The only thing inevitable in love is despair. I knew from the start that he would wreck me. Nothing could have prepared me for the day he walked into my life ... or the day he walked out of it. I self-destructed. All that remained was a shell of the girl I once was. SHATTERED. And I don't know if I'll ever recover. The only thing inevitable in love is despair. I don't even no where to begin to explain to you all how absolutely amazing this book is! I am floored that this is B.L.'s debut book! It was so well written and she tells such a amazing story! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I’m seriously considering giving up Y/A N/A altogether since they all seem to follow the same damn pattern. Usually, I follow six rules when I write a review and today those rules seem perfect since they’ll give me the opportunity to explain exactly why I didn’t liked this book. 1 Premise This is where I come short because I have no effing clue what this book is about. No plot, no story. Nada. Zero. 2 Characters Oh, boy. Full rant mode ON. I hated every single one of them. No exception. No plot, no story. Nada. Zero. 2 Characters Oh, boy. Full rant mode ON. I hated every single one of them. No exception. This is a first even for me. I’ll start with the heroine, Ivy. This girl is the poster child for Sluts R Us. She does nothing but complain about her family, drink until she passes out wherever she goes and sleep with every guy that catches her eye. Oh, but she has a Major in Art History and loves classic literature and that makes it alright. Give me a fucking break! I am so tired of reading about women/girls who live only to party and drink until they pass out and sleep with a new guy every single day. What the eff is this? Why would you write a female character like this? She’s nothing but a spoiled brat who grew up in a rich family which now she claims that they hate her. No shit? I wonder why since she’s been a pain in the ass since she hit her teen years. To “defy” them, she’s lost her virginity at an age I won’t even mention and then proceeded to sleep with every decent looking guy that crossed her path. Including all of her sisters’ boyfriends. Not ex. She slept with them while they were involved with her sister. While I can’t say this was entirely her doing (assholes), how in the world can she excuse such behavior. Ok, she hates the other woman and wants to get back at her but where the hell is her self respect? Then, she gets involved with a guy and cheats on him repeatedly. The pattern never changes. Parties, alcohol, sex. I understand being a student and feeling free. I’ve been there too but I didn’t turned into a slut nor did I drown myself in alcohol. And her excuses for all this are lame. Her family doesn’t appreciate her like they do her sister and she doesn’t want to follow their lead and became their creation. This is bullshit. Especially when she claims to be her own person and not give a shit. She’s just selfish, irresponsible (which won’t come without consequences), spoiled and stupid. Then there’s Phoenix. This guy is every woman’s dream. Attentive, without flaws, supportive, hard working, romantic, loves all the things she loves, he leads a healthy life.. etc… Gah! Oh, and he’s the only guy on the whole planet who actually doesn’t like technology and his cell phone is a 13 years old model. Seriously? I hated his fucking guts! How can you relate to someone like that? This guy gave me an inferiority complex. No way in hell can a person be this perfect. He says all the right things at the right time and he’s ready to make kind of sacrifice so she can follow her dream and still be together. Doesn’t matter he’s met her at a party in a house full of drunk people and then she preceeded on passing out from all the alcohol she’s imbibed. All this “love” after spending only a few hours together. Can you believe it? But he pretends to see behind her façade so it’s okay. Now, let me introduce Rachel, Ivy’s best friend. Let me tell you one thing, if my best friend sees me behave like this, putting myself in harm’s way and she doesn’t drag me out by my hair kicking and screaming just to hit me upside the head and make me realize what the hell I’m doing, then she’s not worth my time and affection. Not only does Rachel know and sees what she does but she also encourages Ivy to go on. What kind of best friend is that who pushes you down the path of self destruction? God save me from this kind of people. But since she’s just a spoiled brat like Ivy I shouldn’t be surprised. Ivy’s family is not even worth mentioning. Her mother is a pretentious, heartless bitch, her sister is as frivolous as they come and her father is a weak, pathetic men who’s under his wife’s shoe and never stands up for the daughter he claims to love so much. The sister’s fiancée… a rapist who gets away with it just because he comes from an equally rich family. Do you understand now why I hated every single character? 3 The Journey Painful. Let’s not even go there. My IQ dropped a few points while reading this crap and a good number of neurons committed suicide so, yeah … 4 Writing Nope. Next. 5 Ending. I really hope she’s not planning on turning this into a series but, by the way she ended it, I’m afraid that’ll be the outcome. I don’t care either way since I’m not planning on reading any more of her books. 6 Overall Why the fuck did I pick this book for review?? Happy Reading!!

