Having moved to an area with famous hiking trails I figured I might want to catch up with the topic. It’s been many years since I hiked regularly. This book is a very neat reminder. The author makes his case with chapters ‘Walking helps you Lose Weight’, ‘Walking Strengthens Your Heart’, ‘Walking reduces the risk of certain diseases’, ‘Walking Keeps your Body From and Toned’, ‘Walking Improves Mental Health’, ‘Walking helps your body synthesize vitamin D’, ‘Walking Makes you more Productive’, an Having moved to an area with famous hiking trails I figured I might want to catch up with the topic. While I did not expect it I appreciated the interesting medical information ( chapter ‘Walking Strengthens your Heart’). I did not know that walking lowers the level of bad cholesterol or LDL and increases the level of good cholesterol or HDL. That is certainly a neat “side effect”. I also liked that the author did not present tables with distances, times, and calorie counts but had information on how many calories walkers can expect to burn loosely strewn though the text. The author’s way of presenting his points in a matter-of-fact-tone is almost humorous: “… When you go hiking, you have no choice but to walk because this is the main purpose of hiking. You have no other option but to use your two feet to get to your destination. You are also forced to walk when you return to civilization….” A bit brief, then again did any of us want to read a 400 pages manual?

Walking to lose weight A bit simplistic, a few spelling errors but good information all in all. I think it's worth another go round. Walking to lose weight A bit simplistic, a few spelling errors but good information all in all. I think it's worth another go round.
