This book is longer than most you will find published by Blushing Book authors, 237 pages and is mild in nature, it does contain mild erotica scenes that are "excerpts from the books being read by the ladies." This story has a cast of strong characters with mystery, suspense, a love story, an affair, greed, blackmail, kidnapping, being press-ganged into military service and great story overall. This story has a cast of strong characters with mystery, suspense, a love story, an affair, greed, blackmail, kidnapping, being press-ganged into military service and great story overall. It is a story of two ladies who are best friends and both share a love of reading. One is the daughter of the book store owner, Liberty Brown, and the other is her friend, Lady Charity Lansing. Nothing is wrong with reading, except what these ladies were reading, erotica based books that would have been censored by Regency standards. Also, during this time, not all women were literate. Charity becomes infatuated with the gardener's son, Michael Bell, who has studied to become an attorney and is going to London to work. His adventure is a large part of the story. Michael has feelings for Charity but knows that there is no way a Lady would have anything to do with a gardener's son. Dr. Robert Paterson, who by all standards is doing well and is highly respected, wants to marry a woman with a title to have more standing. He has set his sights on Lady Lansing, for the title she will offer him. While tending to the family gardener who has taken ill and her father, during his failing health, he sees the book that Charity is reading and will use that against her, going as far as blackmail. Upon her father's death bed, Lord Lansing made her promise to marry the Doctor, who he considered a good man, even though he is not titled. Robert, threatens to expose Charity for her reading material unless she was willing to accept his hand in marriage. Betrothal is made between Lady Lansing and Dr. Paterson, it is not a marriage of love. Please note this book had been published previously as "Guilty Pleasures" under the name of PJ Perryman. It is being re-released as Lady Charity And The Guilty Pleasures by Jill Jackson. It is the same book.