Update: 9-29-14 review Hmmm...my thoughts are going to be hard to put into words. You see, BL is a friend of mine, but don't let my rating think I am bias. I have many self-pub and published author friends and I am afraid to say that I can be harsh in my reviews. Debut stories. Wow. Some of them are amazing and some of them flop and that's okay. It's the first one, it's allowed to flop. That is SOOO NOT the case with Love Nouveau. Holy sheep! I was so amazed. So impressed. So proud of BL's writing/story telling. Ivy man. Ivy is my sister from another mister. I adored her. Loved her. I wanted to bring her home and wrap her in a blanket and cuddle with her-and not like a teenage boy fantasy way either ;) Ivy left the States for a year to get away her senior year of college. Her family is ridiculous and she needed a break. She changed while in Italy and for the better. Then she has to go home. Go back to the family she wishes were different. I cried for Ivy and her cold hearted family. Her mother and sister were...there are no words. I really don't even understand why she bothered. (view spoiler)[She said because she needed them before she could get on her feet, but couldn't she have stayed with Rachel? That would have been a better bet. Also, I would have bowed out of Gen's wedding. Eff her. What has that family ever done for Ivy? (hide spoiler)] Ivy meets Phoenix and holy sheep. Phoenix is one drool worthy man. So sweet. The words he said. Swoon worthy. Not even joking. Phoenix was exactly what Ivy needed. GAH! The dates, the texts, the phone calls. Panty droppers. For real. Holy hell. Then something happens. No, I am not going to tell you. You're going to have to read it to find out what. I think my heart broke. I cried for everything that ever happened to Ivy's life. There were so many scenes that stood out for me. So many things relatable that could happen to anyone. So many things I loved in this story. The only thing I didn't love? It ended. I wasn't ready for it to be over. Fair warning. Love Nouveau doesn't have a lot of sex in it. So this isn't going to be your smutty read. I am perfectly fine with that. I didn't even miss the sex in this story. But, some might, so I thought I would put it out there. If you don't read this because of the lack of sex, you are seriously missing out. I get more in 2015 and I am so stoked :) September 8th, 2014 update. WE HAVE A COVER!!!!

Amazing. Breathtaking. Feels. Love. Friendship. Inspiring. Class act. Not only do these words describe the book, but also the author. Not your typical bad boy but he will leave his imprint on you with his sweet words and characteristics. "Because once you find what you love, you need to let it consume you and then completely kill you. I dare you to find someone who needs you more than I do. Who wants you more than I do." Ivy is an all around sweet girl, with a dash of independence, a sprinkle of bit€%, and your biggest ally for self-worth. She will make you question your own thoughts as well as how you can be your own person, stay true to yourself, and still support the ones who bring you down. She is strong. She is fierce. Together? Dynamic. Explosive. Inevitable. BL will throw you curve balls. She will leave you messaging her at all hours of the night for more Phoivy. She will have you wanting to throw your kindle and throw a toddler tantrum. However, she will leave you with a sense of self-identity and an overall understanding of heart-shattering love. Ivy HAUNTED me, Her story wrecked me. The unbearable pain she went through moved me to tears. So true to life it made my heart ache. However underneath the pain she endures is a story of love and friendship. One that will transcend distance and obstacles. Love Nouveau was a profoundly powerful and moving read. I implore you to take this journey with Ivy through the burdens of her past and the hope for her future. Truly an unforgettable story!!!

I really enjoyed this debut book by BL Berry. I felt bad for Ivy at times. She had such a hard life with her family even though her typical lifestyle was privileged. At times she was annoying to me, but I just don't think she knew how to express herself or feel at times. She used people and let people use her. What she went through was heartbreaking and I'm glad she was able to meet such a great man in Phoenix. He never gave up and at times I kept thinking, why?? 4 stars Love Nouveau is a debut novel that's full of life and love. One day I was casually scrolling Facebook, as I usually do, just minding my own business. Now I normally try to stay away from these groups because I feel like I get a million different notifications a day from them. Anyways, this particular book caught my eye. I went and read the synopsis and I was sold. I had to HAVE this book. I just had to. Well, I got it and I couldn't have been more happy with the outcome. The story starts off with Ivy coming back from a year abroad in Italy studying art history. While in Italy, she learns her sister is getting married and she couldn't be more thrilled. No, actually she's not. See, Ivy and her family don't exactly get along. At all. They are those rich folks that think they are better than everyone, and the type that are all about appearances. They were not happy when they learned Ivy was getting into art and not a more "prominent" job. Such as a lawyer or a doctor. The night she arrives in the states where her college is located, she meets a boy. Not just any boy, a special one. The type that makes you fall in love. His name is Phoenix and he's completely, and absolutely swoonworthy. First and foremost, he's a gentlemen, and he listens, I mean really listens to Ivy. From that day forward, nothing will ever be the same between them. Throughout the book, both Ivy and Phoenix have a long distance relationship of sorts. Every night they talk and with those nights, they grow closer and closer. I loved this aspect because it goes to show that relationships aren't just about the sex. There's such thing as getting to know each other and falling with just words alone. There were instances where i would have loved to smack Ivy because of assumptions she made. Then I gave her the benefit of the doubt because let'a face every girl has done what she's done. Also I really felt for her; she got the shitty end of the stick when it came to families. That mother, if you can even call her that, she makes the evil step mother look nice. If that can give you any idea how she may be. If your looking for a new book that focuses on a girl who learns what it's like to live and live for her, this is the book for you. It also focuses on finding love, family, and what it means to follow your dreams.

