Disclaimer: I received this series from the publisher in request for honest feedback. The Earth Ship Siren (aka ES Siren) series includes three novella-length books written by three different authors. I will be reviewing each of the three books separately, in order. They all center around life aboard a space ship heading away from a dying Earth and towards a colonization planet. On board the ship are military personal, private citizens, and prisoners selected for their skills or for hard labor. E Disclaimer: I received this series from the publisher in request for honest feedback. Each book is a stand-alone, each has a different story to offer on board the Siren, and each did so with varying degrees of success. Unfortunately, Yours To Uncover missed the mark with me on several points. As book 1 in the series, it has the important task of setting up the series for the reader, leading them into purchasing the other books. While I think each book can be a stand-alone read, I choose to always read books in order. If I had read this one and not received the others via the publisher, I wouldn't be purchasing books 2 or 3, which is a shame. The good points about Yours To Uncover is that it does a good job setting up the world on board the Siren, explaining why there are prisoners on board and why they are leaving Earth. There is a decent plot going on regarding Tristan, why he ended up as a prisoner and his art. That's where the good points stop for me in this short read. Rita made no sense to me as a character. She was in the army, she had a whip, she was a prisoner warden and she repeatedly said she was stronger than what the men were thinking because she grew up in a rough neighborhood stealing and scrapping to survive. Except, she wasn't. She continually stated how she was with Zane for 'protection', and how Tristan would be a better protector, and how she needed protection. She seemed to be an army warden by title only, simply to explain what she was doing on the ship and how she had access to the prisoner she falls quickly in lusty love with. I don't think all these character issues can be explained-away by the sexmeth wine, either. There were also a few strange asides that bugged me, such as her parent's one wish was that she get pregnant - as if her worth as a human being/woman was reduced to having a baby and carrying on the genetic line, which was followed by the info-dump explaining how she was on birth control. There was also the fact that she chose not to report to her Major about the sexmeth until way after the fact. Again, it made no sense to me, but neither did the ending - except that it wrapped everything up quickly, neatly and conveniently. I will be trying other books by this author, though, because I did like the interesting storyline with Tristan. I just think this particular story with its heroine just wasn't my cup of tea.

With a few, swift keystrokes, author Mel Teshco manages to create one of the most unlikable, completely inconsistent female characters I've read in a long, long time. This futuristic world that has been created by the three authors that pen each book in this series is what saves this story for me. However's Rita's supremely moronic and inconsistent actions on the ship - regarding her love life with a sadistic lieutenant for "protection", then jumping into the prison cell with a "whites" prisoner for a quickie, followed by a public dumping of her mean and crazy "protector." My head was spinning with the stupidity of Rita, who additionally becomes the naked subject of a variety of erotic oil on canvas masterpieces by her criminal lover. I'm reading on in the series - Shona Husk is the next author, and I do like the world that's been created. But for Rita Songworth, I hold little hope. Except, perhaps, an open airlock.

Well this is a different take on sci fi romance I must say. This is the first in a series written by three established authors Mel Teshco, Shona Husk and (new to me) Denise Rossetti. These talented authors have decided to create a series of short and very sexy stories set in a possible and turbulent future. Earth is dying and without its natural resources humanity is on the brink of extinction. A chance at a fresh start on a planet far away for some is a blessing and yet for others a curse. These talented authors have decided to create a series of short and very sexy stories set in a possible and turbulent future. Earth is dying and without its natural resources humanity is on the brink of extinction. A chance at a fresh start on a planet far away for some is a blessing and yet for others a curse. Three space ships are launched in the desperate hope of establishing a new colony but not all aboard are there from choice. These travellers are composed of a mixture of military and civilians with skills needed to create a new world but there's also prisoners who are there to do the back breaking work that will be needed. It's a small hope that these people cling to but they have no other choice. Rita is a career soldier who has worked her ass off to get where she is, now on board the Siren she begins her journey to the planet they have named Unity but leaving her family behind to face certain death is not easy for her to do. She's heavily involved with Kane her lieutenant but it's a relationship that is quickly turning sour. He's a brute and it's clear to Rita that breaking up with him is the sensible thing to do but Kane is not the sort to go quietly. Rita is fascinated by one of the prisoners Tristan known as prisoner 1588 but his crimes are heinous and he is categorised as a "white" prisoner meaning he is one of the most dangerous on board. Yet when Rita looks at him she sees a man with the soul of an artist and seeks him out whenever she can. Life on board the Siren is fraught with danger and corruption though and as Rita gets closer to prisoner 1588 her secret fantasies are about to come true but there's one man on board who will stop at nothing to hurt Rita. Kane doesn't share and he doesn't give up what he thinks is his, if he uncovers the truth there's no way he will walk quietly away. Rita is well and truly caught in a situation that's getting worse by the minute with nowhere to turn but in space anything can happen! So this book which is admittedly short had quite a lot happening in it. There's a sense of immediacy about it that I liked and from the start this reader felt empathy for the heroine Rita. She's never going to see her parents again and has thrown her lot in with Kane in the faint hope that in this new world they are being thrust into he will protect her. I guess some will see her as weak for that but I think I can understand that she is trying to be practical and choose strong allies. Unfortunately what Rita hadn't realised was the fact that it might be Kane himself who she needs protection from. He is a bully and a bit of a sadist but he is in a privileged position on board ship and there's none who would seek to challenge him. The character of Tristan or prisoner 1588 felt a little less realistic to me. He has been convicted of murder and it's either agree to join the fleet traveling to a new world or face certain death. As a highly thought of artist his paintings will be a valuable record of the journey and transition and so he is forced to paint what he sees. I just kept asking myself why they just didn't take photographs ? Although I do understand that valuable talents and skills would be in great demand as a new colony of humans emerged on their new planet. I have no wish to ruin the story with lots of spoilers but the crime he has been convicted of is far more complicated then it seems at first . So it's well written although it did seem to speed up towards the end. I hated Kane and thought he was a most obnoxious and twisted individual. If you are in the mood for a quick and sexy read then this would certainly fit the bill but it has quite a rushed ending which for me let it down slightly. The next book is Shona Husks offering so it will be interesting to find out what she contributes to this journey.

