I read this short intimate biograghy because it caught my eye and because it would help me have a construct on which build my understanding of her work.

Jane Goodall wanted to visit Africa, but everyone around her said it would be unrealistic. So she got a job as a secretary and earned enough money to visit Africa. Then she started researching chimps and she contributed tremendous amounts of research to science.

The book was very interesting! I learned a lot about Jane Goodall and the book actually helped me write an essay on her. I would definitely recommend it.

This book was not tremendously well written. It was obviously simplified for age level and kind of glossed over the love bits which certainly would have made her life story more interesting. I was kind of disappointed about how she became a scientist through knowing a guy from Cambridge when she hardly attended or completed her thesis technically. I understand why she frustrated people; she got places maybe a little because of her looks and she was a flirt? That is the impression I got. AND she This book was not tremendously well written. It frustrated me that she fed them, turning a wilderness area into a bit of a zoo/refuge in which the animals became dependent on them and a bit lazy. It was critical in learning behaviors but I agree with criticisms that it was hardly an untouched view of chimps in the wild. Obviously, even as an adult reading this book written for children, I got a lot of fact and history out of it.

Jane Goodall was a girl who wasn't like many others. She wanted to go to Africa and learn about chimpanzees. She gets the opportunity and goes. The twists are fascinating and the facts are true. I honestly didn't enjoy this book as much as others. The details were sometimes way over the top and some of the stories weren't written well. Other than that I enjoyed learning about her. What an amazing lady! This is someone all females should look up to and be proud of because of her fight to be treated equally within the science community. Throughout her life she has always kep one thing in mind - the safety of the wonderful chimpanzees in Africa. They are so lucky to have someone as strong and willful as Jane Goodall working for them. I really liked the author's in depth story of Jane's life. You will too! What an amazing lady! This was like icing on top of the cake! I'm sure there is so much more to read about Jane Goodall and the things she did, but this book was a quick, fun read that gives you the short and sweet version. I really enjoyed it and am so happy to have learned more about this great woman. She has done and continues to do so much good in her life. This was like icing on top of the cake! Very good read. Fast paced and full of useful info. This will steer me toward Jane's book In the Shadow of Man. I really like how it balanced the personal info, the fundraising/philanthropy and groundbreaking primatology. Very good read. Fast paced and full of useful info. I honestly have no interest in any biographies I have ever read so I don't know what I was expecting from this one. I did not find Jane Goodall's story very interesting and I have to do a poster on her now, so yeah...I don't have a good relationship with this book. At least it was short. While the content was interesting, the writing was poor and the amount of detail was too much. The personal stories were great, but they were written as if by a 5th grader. Yes, I know this was written for young adults, but I read plenty of YA books and they're written to a higher quality. I learned a lot I didn't know previously, especially regarding Jane's personal life. I wonder how the author got the info. Would be nice to hear that story as well.