What a great story. Beautiful, the characters felt so real, the lines, the dialogue, the things Phoenix says and does. As soon as Phoenix and Ivy meet, they know there is something special between them. I fell in love with this book!!! The characters are flawed, the plot twists and turns, and the story is written with a beautiful fluidity. I got a strong Gossip Girl/Cruel Intentions feel from this one, and I really dug that. Phoenix grabbed me from the very beginning, and I grew to love Ivy as the story unfolded. Then just when I thought I had it all figured out, BL turned me upside down again. Such an amazing book! I highly recommend it!

4 stars for the first half and 3 for the second half. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I both liked and hated this book. The heroine was a PAIN IN THE ASS. None of her decisions are justified in ways that a reader can relate to. Phoenix, on the other hand, is STAND OUT. I was so engrossed with this amazing storyline that it left a huge impact on me. You will fall in love with some of the characters and you will hate others but make there is no question that once you start reading this you will be completely drawn in. Ivy’s is sweet, strong, loyal and independent woman. She is fierce and knows what she wants out of life. She knows that she is not the priority in her family but she doesn’t let that stop her from pursuing her dreams. She does not make excuses for herself and is very open about what she wants. She wasn’t happy in her previous relationship with Matt and because of that she no longer believes in committing to relationships. Ivy has been in Italy for a year studying the history of art. She comes back to the states for her graduation and because her sister Genevieve is getting married. Ivy is not really happy with the idea of having to see her family or having to play maid of honor to a sister that constantly puts her down. Her parents are all about appearances and Genevieve. They were upset that Ivy did not want to become a lawyer or a doctor, and they had no problem showing their disappointment by putting her down constantly about her choice. “So when do your folks roll into town for the main event?” “They don’t. My mom emailed me earlier to let me know they aren’t coming up for graduation. Apparently Gen and her fiancé have some wedding crap they’ve roped the whole family into attending. Then she laid it on think about me choosing to be here, at my graduation, and not back in Chicago with them.” “Oh, Ivy. If you’re jealous about me getting married, it’s okay. Your day will come eventually.” Ivy and her best friend Rachel decide to go out the first night she is back in the States and that’s where she meets Phoenix. You can tell by the authors writing that this is just not any guy. Phoenix and Ivy spend the night talking, he calms her, he holds her attention and for Ivy this is refreshing. Phoenix is not the brooding, tattoo type of guy, his actions will make you fall in love with him. He was thoughtful, a gentlemen, and was very interested in Ivy. What starts as a conversation gradually becomes more. Throughout the story Ivy and Phoenix develope a relationship with meaning, even though they are both miles apart. “I hate not knowing when I get to see you next, so I bought an iPhone so we can video chat.” Phoenix is definitely my new BBF. I loved that both he and Ivy spend hours talking on the phone every night and become closer to one another. Let me say that I love that the author did not just base their feelings for one another off sex. The buildup to their relationship was refreshing and so enjoyable to read. Phoenix is not the usual bad boy I normally gravitate towards but I can tell you I will be thinking about him for days to come. Their feelings took time, progressed slowly and it held more meaning for me. I loved how they both really got to know one another before things got intense. “I want to be with you in every sense of the word. I want to take my time with you. I want you to beg me, possess me. I want you in my hotel room and I don’t want to see the light of day until the entire building knows my name.” “I’m yours, my body, my soul…. it’s nothing without you. Every last piece of me is yours for the taking.” The author threw some WTF moments in the story, which left me speechless. I wanted to scream, and cry and reach into my Kindle and throat punch some people. FYI be prepared you will not like the MOTHER, I WARN YOU!!!! The story will teach readers the true meaning of love, family and acceptance. You will love the characters and you’ll want to know more about them. This book has a lot of depth to it. There is a story behind the story that will tug at your heart and completely have you invested. This story is one you don’t want to pass up on.

