldn't put it down. I think it's the fastest I've ever read a book and it held my attention and interest from the beginning. Having read the entire Justice series, I have a vetted in the characters of these books. At one point, my stomach churned - with nerves and excitement of how Calculated Justice was going to pan-out. I was racing through London with Lorne. Knowing all the Wow! I highly recommend reading this book - and the entire justice series for a cracking rollercoaster ride.

What a gripping read this is, I began the book earlier today and couldn't put it down.Lorne Warner, newly reinstated as DI,and her team are drawn into a frantic and chilling chase against the clock. The story reads well as a stand alone book even though it references earlier books in the series. The characters are well portrayed and soon drew me into their world where I gasped, worried ,smiled and breathlessly followed the events. I am now looking forward to reading the whole series . Fantastic. I was given this book by Mel as an advanced read. This is book 12 or the Justice series and the second book of the Justice series. I was drawn into the story from the very first page. As the plot thickened, I found myself unable to put the book down. I want to thank the author, Mel for introducing me to this series. You have drawn me in and I am now a faithful fan. I look forward to reading the rest of the Justice series and reading No Hiding Place due to be released in October.

I was given my copy of Calculated Justice for an honest review. Although I haven’t read any books in the Justice series, I now want to start at the beginning. Calculated Justice was filled with plenty to keep you on the edge of your seat. If you like thrillers and suspense, then I recommend Calculated Justice, and although you don’t need to have read the series from the beginning, I think that it will help with relating to the main characters if you do. I know that I will be.

I have just finished this in under a day Once started I couldn't put it down until I knew that Lorne was safe. This is a roller coaster of a ride around London as Lorne tries to keep several kidnap victims safe by following instructions given her by an anonymous villain. Another winner in the Justice series Can't wait for the next one. It was not a bad book, although, I was very disapointed with the ending. It is like they waited until the last couple of pages to identify the bad guy and then it was over, with no follow up or anything. Maybe it is leading to a sequel. This is not like this author, but she continues to shock me.
