After moving into her Aunt Rosie’s small cottage on Siesta Key Beach, she was quickly adjusting to her new life. After finding a job at an insurance company, Angel became friends with the two owners, Sara Roberts and Brea Kinsley. Sara and Brea made it their mission to fix Angel up on a blind date with their very handsome and single friend Mason Myles. Afraid that her past would catch up with her, Angel lived a very private life. When she met the tall, dark, and handsome Dr. Mason Myles, she knew she wouldn’t be able to resist him. He swept her off her feet with his sexy, dimpled smile and charm. Living on the run from a very abusive boyfriend, Jim Davis, Angel lived in fear that Jim would somehow find her. After she revealed her abusive past and fears to Mason, Mason vowed to protect her. When Angel heard that Jim had been fired from his job as an L.A. Police Detective, she feared he would come and find her. Angel started noticing noises outside her bedroom window and lights in her house would mysteriously turn on and off. She started getting hang-up calls at work and would often see a dark SUV parked along her cul-de-sac road and around her workplace. Angel realized her worst fears had come true when she heard that Jim hadn’t been seen in two months. She knew he had found her and it was only a matter of time before he made his presence known. While driving to the store to get items to cook Mason a home-cooked meal, Angel was the victim of a hit-and-run accident on Midnight Pass Road and sustained life-threatening injuries. Mason’s father, Bruce, and Angel’s Uncle Raùl hired their own detectives to try to find Jim before he had a chance to strike again.

They guys feel it's not safe for her there and Mason insists that she stay at his house. When she realizes that she cannot hide from her ex she knows that she has to make a very difficult decision. Her feelings for Mason have deepened and she will do anything to keep him safe even if she hurts him as well as herself in the process. All Mason wants to do is love and protect Angel. She makes this hard when she risks herself to try and keep him safe. When they are apart and her ex gets to her and hurts her he is upset but is there for her no matter what. Will Angel be able to get past what was done to her and move on with Mason? My Opinion: I can't say enough about this book. Book 1 was amazing and I couldn't put it down and this one is no different. It was such an emotional book! It definitely had it's ups and downs. I didn't agree with some of Angel's decisions but understood her reasoning. there were definitely parts that made me cry. With the exception of the crazy ex I absolutely adore all of the male characters in this series. This was such a great book and a wonderful series. I definitely recommend reading. What makes this story such an outstanding read and a 5 star is the chemistry between the two main characters, along with the twists and turns the author gives you to make this one outstanding read. Abuse is never an easy thing to write about or deal with but when you have an author who gives her heart to a story like this author does you have one heck of a good read. Ms. Kennedy gives you a story where you can feel the pain of her characters not just one but all of them. She gives you just enough twists to keep the story interesting as she reels you in and keeps you hanging on her hook until you find you have read the whole book almost at one setting. This is a story you do not want to put down. Your heart breaks for the characters and you cheer them on to the finish line hoping everything works out for them. The author gives you scenes that almost make you cry as you are yelling at Mason to take Jim down. You will want to take Jim out yourself and shot him, the man is nuts but even as you do not like him the author gives you a story where you almost feel sorry for him. This book picks up where the last one left off. Angel has been in a car accident where her past lover has taken a stolen car and pushed her off the road. She is hurt it is a life and death for her as she wakes up to find ex Jim in the room with her. She can’t move, she has trouble breathing and knows he is going to kill her. Can Mason get to her in time to stop Jim and save her life? Mason hummm what is there not to like about this man, he is one hot doctor that will do anything to keep his love safe. He loves with his soul and all his heart, he is one tough alpha male who knows when to give space to those he loves. That is hard for anyone to do but Mason is one outstanding man who you will love. He is caring, giving, sure of his self, not afraid to show it as he gives his whole heart to Angel. Angel drives him crazy as she does her best to protect him and all those around her. He isn’t buying it and stands beside his women even if that means from afar. He will protect her with his life and it just might come to that…. Angel is a lovely lady who cares to much about those around her, she spends her life protect them as she is abused over and over again. She is on the run but decides to stop and make a stand, her main concern is keeping those she love safe. She is scared but she will not take anymore, this is not going to be her biggest fight but it will be a fight for her life. I love this series, the author bring so much pain, sorrow and love to it. She tells a wonderful story that will have you turning the pages. When you finish each one of her books you cannot wait to start the next one. You have to find out what happens with Mason, Angel and Jim the story will leave you heartbroken with a wonderful ending that will keep you wanting more. Brenda is a wonderful author I have come to love her writing style. She gives you a wonderful story with so much feeling, you feel the pain, love, sadness and happiness of each of her characters. You will come to love them and hate a few of them. What a wonderful family she gives you who stand beside each other and give so much. You are going to love her writing style. If you haven’t picked up the first of this series you really should you are going to love them.

