Once again I am given the sadistic power of being able to review my own book. This book is the best thing since Fois Ras, and as addicting as blue-embered cigarettes. Though I'm still unsure of that author, shifty little fucker that one. Once again I am given the sadistic power of being able to review my own book. And it begins... Most characters get a POV in this instalment of the Fallocaust series. It works well as there are people spread out in different locations for a good part of the book and there are major story arcs going on. Without using these more personal perspectives it would have been stilted with (potentially) unsympathetic characters. Except Elish, who is already well known through Breaking Jade. I love Reno. Totally loyal, always honest, easy going, capable but self-deprecating. Funny, even if that's to mask deeper feelings of loneliness. A true best friend to Reaver and Killian, even if he likes to tease Killian, or Tinkerbell as he nicknames him - "You know, when Reaver first pointed you out, I really thought you were a bit of a weenie, but I think you're one of my favourite people now." I choked back a laugh, and squeezed him gently. "And I thought you were only his friend because you wanted to get into his pants." "That's cute you think differently." ... "This shit is all way too good for me, you could put a blanket on the patio for me and I'd be happy. I'm less maintenance than a goldfish." But Reno is tested to his emotional limits because of events that involve the Crimstones, a Morosian terrorist group. Reno goes to hell and back and that is all I will say. Reaver is a loose cannon and just fantastic if you enjoy a dark and twisted alpha with an obsessive love for a blonde twink. All I care about is Killian, he is the only one who makes the warmth come to my veins, that makes my insides stir. Only him and no one else... He kills people without blinking an eye but watches over Killian like a precious jewel. This time around he is recovering from events at the end of the fallout at Aras. Processing who and what he is, and what that means. It's moments like these when I understood why they feared what I would become, no, what I had become. It's moments like these where I know I am the clone of the abomination who killed the planet. I am the Reaper. I choose who lives, I choose who dies. He also feels like he has the weight of this dystopian world on his shoulders which darkens his mood even more, and he literally does have so much to think about. But that doesn't stop him from doing what he does best, wreak some havoc. He is responsible for, and at the centre of, some bloody gut-twisting violence and scenes. Jade has a great deal of personal growth and I shudder when I think about what happens to him here. I am worried... Elish Dekker has many plans in place but some of them have created a blip on his radar. How big a blip is about to be discovered by him and will more than likely become personal and unpleasant for the ice man in volume 2. Perish is shady as fuck and interesting facets come to light, but not enough for total clarity. I love this series. It is refreshing, entertaining, nasty and deeply twisted. This book is the darkest in an already very dark series. Reader beware. If you read my longer review please read the tags and warnings first. I thought this was fan fucking tactic, and not an easy thing to do either. The merging of the two previous books, with completely different characters that are both amazing stories, Fallocaust and Breaking Jade, that also are running simultaneously in time, then have them both come smashing together in The Ghost and the Darkness was just brilliant. I nearly didn't read Breaking Jade but I'm SO glad I did because it's all about the bigger picture of WHY Reaver and Killian are SO important and the scheming, manipulative plot that is awaiting them is partially revealed. You just have to read Breaking Jade and you'll actually end up loving Jade as he's like a mixture of Reaver and Killian, yet what happens to him is just fucking horrific. I loved both of those books almost equally, but the underlying horror of watching them smash together like they did in this book was extremely brilliant. Basically is you loved Fallocaust you have to read Breaking Jade because even if you're just a die hard Fallocaust fan, you might find this book still amazing but won't understand the intricacies going on behind it all. Part One of this book ends in another cliffhanger but thankfully it's only just over 2 weeks until Part Two is released. If you love M/M, Sci-Fi and Dystopian Hell On Earth, then this book is setting the scene for watching a plan that's unravelling at terminal velocity as the previous two books smash together, entwine and take off faster preparing you for part two of The Ghost and the Darkness, to be the mother of all clusterfucks. These books are VERY dark and gritty and and I'm no prude but there's some harsh stuff to deal with in all of them. They're extremely amazing yet horrifying at the same time. Thanks Quil, you have one amazing imagination.

