Then he would kiss us when he was a toddler. ”Lindy” is about a stuff blue puppy that was given to me before my youngest was born and how special it is to him still today. “Stinky Toes” was written one day after my older son had taken his old shoes off and his feet stuck so badly! Each of these poems in the book all have some sort of connection to our family and home. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did in writing them!

This book contains a variety of unique poems each telling a different story. The poems were all very different and easy to enjoy. The author wrote the book in dedication to watching her kids grow up. The way I would incorporate this book into a classroom would be to involve it when studying poetry. I would read a couple poems I think would best appeal to my students and then have them talk in small groups about they poem. I would read a couple poems I think would best appeal to my students and then have them talk in small groups about they poem. I would then have an in class discussion about the poems and what they likes and disliked about each poem. After doing this I would have each student create a poem of their own on any topic they would like. They would then have to stand up in front of the class and read it.

Poetry: The Lighter Side of Silliness is exactly as the name suggests, silly and fun. It is a short read filled with crazy little poems such as Stinky Toes, Balloons, and Scary Nights. Each is a handcrafted anecdote related to the author’s children and their home life. I found myself grinning and laughing unable to put the book down. Instead I had to turn the page and move onto the next poem. I have read many of Jeniann Bower’s books and loved each one. This one has a feel similar to Collection Poetry: The Lighter Side of Silliness is exactly as the name suggests, silly and fun. This one has a feel similar to Collection of 25 days of Christmas Poetry in the sense it’s carefree and whimsical. It’s a great read for any day and a pick-me-up when the day doesn’t start off on the right foot. Warning – be prepared to smile.
