    “Mental Rehearsal For Warriors: For Cops, Soldiers and Martial Artists” by Loren W. Christensen is an excellent guide to mental rehearsal, which some may think of as visualization. The practice has been proven by athletes of all levels as well as those in the warrior professions and practices that Christensen addresses in the title of the book. To put it simply, mental rehearsal works. I stated above that this is an excellent guide, because that is what it is. It is a guide book. It’s not a book “Mental Rehearsal For Warriors: For Cops, Soldiers and Martial Artists” by Loren W. Christensen is an excellent guide to mental rehearsal, which some may think of as visualization. The practice has been proven by athletes of all levels as well as those in the warrior professions and practices that Christensen addresses in the title of the book. To put it simply, mental rehearsal works. I stated above that this is an excellent guide, because that is what it is. It is a guide book. It’s not a book you read cover to cover for enjoyment or recreation. This is a “how to” book that guides you through various mental rehearsal exercises. I recommend you read it quickly from cover to cover to understand what the book contains, but then go back and use the guide to assist you with your mental rehearsal exercises and practice. When you are reading it cover to cover, you will notice a fair bit of repetition. Many exercises or drills start in a similar fashion, but then change once you are in the receptive state for the most effective mental rehearsal. I like this repetition because it makes the book easier to use when needed. It would be more difficult when wanting to do a specific drill and have to turn back to an earlier chapter for the first bit of instruction. The book begins with a primer on meditation, which Christensen wrote a companion book titled “Meditation For Warriors.” That book goes further into meditation techniques, and I really believe the pair of books compliment each other and can easily be used together. The book then instructs on various mental rehearsal exercises for different situations. Christensen encourages readers to adapt these exercises and drills to their own circumstances and needs. The thing I like the most about this book, and “Meditation For Warriors” is the simplicity and non-woo woo approach Christensen brings to the topics. As a retired police officer, practicality has always been foremost with much of Christensen’s training. This is no different. He presents simple, practical, and effective techniques on meditation and mental rehearsal. I highly recommend this book to all military, law enforcement, martial artists, and athletes for one very important reason. Mental rehearsal works! The exercises this book guides you through will increase your performance and enable you to excel in the tasks you perform. If you want to take your performance to a higher level, read this book and incorporate the drills into your training routine.

As a martial artist and a veteran or Afghanistan, I believe this guide is a wonderful tool to assist in trainings, preparing for the fight, and getting your head on right after.
