A great piece of Christian fiction highlighting the importance of trust, faith, family, and forgiveness. I was entertained and intrigued from the very first page- a young woman with a seemingly perfect life: great job in Portland and a fiance' who adores her, but she is haunted by decisions from her past. And her past compels her back to her family home in small-town, rural Alaska and that past, quite literally, confronts her the moment she steps foot off the plane. I find great delight in reading books that take place in Alaska, hence me picking up this book. The storyline was somewhat predictable, but overall I enjoyed it. I don't expect to read more by the same author because I wasn't blown away, but I didn't dislike the book either. Sweet Story of Forgiveness Secrets are things which can unravel your life if you let them. That's what Lauren thought as she traveled up to to visit her family. From the first moments of landing in her home town, her life started to unravel. There were so many bits and pieces of drama in all of the area's of Lauren life. So many secrets, yet forgiveness and healing were just around the corner if the secrets would only be shared. This story will touch your heart with intense emotions. A nice, quick read There really isn’t anything special about “Unraveled”. Happily, there really isn’t anything awful about it either, including the editing. Yay! I wish the Alaskan backdrop was more a part of the story, but it was basically just mentioned offhandedly...sigh. Some of the walk ons and walk offs for secondary characters are a bit abrupt and left me with an incomplete feeling...where the heck DID Aunt Jane get too? Maybe I need to read the novella to find out? Not this inquiring mind A nice, quick read There really isn’t anything special about “Unraveled”. I found this book to be great and inspiring. A reminder that running is not the answer and that God has His hand in everything and forgiveness is always the best option.

Unraveled by Heidi McCahan was a sweet and touching novel that I had trouble putting down. The storyline was well-written, quick-paced, and had a wonderful mix of romance, unexpected danger, mystery, and suspense. I liked how the book was set primarily in rural Alaska and contained descriptions and events, like rafting, that demonstrated the beauty and wild nature of the area. The themes of this novel were clear and convicting and included topics such as the importance of forgiveness, honesty, and being willing to trust and to love again despite heartache. I thought that Unraveled really caused the reader to think about how past mistakes and refusing to face one's faults can hurt those you love and cause more pain than admitting your mistakes. The novel was narrated from the third person point of view, but the perspective from which the story was told alternated between Blake and Lauren. This style allowed the reader to identify with both main characters and to understand what each was thinking and feeling. The novel did have some grammatical issues and places where words were missing, but it did not detract significantly from the story. The characters in Unraveled were well-developed, realistic, and enjoyable to read about. Both Lauren and Blake were interesting characters who had their share of strengths, weaknesses, and struggles that they had to work through. I really liked Blake. He never truly gave up on Lauren, and he was able to offer forgiveness even when she devastated him, first by leaving, and then with her return and her secrets. I had a harder time connecting with Lauren because she was unwilling to stop running and to turn to God and trust Him. However, as I learned more about her life, her past, and her concerns, I was able to understand her actions more and to relate more to her personality. The minor characters in this novel added to the complexity of the story and contributed both advice and barriers to Lauren and Blake's lives, depending on the character. There were a couple aspects concerning the characters that I did not particularly like. I wish that Lauren's return to God had been clearer. One of the women in her life was always offering her advice and sharing God's Word and His love with Lauren, but Lauren never really began trusting and praying to God again. I think that the redemption of the story would have been more realistic and convicting if Lauren had explicitly returned not only to Blake but also to her relationship with God. Another conclusion that I found odd in Unraveled considering the novel's themes was the lack of forgiveness offered by several characters to Aunt Jane. Aunt Jane came in and temporarily wrecked everyone's lives, but she simply disappeared out of the story in the end and was still mentioned by her sister and others in a bitter manner. I would have liked there to have been more closure with Aunt Jane even if forgiveness was not yet possible for the characters to express. Overall, I really enjoyed Unraveled, and I would highly recommend to readers looking for a tender, romantic novel that emphasizes important values such as forgiveness, honesty, and trust. I look forward to reading more of Heidi McCahan's novels in the future! I received this novel from the author and Winslet Press in exchange for an honest review. As she's forced to look into the eyes of her past and even worse, her unraveling future she discovers that running only leaves you out of breath on a dead end street. Will she choose to unveil the secrets that haunt her? Or will she bury them once and for all and embrace a new life so different from the one she once held dear? Blake Tully, wildly successful and breathtakingly winsome owner of a new rafting business, finds Lauren's unexpected reappearance confusing. As he torments himself with what if's and what should've been's, he can't mistake the feeling that crawls down his spine every time he looks at her. Although she broke his heart once, he longs to give his childhood sweetheart another chance, but can he convince her to stop running away when life gets tough? And can he forgive her when he discovers the reason she's been hiding? About the Author: A Pacific Northwest girl at heart, Heidi was blessed to spend her formative years in Alaska. Her unique upbringing, coupled with Alaska's breathtaking scenery, fueled her active imagination and loosely inspired her debut novel, Unraveled. Heidi graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington and a Master's Degree in Athletic Training from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. After a brief career as a Certified Athletic Trainer, Heidi married her husband, Steve. They live in North Carolina with their three active little boys. My Review: Lauren Carter has been running from her past and keeping secrets. Now she is back home and still trying to hold it all together. The first face she seen as she was stepping off the plane was that of her high school sweetheart, Blake Tully. Her heart does flip-flops and she is sucked into a whirlwind with Blake. Her secrets replay themselves in her mind daily, she isn't sure how long she will be able to keep them where they belong. When Blake Tully seen Lauren standing at the airport, it seemed like a ton of old memories bubbled to the surface. After Lauren left all those years ago, he fell apart. But now he seems to have gotten his life back on track, he owns his own rafting business. it bothers him to know she is back but he knows deep down inside he would take her back in a heartbeat. If only she would stop running... The author has done an outstanding job on this her debut novel. Before long you find out that there are alot of secrets being kept and it will keep you turning the page just to see what will happen next. An amazing story of love and loss! **Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.