On board the Siren, Rita is involved in a relationship with Lieutenant Zane. Zane is an arrogant, cruel, and sadistic lover, but Rita suffers his attentions in exchange for his protection. Also on board the Siren are prisoners who have been selected for their various abilities and talents to contribute to the new colony. Rita has developed an attraction to prisoner 1588, Tristan MacFallan, a much-sought-after artist. Tristan also feels an attraction to Rita, but, given his captivity, past crimes, and her relationship with the lieutenant, he feels that a sexual relationship is all that can be. After Tristan and Rita’s first encounter, both feel the effects of a growing attraction. But, with the jealous Zane on the prowl, both Tristan and Rita must find a way to protect the other from his retribution. Yours to Uncover is the first installment in the new ES Siren series. I am a diehard fan of sci-fi romance, so I was very pleased to have the chance to read this story. Mel Teshco creates a new world that is set two centuries in the future. This was a short story, so details about Earth, society, and the new Earth colony were not discussed in depth, but I feel that just enough information was given to make the setting realistic and believable. Rita and Tristan were strong characters, but at times I had difficulty feeling fully invested in their relationship. Rita seemed to have her head on straight and never cowered from conflict or adversity. She was so capable that at times I wondered why she even needed Zane’s protection in the first place. Tristan, even though he was a prisoner, somehow found ways to stand up to Zane and establish himself as a worthy hero. One subplot of the story deals with Tristan’s past crimes, and the mystery behind that was enough to keep me intrigued. This story was short, sweet, and a bit predictable. There is insta-lust, bad guys, love triangles, crime, and a dying Earth – all common conventions seen in sci-fi and romance genres. One area I would have liked to see some improvement on was Tristan and Rita’s attraction. I was not always convinced that their attraction was so all-consuming that they would take such personal risks to be with/protect the other. Also, Ms. Teshco implied that an attraction between the two existed prior to the beginning of the story. This made me feel a bit left-out because I could not experience their relationship from the very beginning. Finally, I would have liked a bit more insight into the couple’s future relationship once they reach the Unity colony. I know that short stories can only go on for so long, but a short epilogue would have made me very happy. I plan to try future installments of the ES Siren series, and I will keep a lookout for further mentions of Rita and Tristan. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

He's been accused of (view spoiler)[murdering his wife and unborn child (hide spoiler)] and has to work the rest of his life for this Ship. Ok, so this book has a forbidden love and I enjoyed it. Now, I'm going to read the next book in the series Yours to Command which is written by another author, Shona Husk. ***ARC received through Netgalley in exchange of an honest review***

Hmm, this looked really interesting when I got it (and at least one sequel) on Amazon. However, I found myself unable to identify with the heroine and didn't find the relationship with the hero believable. Then there is the highly questionable relationship that Rita spent so much time in, her many actions that I thought were on the dumb side, and the lack of much more than heated glances to build the relationship that turns into love with about 100 words exchanged over its course. For instance, Rita runs around various parts of the ship, using her key card to open locked doors. Isn't there a record kept of whose key opened which door and the time? It's never mentioned, and she thinks no one knows what's going on if they don't have direct line of sight. And she's supposed to have some street experience. If so, she only survived through luck, not any level of intelligence. Her willingness to justify being in an abusive relationship for 'safety' yet be put out because people don't take her as seriously as she'd like is contradictory. She thinks she's strong but chose to cosy up to her superior officer for the sake of security. If she's strong, she doesn't need to put out for protection's sake. Especially since she's supposed to be a soldier. Overall, I didn't find this very interesting and was glad it was short.