(2.5 Stars) "Saving Angel," the second book in the Starting Over Trilogy left me feeling much as I did from reading the first book. In this installment, we find that Jim has located Angel in the hospital and continues his harassment of her. Mason is not about to allow this to happen and keeps watch over her as much as he, her family, his family and friends can. In addition to the trouble with Jim, the worm, Mason's ex-girlfriend, Julia has decided she is bound and determined to get him back by any means necessary. It seems she is just as demented as Jim. *****Spoiler Alert**** For those of you who are like me and do not like to read about rape and violence towards women, I should warn you that there is some of that here although it is not graphic. This is just one more thing Angel will have to recover from. How can someone so damaged by violence still emerge whole? Now, that is the real question isn't it? In the end, the writing got in the way of my enjoyment of this sequel and quite honestly, even though there is only one more book in the trilogy, I just cannot find an overwhelming desire to read it. Sorry Ms. Kennedy. Your plots are great but you just need to work on your style.

Angel not wanting anyone else to get hurt decides to handle it herself and leaves Mason. This is where I want to slap her as she causes more pain to him in doing this. She does come to realize that you just can't turn off loving someone and being afraid for them. Her ex makes another attempt on her life......leaving Mason trying to save her in time. This paves the way for the final book. This book has such a wonderful chemistry between Mason and Angel...they are so caring and loving towards one another all without having sex. The caring and humor between everyone in the book is really nice and lends a lot of depth to the story. I love how each one of these books did not cost an arm and leg and are a lengthy read. So looking forward to book 3.

