I wish they took a different route with this book. Using a episode as a picture book is smart isn't very creative. which is clearly what they were going for. Like, come on this image of Snotlout and Hookfang on this cover is stuck also on the back of every cover. (Your not fooling me.) With the criticism I give these book I do like this one. with it's meanings. There's the in your face meaning that losing a game is more important than losing a friendship but really there is more. We see that Snotlouts biggest fear is letting down not only his father but the names Legacy as the undefeated. ( Pretty heave burden for a sixteen year old no?) This one in particular shows that not everyone takes losing well. Interestingly enough this story brings more character into Snotlout. And I'm glad that while I figured out though the episodes that the one man that seems to creep around with Stoick, (No not Gobber.) and never talks who I've figured is really Snotlouts father. Thanks to this book I can actually say that his name is Spitelout. (Very creative.) I LOVE that Snotlouts chant made it into a book. "Snotlout! Snotlout! Oy! Oy! Oy!"

An excellent story of how Hiccup honoured his difficult friendship with Snotlout over winning the dragon games despite the fact that with Toothless' help they were certain to win. Can be used to be to demonstrate the importance of friendship for children who may be experiencing an unbalanced sense of competition with their friends.