Until his dying day I’d protect him. I would make another Fallocaust and kill everyone all over again if it meant he was safe. This series is becoming my new addiction, the plot is getting more twisted if that's even possible and I love the uniqueness of it. If I thought I liked Elish and Reaver before, now I'm totally in love, Reaver is still rough around the edges, violent, unapologetic and I adore him. I truly admired Jade in this installment, his character growth was obvious and it was so good to be in his head. Reading Killian's thoughts made me hurt for him but at the same time, he somehow managed to grate on my nerves by remaining so naive. Now to wait for Volume 2 which is thankfully only weeks away. Elish: ‘Power is the greatest illusion, Jade.’

I’ve read a lot of fucked up stuff but this is easily the most fucked up and disturbing series of events I’ve ever read. Nothing warm and fuzzy about this book at all and no one is safe. But damn this is so well written and developed that I’m in utter awe. Just wow. Next...

I really only have a few things to say because I'm still in a whole lot of hurt, a whole lot of shock, and a whole lot of pissed off. Firstly, this book rocks. It's brutal. So much more brutal than book one and Breaking Jade put together x's 1,000. There are parts so horrific, I had to stop, write to Quil and shake my fists at him before I could go back to reading. But for all the horrid things that happen to the people I love in these hundreds of pages, there were some pretty fucking fantastic scenes. Times I laughed so hard, smiled and giggled. The bonds that were forged are great and will prove to be outstanding for the story later. Surprises that happened, will hopefully prove to be good things later on. Reaver and Killian, Reno and Garrett, Elish and Jade. These men are all so awesome in what they bring to the story. Each one plays his part so perfectly. And where we've left off from them? Holy shit. I can't even imagine where we are going to go next. There will be serious vengeance, that's for sure. This book consumed me for two days straight. I had the worst headache yesterday, right behind and inside my eyes, because I'd read for so long and without blinking. I think the only time I consciously blinked was when Reno did... in that one part. This book isn't for everybody, so read with caution. Don't say you've not been warned. So maybe this is more than a few things, but I'm waiting until I read Vol 2 to really review the whole book. At this point, all I really know is that I loved it so much, even when it tore my heart out... well, I love everything except for (view spoiler)[Perish. I'd like Perish to burn in Hell. 3.5 stars! “No matter what happens, I will come back. I will find my way to you. Never forget that; never forget that, no matter what. I belong to you... and I love you.” So, obviously, I liked the first book much better than book 2 part 1. I'd say, even if someone builds a bridge for me, I think I will never get over my dislike for Elish and Jade. These two just irk me whatever they do. Or sometimes, I just really don't give much of a fuck about them. Sadly, they're like important characters that at the first third of this book I questioned myself if I was really reading Fallocaust 2 or the author just got them scrambled and this was really Breaking Jade 2. I quickly got disappointed when I started this book because I really don't want to be in Jade's head. I think the only time I didn't feel annoyed was when he was seeing through Perish's head. I hated that the drama pretty much started because of Jade's past. (view spoiler)[ Kerres appearing again really made me hate this book so much. It also made me hate Jade more than ever. I almost cried in anger and I was so pissed off because this was supposed to be a book about Killian and Reaver yet Jade was like the main character here! And not to mention I don't like him in general... (hide spoiler)] I almost put the book down. I even thought of just completely dropping the series. But I didn't do it because I really love Reaver and Killian. I also wanted to see the development of another couple's relationship. I was sad when there was no Joaquin and Jem here. Anyway, this wasn't really that of an exciting read for me. I guess I didn't get bored but I wasn't really enthusiastic either. I was in between and that's pretty sad because I totally enjoyed Book 1. I love that moment when Killian and Reaver was having sex while there were blood and corpses around them though. It was pretty hot specially with the background music "Animal by Maroon 5" playing. I also love those moments when I was in Reaver's head. I savor those chapters when moments like these happen; when he's a crazed beast full of vengeance: Fucking hell, I am no hero. I’m the opposite. I’d bomb Skyfall if it ever got into my hands, I’d force them into the greywastes so they could feel what it was like to live in this monotone hell. and then, some times he's like: Time is now a road we no longer walk; we walk our own solemn road above the others, with a bird’s-eye view of their lives from birth to death. We are nothing but deities in the sky watching them live and die as we continue our bleak journey. But above all, I love those moments when we see his heart and his love for Killian. Because it had always been about him, since the day I killed his parents I had claimed him as my own. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I could stay like this forever and I wanted to. I could forget everything... I could forsake my revenge; I could... give everything up just to make sure he was still safe. And then there's Reno. (view spoiler)[ poor baby got kidnapped jut because KERRES DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO FUCKING MOVE ON! (hide spoiler)] I never said I was a hero, and I never wanted to be a hero. I was some fucking sidekick that was always bailed out at the last minute by his Superman. This has been a pretty tough reading experience for me. While I really love Reaver from book 1 and in this book, I also came to really hate him. (view spoiler)[ Chimera thing or not, the fact that the thought of taking Jade had crossed his mind made me see red. I couldn't just accept it. I felt betrayed and I felt really disgusted with him. (hide spoiler)] It was like my belief, my faith for Reaver and Killian's love got stomped. It broke and would never mend again. At the last third of the book, more were revealed such as potential allies and conspiracies. I was glad for more Killian and Reaver moments though, I was kind of a little annoyed with Killian at some point. But at least he knows how to make peace with Reaver quickly. However, as I was reaching the end of the book, I found myself feeling detached from the story. I felt numb inside. Just when the story was getting worse. (view spoiler)[ Specially when Reaver was raped and tortured by Nero. Such horrible gory scenes... (hide spoiler)] yet to my disturbingly sick realization, I found myself smirking and I was rather amused. I died to him cumming inside of me, and he came to me dying. And then as if it didn't happen, I felt hollow again. I didn't feel anything even after the book ended. I still don't know what to expect and what to feel but I'm going to read book 2 part 2 next and we'll see how things will go. ETA 12/03/14:Buddy read with Rin and you can find her review here.

