Interesting analysis of several books as a way of supporting the thesis presented on "rewriting the self," or recasting our conception of our own past in the light of the present, and modifying our ideas about who we are, our identities. You don't have to have read the books he discusses, and even after reading this I don't want to read all of them, although this book did spark my interest in several (Augustine, Sartre, Keller, Roth -- in descending order of interest).
