That was both terrifying and really funny at the same time. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Then I enjoyed the alternate version just as much. Reading them back to back made the story even more funny. Knowing matty Bob personally, I could actually see him doing half of this stuff. He's one of the reasons I'm holding myself back as a writer. I don't want him to become infatuated with me. Seriously though. Check it out,it's a great laugh That was both terrifying and really funny at the same time. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Then I enjoyed the alternate version just as much. Iain Rob Wright continues his collection of horror stories based on the letters of the alphabet (and appropriately titled The A to Z of Horror) with “M Is for Matty-Bob,” by far his most unusual selection. While the frights in most of Wright’s tales derive from common universal fears like clowns, bugs, and large sea creatures, the terror in “M Is for Matty-Bob” isn’t all that common, and, frankly, isn’t all that terrifying. While the frights in most of Wright’s tales derive from common universal fears like clowns, bugs, and large sea creatures, the terror in “M Is for Matty-Bob” isn’t all that common, and, frankly, isn’t all that terrifying. However, the story is one of the most innovative and funniest horror stories you’re likely to find. The titular Matty-Bob is a dedicated, indeed, far too dedicated fan of a horror writer named Iain Rob Wright. Yes, Wright has put himself in the middle of the story, usually a bad sign, but here an inspired choice. For the horror in the story is that Matty-Bob just won’t leave Wright alone, graduating from sending the author e-mails containing rather disgusting photos of himself to showing up with a pizza and entering the author’s bathroom whilst Wright is taking a bath. That last encounter doesn’t lead to a dinner date but, rather, to an argument and fight between the two that winds up outside in Wright’s front yard, where the stark naked Wright has to defend himself from Matty-Bob’s overtures of friendship. Although in the blurb on the Amazon page for “M Is for Matty-Bob,” Wright claims that the events in the story are true, tongue is firmly in cheek here, as Wright uses himself as the butt of as many jokes as the bizarrely annoying Matty-Bob. Along the way, Wright pokes fun at himself and his writing, while gleefully submitting to a number of indignities, most of them occurring while he’s in his birthday suit. Not all the jokes work, perhaps because of the difference in taste and sensibility between American and British humor, but plenty of them hit the mark, so that the story is quite amusing. I would have given Wright’s description of his encounter with Matty-Bob four stars as a story, but, in the words of the infomercial, wait, wait there’s more, and it’s that “more” that elevates “M Is for Matty-Bob” into truly gonzo territory. It seems that, as one of the Easter eggs in the story, the crazed fan Matty-Bob is actually Matthew Cash aka Matty-Bob, a fellow horror writer and friend of Wright’s. Further, immediately after Wright’s story, Matty-Bob provides his own description of the encounter with Wright. It appears that author Cash contributed this part of the story to go along with his name and general description, which matches the title character’s description to a T. The events that occur in both versions of the story are the same, even down to Wright’s and Matty-Bob’s dialogue, which appears identically in the two versions of the story. Not surprisingly, while the events that transpire are the same, Matty-Bob’s interpretation of them differs considerably from Wright’s and, at the same time, pretty much exonerates him completely from any guilt, at least in his own eyes, although readers are likely to come to a different conclusion. One thing that they will definitely conclude is that Matty-Bob’s version is far more bizarre yet pretty funny in its own right. When Iain Rob Wright decides to change the pace in a collection of rather grisly and spooky tales, he does so in a big way. “M Is for Matty-Bob” is at the same time very funny, very creative, and extremely well-constructed with two authors working off the same factual template and coming up with wildly different takes on the same encounter. The story is a perfect send-up of books like Stephen King’s Misery (one of the numerous names and titles Wright incorporates into his story) yet highly innovative. You’ll find a number of scarier stories by Iain Rob Wright, both in this collection and elsewhere, but you won’t find many that are more creative or entertaining.

This book was very creepy and disturbing. But hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing. Lmfao @ “Eat it!” Matty-Bob screamed, shoving a slice of pizza into Iain’s mouth. “Eat my cock pizza, you liar.” Oh man, Matty-Bob is a nut job! This book was very creepy and disturbing. IRW loves his WRIGHTERS , his true fans. But in the spring of 2015, he met Matty-Bob... a mega fan of Anne Wilkes proportions. My one regret about this review is not being able to find the picture of “Matty Bob’s” naked torso with the written lipstick message on it. I KNOW it exists – I saw the pic before reading this book, and it really put Matty Bob‘s character into my memory bank, and almost caused me to block him on Facebook >.< hahahahaha! The book also includes Matty Bob’s side of the story at the end, and in true HE SAID / SHE SAID form… it makes you wonder who the true psycho really is. When reached for comment, the author had only this to say… “DO NOT READ THIS BOOK, IT’S A LIE! I have just finished this latest instalment in the A-Z of Horror and I have tears rolling down my face. This had me laughing out loud and completely grossed out in equal measure, it's definitely the best one yet. Several parts will no doubt give me nightmares, but I won't give the game away. The only thing I'll say is that I doubt I'll ever eat pizza again!

So very tongue in cheek, an hysterical giggle from start to finish. The joys of fan love as IRW gets a visit from an unhinged fan! Bit close to home this one for me, as I have wasted many an hour camped out in various authors shed, but never thought to order pizza – way to go Matty-Bob. I was snorting and giggling through this story and it was really great to see IRW humorous side. Loved the Misery reference and I’m sure there were many more that I missed as IRW is so clever in adding little bits l So very tongue in cheek, an hysterical giggle from start to finish. M is for Martty-Bob I gave this rating because Mr Wright you game away the ending to Savage. Really that was rude. And you mentioned it twice. Spoiler give away, very not nice. I haven't read that one yet. But as usual the writing was good. Thank you. On to some more great reading. Finish out your short stories A-Z. Not in in a hurry to read Savage . Ummm.