I am a definite Sci-fi lover, and this was a good start to the three novellas written by three different authors about the E S Siren adventures. This novella spoke of a polluted Earth and those who had been chosen to travel to a new world that may be harsh but would at least be livable aboard a huge spacecraft called the E S Siren. I enjoyed the romance between Tristan and Rita. He was a prisoner, an artist, and she was an officer. And, we had a real psycho villain in Zane, another officer. Although Earth was devastated and many were dying, the conditions aboard the Siren were not much better unless you had something to barter with, like tokens. The food was not great, the water was unpalatable, however compared to Earth, at least there were readily available rations. The Elite onboard, the higher class, who could afford it or the lower echelons who earned their tokens in other more demeaning ways, could purchase nicer things for a price. There was also a drug involved, which reminded me of rohypnol but with stronger, different side effects that were definitely incapacitating. I am hoping we learn more about this couple in the next two stories. Looking forward to reading them. Recommended for Sci-fi lovers who enjoy a quick read!

I’m not going to go into the storyline, because realistically there is more of one in the book blurb than in the actual book (I am not exaggerating), so let me see if I can sum this up in a way that makes sense: Have you ever thought “Gee, I’d like to read the script for one of those abysmally acted soft-core Skinemax shows”? If so, I suppose you would be the one person to whom I could recommend this book. For the sake of full disclosure it must be stated that I received this book, free of charge, from Netgalley.

Yum! That is what this book was plain and simple yum. The storyline kept you wanting to rad and the erotic romance kept you hot and bothered. Yours to Uncover had steamy scenes plus a twisted officer that had what was coming to him. No wonder Rita feel for the better man. Nothing but a bunch of horny space travellers I love a steamy sci fi as much as the next person. But what I don’t really like is a romance author trying to do sci fi. I would imagine technology would have come a long way in the year 2200-ish, ie opening doors using a chip, the prevention of smuggling illegal substances on board such as “sexmeth”, synthetic alcohol for human consumption and water recycling. That aside, Tristran and rita’s attraction was instant and some steamy sex scenes thrown in. Nothing but a bunch of horny space travellers I love a steamy sci fi as much as the next person. The Scientists have already made their base and done basic exploring. Now it's time for the first flow of pioneers to make it ready for anyone else who is chosen to transplant. It's supposed to be a new beginning but just like everywhere else there are those who are in it for themselves, those that are on power trips and those that dare to love. Mel Teshco begins the saga with the story of a woman who dares to truly love. Walking away from the "sure" thing and finding love in a most unlikely place. Rita Songworth has escaped earth with her parents blessing. Knowing that they will probably not survive much longer. Wanting to ensure that she had the best protection available she connected with her superior officer(Lt. Zane Andrews), who you guessed it was a seriously demented man. Rita may be sleeping with one man, the "right" man, but she is intrigued by another. A prisoner no less. Supposedly a murderer and a madman... Tristan MacFallan had it all on earth. An artist on the rise, a sponsor who provided him with safe housing, a wife and a baby on the way. Until one day he woke up in a pool of blood. Accused of murdering his beloved wife and unborn child, Tristan is sentenced to life on Solitaire.. If only he can survive the trip. His only escape, his painting and the sexy chief who seems to return his affections. This is a down and dirty book. Things one would expect on a prisoner ship. Fights (typical to cage fighting), corruption, greed, amoral behavior and plenty of sex. While I am iffy about those items all combined it is a well done sci-fi type of romance. The story is compelling and I seriously cheered for Rita and Tristan.. A great lead into book 2. For me, any story where some rich and powerful man makes things very hard for our heroine and her underdog hero is one I’ll avoid. For example, Titanic. The injustices thrust upon our hero and heroine are so stressful I’ll move on to something else. Granted, everyone saw the movie, loved the move, and it made a lot of money but that particular storyline is one I avoid as much as possible. In this case, however, I requested a copy for review so I stuck with it. If I hadn’t requested a copy for review it would have slipped quietly off my kindle. So why did I request it? The covers are gorgeous and I'm a big fan of sic-fi romance. I found moving through something in my “avoid” list was not only good for me (yes, we're not always going to review books we'd pick out for ourselves), but in the process I found an author I’ll read more of and a great series to continue. I like the way this series portrays our heroes as disadvantaged (they are prisoners, chosen for their strong backs or because they have skills useful in building a successful colony) and the heroines are women of rank among the solders in charge of their journey. In Yours to Uncover, this doesn't prevent the heroes from being strong characters. They are in no way weak. Zane (as he's called in the story) or Kane (as he's called in the blurb) is sick, despicable and mean. Everything I'd expect from the mess of a Lieutenant cast to spoil the relationship between Rita and Tristan. Overall, I enjoyed Teshco's writing and found the world building and character development to be as much as can be done considering a novella. I know this type of against the odds love story is popular and if it's your thing, then here it is.