Book 2, Vol.1 of Fallocaust So. This is all about the warning tags. There are many disturbing themes in the series. To name a few: cannibalism, rape, more rape, extreme forms of physical and mental torture, drug use, and scenes written to elicit debilitating fear. Amidst all of that, crazy as it seems, are a number of characters who love fiercely, who are devoted to their partners to the death, and sweet, tender moments that are a drop in the bucket of the grim reality depicted in this story. Amidst all of that, crazy as it seems, are a number of characters who love fiercely, who are devoted to their partners to the death, and sweet, tender moments that are a drop in the bucket of the grim reality depicted in this story. And of course a bunch of sadistic @@@holes that dish out the punishment at any given opportunity. Just for fun, mainly. And because they can. In spite of, or maybe because of all of that, I love this series to pieces. The main characters, Reaver and Killian, are the couple to end all couples for me. Reaver is an established psychopath, genetically engineered to be so, and acts like it. His only redeeming quality is Killian. Like a switch that's flipped on, Reaver's shred of empathy comes to the forefront because of Killian. Mainly towards Killian only, but still. There is some humanity in Reaver. Killian's character is generally disliked from what I've seen in other reviews. I can totally see why. He starts off (in book 1) as this pathetic, whiny little kid. Killian cries. I mean bucket loads of tears with the slightest provocation. It did become a little irritating for me at times, but that's Killian. The light to Reaver's darkness. What appears to be weakness in the unforgiving land of the Greywastes is in fact a strength to be reckoned with. Because he is the only one that can get through to the uncontrollable, unemotional monster that Reaver is growing to become if left to his own devices. The relationship can be volatile, partly because of Reaver's tendency to not care about anything or anyone, and also because Killian starts developing some thicker skin and can throw a tantrum for the ages when he wants his way. But these two together...oh my God! Their intimate moments are few and far between -I don't think it would have been realistic if they were frolicking about among radanimals and ravers attacking them zombie-apocalypse-like left right and centre. But when they happen..."Killi-Kat..?" I melt in a pile of goo and want more more more more more more more every time! So. Back to the book. It's a beast of a plot and I couldn't possibly get into it in a review. Dark, dystopian world, chaos and anarchy in the Greywastes (sort of like the Walking dead), and tyrannical order in Skyfall, where the immortal chimeras, led by King Silas, rule the starving masses (When they're not busy enslaving them or killing them for fun Gladiator style). The main players besides Reaver, who is destined to kill the King as the only other born immortal that we know of, and Killian are: Elish, the cold chimera in charge of Skyfall and his sex-slave/husband/chicaro Jade, Perish the crazy chimera scientist, Garrett the mostly kind chimera, Reno, who is Reaver's best friend and chicaro to Garrett, and a few other military Skyfall figures. Things get CRAZY in this book. Seriously, the plot twists were incredible. The universe that Quil Carter has created is magnificent and with every book the story gets richer and richer. The characters all go through unimaginable pain and suffer tremendously. The resilience they exhibit comes from hope having been snatched from them for so freaking long, that they could either suck it up and toughen up or literally sit down and wait to die. There is no middle ground. There is no give. This is a 500 page book and it's only part one. The only reason I am not a raving lunatic over the horrible cliffhanger at the end is that the second part comes out on November 15th. I am addicted, I tell you. Addicted. All that being said, this is not a perfect book. It's a self-pub. Yes, there are editing issues and typos galore. I personally ignore those when I love a book but I know some of you can't take it so be warned. As more books come out, there are more POVs added. They are necessary because the story unfolds in three different locations simultaneously throughout so we obviously need to know what's going on with characters besides Reaver and Killian. I was pissed in the beginning because there were so many chapters from Reno's POV and I started thinking that this was reading more like a companion book than a main Fallocaust book. It was made clear eventually that Reno's part of the story set in motion several aspects of the plot that unfolded later on so it was necessary that his POV was prominent for the first 20% or so. There was plenty of Reaver and Killian to go by afterward, rest assured. I at least got my fix -ha! I honestly cannot praise this book enough. Heed the warnings and read these in order, especially with the companion book, Breaking Jade, before trying this. If dark, apocalyptic dystopians aren't your thing, don't even bother with this. If they are, this will be your crack for the next however many books Quil Carter indulges us with.

