Run-of-the-mill but otherwise decent action thriller which I might have found more entertaining if I hadn't despised the protagonist so much. Archer is an arrogant, misogynistic asshole who had me repeatedly wanting to reach into the book to strangle him, preferably after committing various other acts of violence upon his person commensurate with how much his attitude pissed me off. Also, I'm sick and tired of the "super soldier saves his inevitably less kickass female sidekick from getting rape Run-of-the-mill but otherwise decent action thriller which I might have found more entertaining if I hadn't despised the protagonist so much. Ex-SAS soldier, Craig Archer, in the employ of The Service, starts pursuing links to international terrorism across the world after a planned snatch goes wrong. Soon, he finds he can trust nobody when it becomes evident that the British, the Americans and the Saudis all have their own targets and agendas. A dynamic action tale of tense action; very readable and pretty believable. Keep going, Angus McLean.

"Action overload" If you like wall-to-wall action and a cast of macho characters that make Rambo seem like a boy scout, then this book is for you. It's hard-hitting and in your face from beginning to end. If you can take a breath to check out the writing style - it's pretty good, so soak it up and keep reading. Action-packed, with great characters and a plot so twisty your head will spin. Give it a read and see for yourself.

This was an action-packed story. My problem was that I just couldn't follow the plot. It jumped around so much I couldn't figure out who the "bad guy" was and why the various governments wanted to eliminate him/them - or not. Why were the Americans involved? Why was the Director such an arrogant ass who offered almost no help? Who's really on Archer's side and who's working against him? How did Samoans get involved in all of this. And, the abrupt ending was both satisfactory and unsatisfactory. This was an action-packed story. My problem was that I just couldn't follow the plot. As soon as i get caught up on a bunch of ARCs I'm gonna jump into "Old Friends". Wow!! Just...Wow! Now that I've read the blurb about Angus being a cop, it explains a lot. Good Edge of the Seat Thriller Enjoyed the action and adventure. The story started off quickly and ramped up from there. The story had a good mix of characters and set the stage for future adentures.

Pure Escape Entertainment Worth Reading! Mix real life experience of being a cop and detective with a masterful writing ability and a touch of creativeness and you have McLean's fast-action hardcore novel that is hard to put down! Different!! Espionage Is not really my first choice in reading materials, but this one, though gruesome, was well written. Archer was a unique individual and good at his trade.