Review by Jen Hagen Ivy has spent the last 9 months prior to her upcoming college graduation studying abroad in Italy. She needed to get away from her controlling wealthy and prominent parents and her berating sister. She also needed a chance to escape her life that she had essentially made for herself; one that included a lot of one-night stands regardless if the other party was in a relationship. Nothing stood in her way of taking what she wanted. Drinking was another escape route to hide her hurt and she drank a lot. Drinking and one-night stands seemed to go hand-in-hand. Ivy ran from all this has returned a new person. My new motto? Be who you are and own that shit – because only with true self-acceptance comes peace and joy. No more self loathing. Phoenix and Ivy meet at a party. Phoenix is shy, yet confident. Phoenix is a true gentleman and even though there are sparks flying between these two, he never takes it to the next level even though Ivy drank way too much (oops…I guess that part of her life didn’t change). Phoenix tucks Ivy into bed and sleeps on the couch. Phoenix is only in town for the weekend as he is attending a bachelor party of his friend, but yet he still wants to take Ivy out on a date. Phoenix is a romantic at heart and takes her on the most romantic date…swoon. It’s hard to believe that I just met him the other night. Having him here next to me feels as natural as breathing. Phoenix and Ivy begin a phone relationship with many states separating them physically. They can talk for hours at night and develop a wonderful relationship not based on sex (since they have yet to perform that task). Ivy is fulfilling all the duties of maid of honor for her sister when the story takes an interesting turn. Prior to this I was just happily reading and now it’s BAM! things just went from happy to what the heck just happened? I can’t breathe with the weight of this reality crushing down on my chest. My mind blanks, my insides twist, and my stomach bottoms out as I slam into the Earth’s surface from my walk in the clouds. An unbelievable twist that makes the story oh-so-good!! The author has delivered angst in the form of repulsion, betrayal, and heartbreak. This is a recipe for deliciousness in my cookbook. Don’t be scared though, the end product is a masterpiece. This was told all from Ivy’s point of view except for the last chapter which was told from Phoenix and just the little bit that he gave of himself lets us know that their story is far from over. But I know it’s only a matter of time before the demons I’m leaving behind catch up to me, even though Ivy doesn’t deserve to be burdened with my bulls#*t. ARC provided for an honest review

I must initially admit that it took me a couple of pages before I actually gotten into this story. But when I finally did, my, the experience blew me away. The twists and turns of this story lie between pleasantly predictable to utterly unexpected. Made more enchanting by B.L. Berry’s meaningful characters and her moving writing prose, Love Nouveau took me into a journey of love, doubts, distance, and self-discovery. “It feels like I’ve known you a lifetime. And knowing you like I know you is to love you completely.” Ivy Phillips never did what she was expected to do. She always followed her heart more than her family’s expectations. But when she met a certain guy and clouded her usually-right heart, she didn’t know what else to do but to fall for him completely. Ivy was a free-spirit. She was refreshing and poignant and the same time. I loved the goodness she hid so well and the strength she showed in every situation she falls in. Her character was very real and I enjoyed learning with her in this story. Everything I feel for him is an extreme of passionate emotion. Hate. Love. There is no in between. Phoenix was a man who knew what he wanted. He was grounded, self-assured, and honest. So when he met Ivy and his soul immediately spoke of love and forever, he knew he just had to get the girl. I loved every speck of Phoenix. His mind was so sexy and his words were so moving and insightful. His charm was effortless and his character will quietly sneak into you and steal your heart. He’s a dreamy book boyfriend but it’s so possible that someone like him could be living next to you. I fall into this kiss… Fall into him… Fall for him. I really loved it that the connection between Ivy and Phoenix was slow yet utterly deep. It was sparked by attraction but it was made deeper by a bond, sort of like a friendship, rather than mere physical attraction. There wasn’t plenty of hot love scenes but there was definitely something about the series of simple words and gestures exchanged by the main characters that made their chemistry hot and passionate. The story actually started out as a typical one; easy, posing no threat of excessive heartbreaks with characters equally interesting and possessed corresponding degrees of brokenness. But as the story progresses, the plot thickens and before I knew it, I was being mind-fucked! I absolutely love Phoenix and Ivy. They were a couple bound by their souls and enflamed by a connection that could overcome distance and doubts. I can’t wait for the next one!