I really loved this book, I can't give it 5 starts because (see under spoilers). The book has the can't put it down quality from page 1. There are the secrets, the dealing with the aging grandmother, the old friends, the sparks that fly - all things that make this book great. Don't read below here unless you want to know what I would call spoilers: My biggest problem is that they had to be a near death accident to bring the happy couple together. I am tired of that, I just don't see that always has to be that way. In real life I just don't think that is what it is. If this is a Christian book, God can do that without that accident. Matt being a pastor, how important was that except at the very end. There was this part about him preaching and Lauren not going, unneeded if you ask me. And all his children, what was their purpose in this book really? Is it really legal in Oregon to put the father's name on a birth certificate and then put the child up for adoption without his consent? Seth and his 'find' did we ever get closure to that story line? Then there was after the break up the calls and texts from Holden that went unanswered, since they went unanswered why talk about them. Strange if you ask me.

3.5 stars This was just a good, clean and enjoyable romance story. Engaging and entertaining. It pulls you in from the start and holds your interest throughout the entire story. The story does have Christian undertones, it occasionally quotes certain passages but not to many. It doesn't beat you over the head with religion. Romance, heartbreak, forgiveness, second chances and a HEA. Family relationships are some of the most complex there are. Secrets have a way of always coming out in the end. Lauren's life is unraveling a little at a time. She has been running from her past and the secrets she has kept for 8 years. Now back in her hometown she will have to choose whether or not to keep running or face the demons of her past that continue to plague her. Really loved Blake's character. Blake has a heart of gold. Not many men would be able to forgive her for the decision she made to withhold the truth from him. Lauren's character was just likable. Her actions were really selfish whether she felt she had "reasons" or not. Laura Jennings did a really good job with the narration. Pleasant voice. Easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken. Some really good character voices. The narration flows smoothly with a nice even pace. She was able to bring the characters and all their emotions to life. Very enjoyable. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher.

Although somewhat predictable, the storyline was good. I enjoyed Blake, the hero, and Lauren, the heroine. They were high school sweethearts separated for nine years. The separation was Lauren's doing, not Blake's. He was deviated. Will the secret she's hiding keep them apart or bring them back together? The storyline does end with a happily-ever-after, but it left several unresolved issues for the secondary characters. Did Lauren's brother find gold? Did her grandmother go live with Aunt Jane? Speaking of Aunt Jane, what happened to her? What about Blake's brother? Perhaps there will be another book to answer some of these questions. All in all it was a good book, but the story does seem to have gaps, holes, unnecessary characters and unresolved issues.

Secrets always seem to come back to bite you you-know-where. This book is about some big secrets. None of them made a lot of sense to me. There was someone adopted and in her mid-twenties is just finding out about it. Why the big secret? There was no shame in the adoption. Ugh! There was a secret pregnancy and adoption. Why. I found so many things to like about this story (including the cover–isn’t it lovely?). Tension from page one, likable characters, a breathtaking setting, a bit of mystery…and lots of romance. Unraveled allows a thoughtful exploration of some of life’s big questions, while the story itself reveals a warm and beautiful heart beating at its center.