The guilt is pure torture... Even though they wanted her to... She still left them to die. She also is stuck in a relationship with the sadistic and abusive elite Lieutenant Andrew Zane who she is too scared to leave even though all she can think about is the mysterious whites prisoner Tristan who is a very talented artist. Will she ever be free of Zane? What did Tristan do exactly to get sentancednto death or relocation? Lieutenant Zane has a sick and twisted obsession with Rita and feels like she is his own personal property. He uses and abuses her at his leisure and keeps close tabs on her as control is all he cares about. He also seems to be obsessed with the artistic prisoner and his unsanctioned rule breaking prisoner fights. Will he ever have to answer for his crimes? What will he do if Rita ever screws up the courage to leave him? What is his deal with Tristan anyways? Tristan believes he is a bad and insane man. Even though he cannot remember what happened he believes he blacked out and is somehow guilty of a heinous crime. Why did he do it?! Will he black out and do it again? He is completely obsessed and drawn to Rita but is afraid he will black out and destroy her too of she gets close to him. Will he ever remember what happened to land him in jail? Is Rita worth the risk to both of them if they explore their mutual attraction? This was an imaginative and suspenseful SciFi story both apocalyptic and dystopian in nature. The characters were well thought out and the plot was convoluted I just wish it was longer! I will definitely be reading Yours to Command: ES Siren 2 next! ***This series is suitable for adult readers

Rita’s attraction to Tristan is forbidden since he is a prisoner but she can’t deny the strong attraction she feels for him and Tristan is consumed by guilt for wanting Rita after the things he’s been accused of doing. The reader can’t help but get caught up in the drama and excitement of their budding romance and the situation is further complicated by Rita’s lieutenant and ex-lover, whose malicious intent and betrayals are uncovered, The story is an enjoyable and entertaining quick read in a fascinating futuristic setting but unfortunately for me I was left with too many questions at the end which dimmed my enjoyment – my curse of too much curiosity. 3 ½ STARS

I was not familiar with the writing of Mel Teshco so Yours to Uncover: ES Siren 1 is the first I have read by her. This futuristic Star Trek type of story is an okay read. it is a novella that I was able to read in one sitting. I liked the premise of a new colony being developed on a distant planet after earth has been used and abuse over time. I did feel, however, that the word creation of this space ship was not as such, so that I could see and imagine the world of the characters. I liked the premise of a new colony being developed on a distant planet after earth has been used and abuse over time. I did feel, however, that the word creation of this space ship was not as such, so that I could see and imagine the world of the characters. I had questions concerning the pecking order on the ship among the inhabitants. Mostly, I felt the sex overwhelmed the story line and character development. However, it deserves better than a 3 so an extra half star is added for the strong line between good and evil that is drawn in this story. The villain, Zane is not excused by his sad childhood. His treatment of Rita Songworth and nearly everyone else is atrocious. This is the first in the series. The following stories have the added benefit of Ms. Teshco having paved the way in helping the reader to understand this relocation trip. I am hopeful that they will build on the world she has begun to create. Copy provided by NetGalley for an honest review. 3 1/2 stars

ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I really loved the romance between Tristan and Rita. The steam and hotness factor was off the charts and drove me wild. To me it made the third and second book even better and I can't wait to see where this series goes from here. The potential is there for when they reach Unity. This is definitely a series worth the read and I would recommend it to anyone who loves Sci Fi Erotica.

I liked the cover, so I requested this book. Sci Fi and erotica... sign me up! The book was definitely more in the sci fi realm, I thought. But it did have a few erotica scenes (I've read more elaborate erotica before). I liked the main characters, and the bad guy was definitely a bad guy-- he wore evil well. But I feel the book was wwwwaaaayyyyyyyy too short for my liking. I wanted to read more! Then I find out book 2 and book 3 of the series isn't even with the same characters *gasp* I'm left I liked the cover, so I requested this book. Sci Fi and erotica... sign me up! Anyway, I'd put this in the 'soft porn' category, so if that's your thing then check out this book.

This book really wasn't bad, but it was a little too fast paced for my liking. Tristan and Rita are strangers at the beginning and married by the end. It was an interesting book with the space ship and the storyline was intriguing but I think that the relationship progress and the character development was really fast paced and made it less realistic and I didn't feel as attached to the characters. This was not what I hoped for. It was a Bit dark which would have been ok if the characters would have been more interesting. I found myself skipping through the pages in the second half A copy was provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review Detailed review to come