his is an awesome debut and such a sweet and emotional ride! You never know what to expect when you try out a new author, but B.L. Berry doesn’t disappoint. Ivy was funny, quirky, honest, and strong. She was completely relatable and not the normal shy virgin looking for her prince. She’s not perfect and accepts her flaws. She was definitely not without her frustrating moments and had some falls along the way, but showed a lot of growth. And then there was Phoenix…. Ahhhhh Phoenix (insert swooning here)… I’m just grinning thinking about him. I absolutely adored him. He did so many things that just made my heart melt. I loved the relationship between Ivy and Phoenix. Part of their relationship was long-distance, so we got a lot of fun emails, phone calls, and text that I loved. The long distance really gave them a chance to develop their relationship instead of it being centered only around sex. In addition to Phoenix and Ivy’s relationship there was also another fun relationship in this read. Ivy and Rachel. The crazy and loveable best friend used to be a staple in New Adult reads, but I’ve been missing them lately. I loved her and Ivy’s friendship. Everyone needs a Rachel in their life, especially Ivy with the horrendous family she was given. If there was such a thing as a “swoony” best friend it would be Rachel. Overall, this was a great read full of laughter, pain, and a few unpredictable twist! I recommend this read!

3.5 stars I hope there is a follow up book. A solid debut for author BL Berry. Characters were easy to love and hate as well as relate to or believe whether their actions were from the heart or because they had no heart. When Phoenix, the male m/c was first introduced to us the readers, I wasn't sure about his sensitivity, acute awareness of Ivy, that maybe he was too soft. As I continued to read, I fell more in love with him and enjoyed a book that finally had a guy who could be a gentleman as 3.5 stars I hope there is a follow up book. I also really enjoyed the fact that Berry did not use sex, specifically page after page of sex written in ridiculous detail, as the epicentre of her story. I think her goal was to really develop a story based around the growing and understanding of feelings the characters were discovering about themselves as well as each other. I really hope that there is another instalment to this story as Berry left me with some unanswered questions regarding Phoenix... there's a story just waiting to be told. I enjoyed the read and kept wanting to find out what happened next. D 3.5/5

Sometimes you just can't help but judge a book by it's cover. I mean, THIS cover is just so unique and gorgeous and refreshing all at the same time. Guess what, so is this story! Phoenix will undoubtedly go down in my book as one of the most remembered book boyfriends because of his charm. I don't even want to mention all the twists and turns that took place in the last quarter of this book. Why? Because I never saw them coming and I don't want to spoil anything. My best advice I can give when it comes to Love Nouveau...READ IT! And clear yourself an afternoon/evening/whatever because once you start you won't want to stop!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. As I was reading this book my feelings for it changed from beginning to end. At first I liked the characters and their free spirit kind of living. Then my thoughts went from admiring her for her strong self perseverance to kind of disliking her for being so weak minded. I loved Pheonix and even Sully had his moment. The more I read the more my like went to love. The shocker of a twist was excellent and welled played - NEVER would I have guessed it. And the last chapter changing POV was brilliant! I love to hate and can't wait until the next book. This was just an amazing read and I love that I found a new author to admire! Thanks for allowing me to read this.

I give Love Nouveau 4.5 stars!! I was in a major book slump and being a beta reader and a reviewer this is not a good position to be in. I was amazed to find out that this book is a debut novel from B.L. Berry because it is just so good. It kept my attention and made me want to read more, it had some unexpected plot twists and turns and the characters were definitely as flawed as real people are and not some perfect people dropped in from an alien planet. Phoenix and Ivy were likeable and you could feel the pain in their emotional responses. Can't wait to read more from B.L. Berry in the future. Ladies, you are going to fall in love with Phoenix, who is the heartbeat of this book! The dialogue is crazy awesome. This is not a predictable love story; it also encompasses the trials of human weakness & suffering that we all experience, sprinkled with discovery of self-worth after living in self-deprecation. Can’t wait to read more about Ivy and Phoenix. I think they’re story has just begun!

This book was impossible to put down. I'm *almost* mad at B.L. Berry for making me read it because it sort of emotionally destroyed me, in that way an incredibly crafted novel will. I related to Ivy in ways I can't explain, my heart ached for everything she went through - especially with her family. Phoenix really was an amazing book boyfriend and I completely fell for them both. I love angst and this book is jam packed with it! I cannot wait for more Ivy and Phoenix!
