    Rigor

Clear, published in 1970, includes 20 transcriptions of songs from Patrick Sky's first 3 (of 4) '60's albums. The 48 pages are padded by a couple of written introductory pieces and 8 medium-to-large photographs credited to David Gahr. The first piece, The Paradox of Patrick Sky (dated April 20, 1969), was written by Barry G. Kornfeld. He tells what it's like working with him, how good his songwriting is, etc. The second piece, written by the legendary Dave Van Ronk and Terri Thal is a short one Clear, published in 1970, includes 20 transcriptions of songs from Patrick Sky's first 3 (of 4) '60's albums. The second piece, written by the legendary Dave Van Ronk and Terri Thal is a short one on the back cover. Both pieces are humorous and worth a quick read. Happy Traum, whom many followers of 60's/70's folk should know, is credited as the "music editor". His transcriptions include brief, slightly-simplified fingerpicking patterns only for the intros of songs that feature fingerpicking. However, most songs are in typical chord/lyric format afterward. So if you're looking for full transcriptions of every single note, this isn't the book for you, but it could be a good start. Also worth noting is that the book doesn't mention capo positions, which Sky used a lot. Therefore some of the songs aren't transcribed in the album key(s) you may be used to hearing/seeing ("Separation Blues" immediately comes to mind). Onto the songs... PATRICK SKY (1965) ----------- Many a Mile Hangin' Round Love Will Endure Come With Me Love Nectar of God Separation Blues A HARVEST OF GENTLE CLANG (1966) ------------------------- A Girl I Once Did Own Keep on Walkin' Give to the Cause Need Somebody on Your Bond REALITY IS BAD ENOUGH (1968) -------------------- She's Up for Grabs Children's Song Silly Song Sometimes I Wonder I Don't Feel That's Real Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy Follow the Longhaired Lady The Loving Kind The Dance of Death Jimmy Clay TRIVIA (for the curious): - The included songs from Patrick Sky / A Harvest of Gentle Clang are the only ones he wrote himself from those albums. - "Modern Major General" is the only song not included from Reality Is Bad Enough. Its' exclusion probably stems from the fact that he didn't write it. - The cover image is the cover of his 1969 album, Photographs, though none of the songs from the album are transcribed within.
