Every single time I turned the page my heart stopped, and I swear I looked over my shoulder, just in case. Let’s begin my journey. Madison Kennedy has always seen herself as damaged goods. Her ex-boyfriend, Richard, told her on a daily basis that she was worthless. After a tumultuous three year relationship, Maddie finally decided to leave behind the bruises and hurtful words only to find herself scared and alone. Five years have passed, and it still seems like yesterday. Okay, so I’m not sure you guys know me, but I consider myself a bad ass. And when I say that I swear I have Navy SEAL skills. Maybe not 'cause I’m 5'2", with acrylic nails and I’m semi allergic to pain, but I swear this girl has the strength of a warrior. I think when dealing with abuse, it’s a tough line for me. Actually for anyone. So when I read some of the pages about the situation Richard, if I could go in this book I swear I would ninja kick him in the balls. He made me want very harmful things for him. I also wanted to wrap my arms around Madison and tell her “everything will be ok.” But I totally understood where she was coming from. I mean who can trust again after that? How do you continue a life without looking over your shoulder? How do you trust people? I think the answer is sometimes you just have to take a chance. But how? Enter Mr. Cole Walker. Cole Walker has a secret of his own. He’s not one to show his secret or talk about it. It’s in the past hopefully hidden. You see he wasn’t looking for love. Heck he just wanted to know her name. It shouldn’t be this hard, should it? I’d thought about approaching her, but she seemed lost in her thoughts. When I’d finally worked up the nerve on Tuesday, she hadn’t shown. I know…I know…I sound like a stalker, but I can’t help it. I’m drawn to her, and if she’s her today…I’m going to get to know her. So Cole wants to do the impossible, he wants her to let him in. All he wants is her name. Except it isn’t cut and dry. Oh, have I mentioned how hot Cole is? Well if you don’t believe me. Let Madison tell you. “Hi,” came a male voice from behind me. I jerked around to see the most beautiful chocolate eyes staring at me. His hair was in the ‘just got out of bed’ style, and a small amount of scruff covered his jaw. Ummm, yup, that would have my attention, but it doesn’t it just sends her running in the other direction. Heck she’s running so fast Usain Bolt can’t even catch her. But after bumping into each other more than a couple of times, Maddie starts to drop her guard, and lets him in, will she be ok? Will he teach her that she should trust, or will one little move scare her into never living? Fear that he’d show up at my office. Fear that I’d never find someone to love me the way I should be loved. Fear that I was to remain in this state of in between for the rest of my life. I had often wondered if I was Irreparably broken, and if I could ever be put back together. So this is a cliffhanger, which if you know me you know I don’t do cliffhanger’s, but I’m glad I read this one. I can’t wait to know if love does heal all scars or will it leave you irreparably broken forever?

This book defo made me not happy with her too!!! This book is about 2 broken souls. Cole who has an abusive father. Maddie who had an abusive ex-boyfriend. Both of them are in these abusive relationships for years and both have mental and physical scars from the trauma. Both of these people have kept others at arms lengths with the exception of a close friend or two. Of the two, Maddie is prolly the worse off. Richard really, really messed with her and pretty much made her think that the sky is infact green and not blue!! Cole is struggling with what he did to protect his family from his abusive dad. Cole see's Maddie while he is dog sitting for his sister. He tried to approach her but Maddie is on full alart. Her "no way, not gonna happen" mode actually. Fate however decided the two must meet. Cole runs into her at a club the following night and again she shuts him down which cracked up his best friend Wes. Well ya know what thay say about 3rd times??? Well it took the 3rd meeting before Maddie and Cole strike up an uncomfortable friendship. As the story goes along, Maddie is constantly dealing with her deamons and Cole is there to try and prove to her she IS worth all the drama. When they get to a great place, Maddie knows someone is watching her and then her fears are realized.....OMG the ending is a hot mess....my tummy was fluttering and when I turned the page it said "the end" and I messaged Heather and screamed!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Cole and Maddie are defo a couple that I am dying to read more about.

