Waiting for # 4 I enjoyed this book also. It left me. Looking for the next one. I like May Rose. She is a strong woman and a great caretaker of those around her. Wanda the free sprit. I want to know what will become of her Otis and Will. And the rest of the people. Is Charlie going to be okay? This one left me wanting .more.

Eh...okay This third book of the series is written in a much different style than the first two. I found this a little strange and after adjusting to this difference found myself not as interested in the story. I also began feeling bored by the so-called romance, or lack thereof, in May Rose's life. It felt like beating the dead horse much of the time. Will she? Won't she? Does she? Doesn't she? What a headache! I got tired of it by the midway point in the book. What a headache! I got tired of it by the midway point in the book. The only reason I felt compelled to finish the book is my curiosity over the return of Charlie, her adopted son! Additionally, I found the characters emotionally bankrupt. If I hadn't seen people I loved for over a decade I'm certain I wouldn't just shake hands. There is absolutely no thrill to any of the reunions. No feelings are displayed. No vibrance at all to the characters or in the relationships. Just dull, dull, dull and monotonous. I'm not interested enough to continue this very flat series. Definitely not for me.

Grapes of Wrath on steroids While I enjoyed the gritty reason of hard times in the first book of this series, it wore me down in this story, which picks up 15 yrs later. This story had one terrible thing happening after the other. It was a lot like watching the news. The thought process of the main character consisted of endless worry and doom. The story stopped being believable to me. I actually put it aside and read another book. I did come back and finish it, and give it 3 stars because the wr Grapes of Wrath on steroids While I enjoyed the gritty reason of hard times in the first book of this series, it wore me down in this story, which picks up 15 yrs later. This is not the typical western romance novels which would be great if it wasn't so heavy on gloom doom and serial catastrophe.

Great series I started these books because the first one was so inexpensive so I figured why not. This is my favorite genre. The story is so good and keeps you turning the page. I have been telling all of my friends about the books. It is amazing how hard life was, but it shows how determined the human spirit is.

Who Knew? Who knew Wanda would grow up but I'm not surprised of her reckless ways. Her Grandma Lucie is like a lot of Grandmas out there in current times. All about money dont care how or who bring it in. May Rose was always the caretaker type. Cant wait to read Book 4.

I can't get enough! I have been floundering for a good read when I stumbled upon "Girl in the Mountain". I just finished book three of this series and I am starting number Four. Ervin keeps the characters fresh and the storyline exciting. Well done!

Great Books I LOVED the way the first book laid the plot to lead into the next books. I never read a series that kept all the people all the way through. LOVED this set

Midwifery Sun by Carol Ervin I usually don't read "love stories", but I wanted the rest of the story! This isn't one of those "mushy" love stories, I considered it a "Life Story"! Of course we wanted to know Mae Rose's story but the bonus was Wanda's! Reading about how a town is born, from dreams and hard work is so American, yet I imagine that's how most towns come to be. This is an easy book to read, all three I read in one day each. The Story moves fast and the characters are fun, I could see Midwifery Sun by Carol Ervin I usually don't read "love stories", but I wanted the rest of the story! Overall this installment tied up the loose ends of the previous two books. I was still left wondering though what happened to Dessie and Tom from the first book who took in May Rose and gave her a place to stay before she left Winkler, and also the preacher who Hester was sweet on. What happened to him and his mother?

Third of the series, excellent!! I hope she never runs out of characters to continue the series! I like the fact that they are real people, with realistic problems of the early 20th century, set in West Virginia's lumber and mining, told by someone with factual info on those life and times.

Great Story This is the third book of the saga of May Rose, the girl on the mountain. It takes you back to what life was like in the mountains for women in the early 1900s. Very good book, sorry to see it end.

This book was the best of the stories. I enjoyed this book best. The three siblings, Will, Glory, and Charlie are back together in Winkler. Wanda and Will are going to marry. Mae Rose will get herself a man that loves her, and Winkler is prosperous once again.

A amazing pioneer saga. I have loved reading this trilogy. The hardships become softened by the acts of love and kindness. I will miss the continuing saga. I highly recommend this wonderful book that is the last in the series.

Good characters I liked the characters and the story. I also enjoy the time period of the story. What I found disappointing was the abrupt and in my opinion too short ending. There should have been more to the ending. Too bad. Orphan Annie

The future is unpredictable. Returning to the mountains has a lot of twists and turns in the future of three women. Memories could be a big factor in their futures.