Hmmm... Struggling to put my feelings for this one into words that make sense. While I was just as consumed by The Ghost and the Darkness volume 1, I didn’t love it as much as Fallocaust and Breaking Jade. Part of what makes these books bearable are the lighter moments and the idea that hope exists for the world. Without those things, it becomes oppressive to the point of suffocation. The beginning of The Ghost and the Darkness was light and funny and at times, even sweet. I laughed a lot during the beginning of this book. But then things start to fall apart, as always happens in this world. Having things go to hell is what I know to expect but it felt dragged out and oppressive to the point of being overwhelming. Too much dark and not enough light. Surviving these books mentally is a challenge and there were parts where my brain and heart couldn’t take it. All of the books so far have had graphic, explicit, brutal, torture and rape. Lots and lots of both. Each book takes it too far for my comfort but at least in the first two books, I felt it served the purpose of making it crystal clear what this world is about and showing the nature of individual characters. It was part of painting the picture of how EVIL and twisted these characters are and how brutal the environment is. It felt like the intent was to get an intense visceral response. By now, I get it! This time I felt like I was being bludgeoned and tortured with it. To survive these books, I NEED hope, I need light, I need something to balance the horrific, graphic brutality and darkness. For me, the balance was weighted too heavily to the dark and it took too long to get relief from the agony during some of the arcs. Rating break down: 5 stars for how it consumed me. 4 stars for character evolution (Killian you little badass! Reaver you impressed me. Perish you surprised me. Reno, Reno, Reno <3 <3 <3) 3 stars for plot development. 0 stars for bludgeoning me nearly to the point of no return with the torture and rape. 3 sad stars Now I’m anxiously off to The Ghost and the Darkness volume 2.