While the story line is rather predictable and not original, let’s face it with so many authors out there, original ideas are very rare, in this case the way the author presented this story is what is unique and the reason for the high ratings. When dealing with such a sensitive subject as domestic violence and the recovery from such events, I feel there is a very fine line between victim and survivor and many times I never feel the character rarely realistically crosses that line. Most often the woman finds another man to fall in love with and he becomes her escape and rescuer, but not in this book. What this author did with Maddie is she created a strong woman who was involved in a relationship with Richard that turned violent. She had no warnings till the first hit happened but she refused to accept the abuse at a point and she left. With a career and the ability to support herself, she went one step farther and participated in support groups for other survivors. This alone was enough for me to say the author was giving great respect to the issue and survivors, she was not using it as just a subject for a book. Then she soared into the five star category with the Cole and the secondary characters involved. Another bonus was Maddie still continued her life in the same neighborhood her abuser lived in. She didn’t run and hide. There was no hiding in another state or country, she walked the same sidewalks as he did, and she bought drinks at the same locations he would go to. Yes she looked over her shoulder and she would find herself shaking in fear that he would show up, but the author wrote it in a way that we could feel it and soak in Maddie’s courage. Cole was such a misunderstood soul but I was so glad to see he knew he was worth going after Maddie. I know that sounds like a crazy statement but here is the deal. He has his own demons yet he was still willing to seek his happiness while trying to heal Maddie the best he could. The author once again let the reader see him as a survivor who had been shattered and forced into doing things he would never want to do, but he didn’t let that hold him back from trusting in love and believing he had something positive to offer Maddie. It was clear his life as a child had damaged him but the author made it clear that as a man life had not destroyed Cole. He still believed in the beauty of things and wanted to share that with her. If I were basing this rating on story alone it would have easily been a four star, but with the balancing act that author did in presenting this topic with respect, grace and courage and the depth of characters she created, I had no choice but give it a five. Now if I could give it a higher rating I would with that cliff hanger. I am a reader who LOVES cliff hangers and the suspense of waiting for the next book and the author didn’t disappoint me here. She wrote a final page that had me screaming and sobbing. I finished this book three days ago and I still think about Maddie and Cole often, the story became part of my heart and I am dying to know what happens next. I highly recommend this book. *Copy provided for review* Reviewed by Tbird for Crystal’s Many Reviewers

The story is so intriguing and just grabs your heartstrings from the beginning and with that cliffy ending you are left in a jawdropping heartbreaking mess. Maddie has a secret. One that keeps her up at night and scared all day. Her past boyfriend will always haunt her and it has kept her emotionally stunted and from being who she is. She wants the happily ever after but after the crazytrain dangerous ride in her last relationship she no longer trusts. Even is afraid of her own shadow. Living in fear even after five years has left Maddie in shambles feeling as if she will never find love or be whole. that is until Cole comes along. Cole understands what Maddie is going through. Coming from a abusive past he can relate. These two have a instant connection and it is seen in the sweet descriptive writing that H. D’agostino has graced us with. At first as Maddie runs from Cole, he is confused but than as he begins to see her past play out in her eyes with each reaction she has he knows what needs to be done. Cole knows that this is the woman he needs to help heal his heart. Complete him and repair the damage to him from his past. From the moment in the dog park to seeing her at the self defense class at the gym he knew. And so did Maddie except her fear overwhelmed her. when she finally gave him a chance to help her empower herself, she began to trust him. She began to allow her heart to feel again. Opening this door helps her take steps in healing herself from the past. As their relationship sparks and goes forward, the past comes out to play though. and it is a bear. her ex just doesn’t want to let go even after 5 years. It’s sad because just as Maddie was gaining confidence in herself and trust in others, the douchecanoe of an ex needs to try to gain control. With this we see Cole make a mistake and set them back to square one. In the end though he shows her that he is not like her ex but is her protector and lover. Her friend and soulmate. cole is a amazing character. he has so many facets to him. the damaged past, the overcoming of what was done to him so he could empower himself and give himself a chance to heal and find love. Love with Maddie. this is a character and emotionally driven plot. The love story came about in a slow natural progression and showed how when one is damaged it takes time and the support of a truly great man to help you heal. You see a story play out that is emotional and empowering at the same time. As they heal one another, they open up and begin to trust more. giving over each others secrets and truly becoming a couple. But sometimes as in all relationships there are bumps in the road and we see this play out as well. and the one in this plot will truly have your mind reeling. It allows us to see just how much love Cole has for Maddie. A wonderfully emotionally reeling story that will have you smiling as we see a beautiful love show how it has the power to heal and blossom. the cliffhanger at the end will have you pulling on your hair dying for the next book.