When you are reading a book and all that you think about while your reading it is the bad review you are going to write when you finish it, you probably should have stopped reading it long before the finish. The conclusion of Jim came out of nowhere and the fate of Julie never talked about again. I think what I disliked most was that Angel supposedly comes from this controlling and abusive relationship and Mason is her savior and hero, yet he is as controlling as the last ... Constantly checking up on her, telling her what car she may buy, deciding when she is emotionally ready for a relationship. I saw the ending and cliffhanger coming from a mile away. After speeding through the previous book in this series, I ignored my reservations and hoped things would get better as the story and characters warmed up... I won't describe the plot in detail (you can read the summary in the description above). The latter After speeding through the previous book in this series, I ignored my reservations and hoped things would get better as the story and characters warmed up... I won't describe the plot in detail (you can read the summary in the description above). I'm just going to focus on my issues with this story: Firstly, this series desperately needs some sort of proof-reader/editor to sort out the clunky, robotic dialogue and grammatical/spelling errors ('you're' not 'your' and carat, not karat). The latter is inexcusable when you're expecting people to pay for a book. Perhaps also streamline some of the confusing, unecessarily descriptive paragraphs that interrupt the story, and the continued (very irritating) references to the "peaches and cinnamon" scent that Angel chooses to wear. Secondly, the story is inconsistent and as a result just completely unbelievable... Angel gets violently raped, but refuses the morning-after-pill because she's staunchly Catholic (that's the first time her religion has ever been alluded to in two books) and her faith forbids abortion (actually this pill isn't abortion, rather the prevention of conception - infact, research suggests it won't actually affect a pregnancy if conception has already occured.. but hey, let's not split hairs). Angel doesn't even think about it, she just outright refuses without discussion or further explanation. But that's her choice, and not my issue here... My issue is that she then spends the following 100 pages desperately attempting to seduce Mason into bed with her... She buys lace lingerie and walks around the house in it, provocatively applies lotion while bending over and even informs him she is going commando while at a concert... I was under the impression that sex-before-marriage was also something that was frowned upon by the Church? Oh, and she buys condoms.. isn't contraception also forbidden? Surely if you're religious enough to not even consider preventing pregnancy after a violent rape, you're also religious enough to not sin by engaging in sex before marriage?!? It's not just that, the inconsistencies continue throughout the entire book.. for example, Angel is still immobile while wearing a full leg cast and using crutches, yet manages to get a pair of cowboy boots on?? I'd also be interested to know how she managed to successfully self-propel a wheelchair while wearing a full leg and arm cast? I'd have thought that by using one arm only, you'd just go round in circles?! They're only small things and it might sound petty, but they all add up to just make the story completely and utterly unbelievable.. I feel like I'm reading fanfiction rather than a book and can't help but look for the next mistake! Thirdly, the characters and their (lack of) development and depth: I thought I was warming to Angel as a character. However, I just completely lost all respect/understanding for her when she started giggling and flirting with Mason less than 24 hours after the rape. Then there was the childish scene at the end of the book when she's looking for a new car and she likes the yellow Camaro.. However, Mason won't let her buy the car she wants (despite the fact she's the one paying for it!) and instead belittles her opinion in front of the salesman and forces her to buy an SUV instead. She responds like a petulant teenager by childishly"puckering her bottom lip out" and "stomping her feet on the ground". That to me feels ever-so-slightly abusive which is slightly ironic because isn't that what she's spent two books running away from?!? And then there's the fact that whenever they go out for a meal, he selects her food because he feels she gets "overwhelmed with the menu selection" - what is this 1890!?. This behaviour is completely out of character as she is otherwise described as a headstrong, confident, self-assured woman. For me, the entire Angel/Mason relationship was just completely soured with examples like this.. I found myself hating both Angel for not standing up for herself and Mason for being a controlling, manipulative jerk. And then there's the medical stuff.. 1) The moment we find out Mason is turning 29.. meaning that he successfully completed college (4 years), medical school (4 years) and residency (at least 3 years) to become a senior ER doctor who then goes on to acquire his own private practice in what, 10 years? Right..... 2) Brea's pregnancy - we're told she can no longer fit into her pre-pregnancy clothes at 16 weeks. Firstly, a bump doesn't start to even show until the 14th week, and yet only 2 weeks after this she's so massive ("like a whale") that she can't fit into any of her old clothes? Perhaps she should get screened for triplets? Then there's the fact that the baby starts kicking (strong enough for Mason to feel it) around the 15th week... In a woman's first pregnancy, that generally doesn't happen until at least after the 25th week. These are simple facts that should be confirmed with basic research before including them in a published book! 3) When Angel gets her leg cast removed she immediately puts on heels. Yeah, forget about the stiffness, foot swelling and muscle wasting from weeks of compression and immobility... It'd be difficult to even walk barefoot let alone in 3-inch heels! I'm really sorry if this review seems unecessarily mean. I just hate it when I've spent both my precious time and money on a book that's been so hastily put together! I wish I'd trusted my gut at the beginning of the first book and just given up then. Even the gorgeous Floridian scenery wasn't enough to save this one...

Also, I was so upset that the first book ended right when it was the climax to the whole story. The next book was the same way, it just left you hanging. That was the purpose, so you couldn't wait to buy the next book, but it's pretty predictable, so I don't think I will buy the third book, it's a trilogy and I'm just sure that at the I liked the characters I chose the four star rating because it was a good story and kept your interest. I thought the first one was good and was looking forward to seeing what would happen in this sequel. In this book Angel's ex is a continuos problem and in the end he rapes her. I found this book very unrealistic. The book is rushed through the drama and not handled well. Also, the way Angel handles herself after the rape is sooo unrealistic. Anyone would be destroyed by this and she is not even slightly concerned. I could just not handle how the author wrot I am really disappointed in this book. Not quite as angry, now that I know it is part of a trilogy. I honestly think that she could have written it in one book. I still don't like the fact that you get to the end of the book and it just stops...The characters are good, the relationships are shaping, there is conflict and hopefully in the last book of the trilogy, there will be a resolution to the conflict.