Okay, so I was expecting a certain situation to happen here...I had thought I was prepared mentally to experience it...I was wrong. :( It ruined me. I didn't know that would be the extent of it...It felt like years had gone by when this happened, page after page of grueling detail and considering it was my favorite character I really wanted to just through my iPad across the room as he went insane. I cried....Not surprising. One character, I wondered why his situation changed as it did. I liked it better when he was angry and antisocial and homesick, which we see a lot in this one, but whatever. I still love him. Chimeras, man...Chimeras. Chimeras, karma, homesickness, rape (of course), kidnapping, dumb mistakes, depression, fear, death and immortality. Those are the highlights of this one, I feel. I might cry just thinking about all of this again... Anyways, a must-read. Especially if you've read all the others. Grammar and writing was a bit sketchy at times but I was still able to look past it to enjoy the juice of the story. Favorite/most-hated quote: "I fuck kings."

I have been waiting for this book since finishing Fallocaust Vol 1 and I have to say it was totally worth the wait! I loved jumping right back into the dark and awesomely disturbing world that Quil Carter has created. Everything that attracted me to Fallocaust is here, the dystopian darkness and the looming hope, the characters evolution through the story, each of them growing but still at the core who I fell in love with in the first book was amazing. This is a perfect follow up to Vol 1! You wi I have been waiting for this book since finishing Fallocaust Vol 1 and I have to say it was totally worth the wait! Ok so after i read this i couldn't even take the time to write a review before i started the next one. I wish i could elaborate but i am not quite sure where volume one ended and two started. As we all know. This is a hard book to review without giving up secrets (and there are lots of secrets) There is so much going on at one time. So many secrets being kept. So many people you cannot trust. Ugh … this has got to be the most frustrating thing to try to fit words to my feelings for this book. For those looking for a gruesome love story with enough darkness to wipe out the earth, then this series is for you.

It's possibly 4.5-5 stars but I'm so bloody mad I'll leave it at 4. I swear everyone in this series is horribly tortured or butchered. Why am I reading this? Don't frigging know except the writing is brilliant and the story compelling with a strong cast of characters. You constantly want to know what happens next but then wished you didn't find out. I don't think I can take any more. *while I download the next volume* It's possibly 4.5-5 stars but I'm so bloody mad I'll leave it at 4. Are you kidding me with this book?! I honestly didn't know how it was going to be better than the other two, but it so fucking was. I cannot wait for vol 2 because Reaver seriously needs to get his revenge. Are you kidding me with this book?! I can't believe I actually read this the past 2 hours. My depraved mind... This series will basically make you go WTF the entire time. It's like the author just wanted to throw as much disturbing shit in here as possible-rape, torture, cannibalism, violence, rinse, and repeat. It bordered on ludicrous, so it wasn't really disturbing. The writing really isn't so great. There's lots of typos. All the characters are still running around acting like freakin psychos and/or budding serial killers. (But I can't believe I actually read this the past 2 hours. My depraved mind... Full review of on The Ghost and the Darkness Volume 1 and 2 Well, this is where Quil Carter destroys everyone. Almost ever single character goes through a personality shift caused by some type of trauma. Oddly enough Elish, the sadistic cold bastard, is the only who has remained somewhat stable and consistent. Take what comfort you can from that, I have. Quil Carter enjoys throwing a wrench into any moments of peace of joy. I am so invested in their love story, and incredibly terrified of what will become of them. I keep having to remind myself these are all kids, in their late teenage years... so I expect things to fall apart, mend and fall apart again. onward

Brilliant as Usual Quill, you are going to literally kill me. I barely breathed throughout the entire book. SPOILER - How dare you leave me with poor little Killian looking at Perish just so the kid sees a damn slave collar! Jade. Oh poor Jade. He can't be dead, right? Right? At least Reaver was saved. - END SPOILER It is so funny when you read a really fantastic book it seems like it took no time at all to read. I flew through this one faster than the first one. Amaze-balls!! I LOVE THIS SERIES!! Every character has taken on a life! They are real! This isn't really fiction is it? Reaver....Killian....Jade.....Oh. My! I have run through a maze of emotions and I'm in a state of awe of this author's creative genius. I mean, where in the F#%K did he come up this SH!T? I am so worn out from the trip that I need to rest before I can even start to think about reading volume 2. There is no way 5 stars is high enough to rate this series. No. Way. Amaze-balls!!