The book was great but wow did it tug at my heart and play with my emotions. It kept me wanting to find out more about Maddie and Cole. Maddie is trying to take back and move on with her life after being in an abusive relationship. It is taking time and a lot of looking over her shoulder to get where she is today. For some reason things are changing for her she meets a friend, Erin, and then a guy at the dog park that freaks her out. Then the same guy is at the cub which she blows off again. Then her new friend takes her to a self defense class and yeap same guy there again. Cole is dog sitting and sees a gorgeous woman determined not to let her go this time without talking to her he approaches her and is shocked at her reaction when he asked if he could sit down. Then when he sees her at the club he is shocked again when she shoots him down and listens to his friend Wes tease him. Then he gets his lucky break when she shows up for the self defense class that he helps Wes with. These two have more in common than they realize. I loved watching them build their relationship slowly and watching Maddie build her confidence and retreat. Seeing Cole gain Maddie’s trust and loose some (it’s a balancing act that he is learning to balance). I was so into the book I wasn’t paying attention to what percent was left in the book and when I turned the page and realized it was the last page aaaannnnndddd nnnnooo this can’t be a cliff hanger there has to be more. I have to know what’s going to happen. Then I read how long I have to wait for book two! WHAT! NO Way say it’s not so! Now you see why I put EX-best friend up at the top. The Queen of Cliff hangers has struck again. Well played I didn’t even know what hit me tell I was on the floor.

Her fear is relevant and understandable. Cole understands why she is hesitant. His pass left him broken too. He knows that together they can piece together the broken pieces and find true happiness together. I loved reading about Cole’s devotion to Maddie. He wants her to enjoy life and to never be scared again. You can tell that he truly loves her. D'Agostino brings a realism to the story. You feel the pain that characters are feeling. The author brings an understanding to the characters story. I have read this type of book before and I felt that previous attempts were half assed. D’Agostino takes the story to another level. For those who have experience violence in their lives, you know that Maddie’s reactions are on point. When Maddie goes out in public and is always on edge that is a true feeling of those who have been abused. Her hesitation to begin a relationship with Cole is true. That is what makes this a good story. You know that the author has done their homework to create a story that is worth reading. The villain is of course Maddie’s ex, Richard. This guy is villain personified because he torments her through gifts, letters and memories. Some villains in books you have a love/hate relationship with. Richard, you just plain hate him. He is manipulative and violent. The author does a wonderful job in creating a story that will take the reader on an emotional ride. It is highly recommended but be warned, this book does end in a cliffhanger.

I don't mind cliffhangers at all, but I wish I knew when the next book will be coming out because that ending really tore me. This was a very good read and I found myself so enthralled that I finished it before I knew it! I love reading books that catch my attention and it's hard for me to put down and this one is definitely one of them. I am looking forward to reading more from this author. I think this book will touch and tear you when you read it especially if you've ever been abused by someone else. I've never been in that situation but I could really feel it when I read it.

Maddie is terrified to start anything with a man until Cole wears her down enough to give it a shot. They have several hurdles to jump over with Maddie’s lack of trust, but slowly she learns to trust him. They are healing each other, coming to terms with their pasts and knowing that in the end it will be ok. Until it isn’t……. Yeah that’s how I felt when I got to the end….really…..she really did that to us?!?! Yes this story isn’t original, it’s been done a thousand times, but it was still very good. I couldn’t put it down and needed to know what was going to happen next. I love when a book draws me in and makes me feel and this one didn’t disappoint. Now I NEED that next book!

The story of these two and the trials they both encounter while working towards healing (themselves AND each other) is touching. Told in dual POV, it is fairly well-paced but did get slow in some parts. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger but have no fear, the next book is already out and available so, yay! I am intrigued by Cole and Maddie's story and plan on continuing the journey with them! The Series:

Richard physically and emotionally hurt her, but he also ripped her sense of safety from her as well with his threats. Cole found being with Maddie, made him happy. He knew she had been through quite a terrifying situation with her ex, being abusive. Cole knew he would not let anything happen to her while she was with him. Feeling torn with not being forthcoming with Maddie, Cole knew he could not put off what he had to do and that was be honest with Maddie. Being able to see these two characters interact with one another with trepidation was enlightening. Being able to watch both of their walls come crumbling down and allowing them to open themselves to trust and to love with everything they have. Love this story!

I definitely felt the struggle and the despair that these two characters had. It was very sad in some parts and a few times, I would feel a tear trickle down my cheeks. After getting away from her dick of a boyfriend, Madison closed herself off to everyone. To me, she wasn't really living. She was in this shell, hiding from the outside world. But, I can expect that from someone who's experienced the horrors that she has. I felt sorry for her and there were times when I wanted to reach out and help her. But what I admired most about her, was her sense of righteousness and her bravery. I also really loved Cole. Even though his life was also crap, he could still see the natural beauty in the world, eventually it led him to Maddie. I enjoyed the connection between the two and I felt it to be real. But, what I didn't expect was the mother of a freaking cliffhanger!!! Really!!!! I hate cliffhangers...but let's be real now; who doesn't? So, overall this was very enjoyable and the writing was precise. The character development was on point and the plot was bold and intriguing. I highly recommend this book, and can't wait for the next one.

Someone she should have trusted broken her down until she was no longer a person and it took everything she had to pull herself back up and run. And that's what she does now. When she feels that dangerous sensation creep over her she runs. She's never going to be ready for a relationship. Cole has his own past. As soon as he saw Maddie he was hooked. He didn't realize it at the time, but they are more alike than he could ever imagine. Once he gets an inkling of what she's been through he's bound and determined to make sure she has the courage to fight back should anybody ever put her in that situation again. In the process he's grown quite attached to her, but she keeps rejecting him on the daily basis. He's persistent though. He's not going to give up and he's out to prove to her that he is not like him. This is a gripping story. I mentally screamed at my Kindle and was a sideline cheerleader for Cole. I kept screaming at Maddie that he was the good guy but she wouldn't listen to me. If you want an emotional rollercoaster ride then this book is for you. I may have a book hangerover for a while. Thanks H. D'Agostino! You've ruined me!

After suffering a terrible childhood at the hands of someone who should love and protect a child unconditionally he has lost faith in love, and plays the field, never settling down, until a chance encounter with Maddie. Cole still carries the weight of his past with him. Maddie has demons of her own, and finds trusting people, especially men very difficult. I loved seeing the relationship between Maddie and Cole develop. Watching Maddie grow in confidence throughout this book was beautiful. There were a few times where Maddie frustrated me, but given her abusive past I kind of accepted that the decisions she made were greatly influenced by her past. This book is full of emotions, the overwhelming need to hug both Maddie and Cole was never far from the surface. The author really did an amazing job portraying the emotions both characters felt. There are great secondary characters in this book, and I especially want to know more about Wes. Lastly, this book does end on a cliff hanger...luckily book two, Saving Us is already available! Overall a great story, can't wait to read book two in this series. B2B Lesley

It's only when pure strength from within her, she realises there is a lot she has to live for. And that life would involve Cole Walker. This man, who is persistent, if nothing else knows what he wants. But Madison isn't the only one who has demons. Cole has his own too. Having lived in a broken family for part of his life, all he wants is to be happy. Protecting his mum and sister, Angela, are what are important to him, but when he sees Madison that instinct kicks in for her as well. Although Cole and Madison are the main characters in this book, it was great to see the other characters throughout and how they merge into their lives. I found this to be a great book to start this series. The emotion that is felt and the severity of their issues was wonderful, if not, possibly harsh to read for some. I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this series. Reviewed by Rebecca LLEP Review Team

For both Cole and Maddie the story revolves around these two lost souls that feel that neither one is repairable ever. That they have been broken and non to be fixed. When Cole sees Maddie for the first time he tries to meet her but Maddie is very protective of herself now and wants nothing to do with the introduction. Then there is the second time that Cole sees Maddie out and well that's really not any better. But it is the third time and maybe the charm that will work for these two "Irreparably Broken" individuals to tear their walls down and make a past just that a past.

Aside from that, it is well written, very inspiring in its own way, and definitely gripping with suspense in all the right places! It's not a suspense-filled novel, don't get me wrong, but there is a cliffhanger at the end and a few spots of that *dread* feeling along the way. Just the right amount of hot sex, too! Solely because it kept irritating me with the back and forth, I can only go 3.5 fangs for this one. Also, one thing that bothered me was the repetitive nature of the dual perspectives. I LOVE when I get multiple POVs; but I'm not a big fan of rehashing the scene from both sides. I don’t have any experience with domestic violence or know anyone who has so I think that made it hard for me to understand her. But the plot was good enough that despite the lack of love for the characters, I still wanted to know what happened in book two.

This was a good story. Its hard to read because you cant help but feel for the broken Maddie, (Madison). As a domestic violence survivor her life has been slow getting on track. There are rules to being a survivor..... Do not date, watch your back, dont let any one in, go to meetings and trust your instincts. Then she meets Cole, Cole who has his own demons. Cole spent his whole youth being a punching bag, yet protecting his mother and sister. Wasnt that reversed? Then one day it all went too fa This was a good story.
